Marathon Weekend 2016

I was enjoying the talking into Dopey, but don't do this one @Keels. I would not want to do one even if Disney put on on.

Could you see the advertising for the Disney Ultra. Run TWICE thru 4 parks, 2 water parks, ESPN, Disney Springs. The runners start will begin at the MK with rope drop. The finish will also be on Main Street as the kiss goodnight is playing. That better be 1 heck of a finishers medal :lmao::lmao:

Oh, @FFigawi is going to have to pick on someone else for an Ultra. That's the most definite "Oh Hell No!!" in my book.

I just got done volunteering at the first Milwaukee running festival full marathon. About 3500 runners. I saw two marathon weekend runners, and a ton of Chicago marathon runners. I was at about mile 18. A kenyan guy won the whole thing but I don't know his official time. It was a nice experience maybe a future event for me.

Training check! How did everyone's October go? Can you believe we are only 2 months away?!?!
Much better in October - 155 miles and still building toward Dopey mileage.

Not sure what my average time/mile was, but probably just north of 9 minutes/mile. That is starting to slip as I mix in slower runs on purpose given my desire to run the half and full at a slower pace to fully enjoy the races.

Also, it is actually harder to run more slowly. We all have a pace at which we run with the least amount of effort, and my planned Disney pace is slower than that. Seems like it would make those runs easier (running slower), but it actually makes them harder. Sigh...

Oh I get to play as I actually kept track October - 118 miles. Not as much as you all but I'm happy with it as I've had foot/knee/shin issues I'm working through.
Don't keep track of pace or time, but long runs ave. 10:30-11/miles.
2 months to build up, time is flying! Hope everyone is getting there training in for the most part!

50.35 miles for me
Not sure what my total and average times were, but I'm going to go with I spent a lot of time running and I'm pretty slow.

Seriously ... I caught a few minutes of the NYC marathon this morning and these people were finishing faster than I think I could do a half marathon.

135 miles for me, plus 3 Saturdays of refereeing 3 U14 soccer games, which I consider the equivalent of a 10k. So adding that in would give me an equivalent 153 miles for the month. I don't track training times beyond noting what I ran that day. Today we did 16 miles at an 8:39 pace. T

The biggest change for me is the last couple of months I've been training with a runner who will be running the marathon with me (I'm doing the Goofy). We are well-matched for pace and running together we run a little faster than we would alone. In the past I wouldn't have done the 16 anything faster than 9 minute miles. Now we are doing sub-9's for these longer runs easily. I'm running a half marathon on the 15th then hitting the high mileage marathon training.

One of my close friends finished in 3:14! For a while, she was pacing at a 3:05 finish. She's like Superwoman!

I'm kinda in the same boat. I've been doing maintenance mileage, but I've also been avoiding anything that could result in injury and jeopardize my C2C with W&D. I'm doing 16.2 that day (Jingle Jungle 5k + W&D) and I'm going to use that to springboard me into high mileage marathon training.

This is all still such a learning process to me, so W&D is about finishing and getting a feel for a WDW run. DLH was easy for me to acclimate to because I'm used to "area" runs - through neighborhoods, commercial areas, etc., more than I am through the parks.

I'm also working to make the timing work so my last three big runs (19, 20, 21) will be here in Florida so I can be prepared for the weather.

October
Mileage: 108 mi (should have been 119, but yesterday's 11 mile run was performed today :guilty:)
Time: 16 hours 5 minutes
Avg Pace: 8:57

Although, I'm not sure I'm allowed to post here given that I am not participating in the WDW marathon weekend. Star Wars Dark Side Challenge will be my first rD event.

I don't have this option, so I plan to wear an extra layer of clothing to create the same effect.

This! :thumbsup2 Except Im not doing the 5K. With January coming quickly and snow probably on the horizon soon, I really want to start seeing what I actually can do and up my mileage, but the C2C medal was my first goal and don't want to mess that up now. So, once I get back from the W&D trip, then I have 8 weekends to start getting serious. :scared1:

In general I don't follow any specific plans for training for the 1/2s I've done. If anyone has any training advice for going from 13.1 to 26.2 in 8 weeks Id love to hear it.

I can help you develop an idea if you'd like.

What is your plan for the W&D half compared to your other recent half-marathons (i.e. Treating it as a training run or a race)?
For training for the W&D half, what have you been doing lately?
What is your goal for the marathon? Time specific or to finish?
If your goal is mainly to finish and not time, but do you believe is a reasonable time for you to finish?
Are you doing any other runs with the marathon, or the marathon as a stand-alone?
How many days a week can you train?
How much time can you devote on each day?
Do you have access to an electronic device that captures lap pace, or something that captures average pace for the entire distance?
What is your running style (run/walk or continuous run)?

With these answers, we could develop an idea as to how you would want to approach the jump from 13.1 to 26.2.

Ok, lets see...

W&D I will be running like my last 2 halves. I have joked that now its a training run for the full, since I've signed up for that, but it's still the run I had planned. I cant think of anything specific I would do different to make it one or the other.

I usually do 2, 5 mile runs during the week and a longer run on the weekend. Yesterday I did 10.2, last week 13.1, and obviously next week 13.1 too.

Basically I would like to finish in good enough shape to enjoy the cruise after, but if I could break 6 hours Id be thrilled. At this point I expect I will run at least the first half and then some, then do a lot of walking for the 2nd half. But again, I'm not really sure until I actually try this out. I know I can do 1/2 in 2:10. I actually did it in 2:03 last week but that's without crowds, bathroom break, pictures, etc...

Just the marathon then Castaway Cay 5K

I usually run Tues, Thurs then either Sat or Sun. Other days I do the elliptical.

Week days I do 5 in under 50 minutes, then weekends I should have more time to spend out on longer runs. Im thinking 4, 5, 6 hours blocks at a time may be tough, but knowing its only 8 weekends I'm going to have to find the time.

I have a pedometer on my phone that gives me my minutes per mile pace.

So far, never doing more than 13.1 I run for the most part, but will throw in a little walking. For example last week during my 13.1 I walked maybe 1/2 mile at about mile 9 while I had a gel shot. I do expect more walking for the full though.

So it's November 1st is everyone adding those Christmas songs to their playlists! Lol
