Welcome & How exciting! Missed in this thread....well lot's of pace & training talk, some of these guys have some amazing training talk going on, a little technical for me but still good stuff! No Dooneys yet though.

How's training this weekend everyone? I got 8 in Friday even with some snow pellets (didn't really turn into real snow though) but had to stop at 10 yesterday (Saturday), I've hurt my butt cheek somehow in the last week or so...I'm vaguely remembering backing into something and smashing my butt into something, I'm thinking the deep bruise is surfacing as I can't even sit without it hurting & then it makes my lower back ache. Don't think it was from running, crossing fingers anyway. So, my run yesterday turned into a run/walk, which was fine & now plan to take a couple days off hoping it heals.

Welcome! I tend to lurk on other threads, so I've seen you around and I'm excited that you'll be joining us for the weekend!

No Dooneys yet ... hopefully soon. I'm hoping we get an awesome pattern, though!

I had a successful long run of 20 miles. It was in the mid 50's and only a 20% chance of rain... Well it rained for the last 10 miles or so. Saw some very cool clouds as the system moved in. The rolling/wavey type which are really rare.
What is dooneys?

Hope you feel better. Training going well this week. Just starting to be fully recovered from my early October marathon. Had/Have...

Thursday - 11 miles w/ 8 at Tempo (1:37)
Friday - 7 miles (1:09)
Saturday - 8 miles (1:14)
Sunday - 16 miles (2:22)
Monday - 8 miles (1:19)
Tuesday - 7.25 miles (1:06)

Just glad the wind has finally subsided, been like 3 weeks since we have had a stretch of days without 30+ mph winds. Now instead it's 15 degrees with ice/snow on the ground... Oh winter training...

@LSUlakes Dooney's are purses that my wife/daughter have to have!!! :P Last year's below...

Dooneys are purses/bags - they make special designs for the races weekends usually. Awesome on the 20!

I have a shopping need, and rather than blindly buy whatever is cheapest, I figured I'd ask the experts here if they have any favorites...

My sister gets shin splints sometimes, and it was recommended that she try compression sleeves to help with the pain (it was also recommended that she change her running form a bit, but that's been harder). Does anyone have a favorite brand/style of compression calf sleeves that they highly recommend?

We may just end up buying whatever's cheap, but if there's a particular brand that people really love, I'd think about paying a little more.

I have Zensah calf sleeves and they work great for me, I had a bad "shin splint" pain & they helped & have worn them for full & half marathons. I'm not having to wear them now as I changed shoe sizes & added arch supports. I bought mine on Amazon as pairs, they sell as singles but figure it's better to have both just in case.

I wear Triumph ISO for long or slow runs (up to 16 miles), Ride 8 for Tempo (up to 13 miles), and Kinvara for Speed/just below Tempo (up to 10.25 miles). My races (including my marathons) are done in my Kinvara.

I train in Brooks launch. I love them. As mentioned before I have raced everything up to and including halves in a Saucony A5 flat and they are great. I bought a pair of kinvaras hoping to use for speed work and the marathon, but after 18 miles (3 6-mile runs) I had to retire them because I got a blister on back of foot. Never happened with other shoes. Tying with a heel/lace lock wouldn't help. I really wanted to like the kinvaras because they are comfortable, but blisters are no fun.

Zensah as well. Although I've never had shin splints, so I can't speak to them being helpful. I only wear them post races.

That's too bad. Is there an equivalent Brooks speed shoe to the Kinvara? Possibly the Pure Cadence?

As far as training goes, I upped my game again this weekend and was able to manage 18 miles yesterday in 3:02:27. I actually went out last night and could still walk which made me feel good. ;) I certainly felt and it and I'm feeling it now, but its manageable and I have felt worse. How I feel after is a concern as well as getting through 26 miles since we are doing the CC challenge. I want to enjoy the cruise and of course be able to do the 5K.

Does anyone else find it tough to find more places to run on these long runs? I want to stay somewhat close to home in case anything ever happened but I am running out of neighborhoods, and some streets I'm doing 2 or 3 times. It gets boring!

For calf sleeves, I love Zensah & CEP Compression. If you're looking for compression socks, my favorites are CEP Compression & 2XU because they provide even compression over the entire lower leg, and the foot portion of the socks are padded, which I love for longer runs.

I would also recommend wearing compression gear after a long run. I frequently wear compression sleeves under my work pants after a hard run or leg workout. The sleeves are convenient for this because you can still wear dress shoes.
