Marathon Weekend 2016

I had my POT race today. I ended up running it despite the foot injury. I just had to, it would have bothered me to miss it. The first 4 miles were painful but once my body warmed up the pain wasn't too bad. The course was VERY hilly. I would say it was 10 miles of hills and 3.1 of flat roads. So it slowed me down big time. I didn't improve my corral placement, which bums me out, but I am still glad I ran the race.

I got home and took off my shoes and socks and my foot is black and blue. So, I guess it is time to shut it down for a bit to try and finally fix my foot. It will mean I miss my October marathon, which bothers me a lot, but I can't imagine what kind of shape I would be in if I had run a full marathon today. And it is more important that I run Disney in January than this race in October so I just have to deal with it. My official time was 2:06:03. Considering the hilly course and a foot injury I didn't do to badly. But I will end up using my ToT race time as my POT.

For those of you that are US History buffs I am attaching a picture from the finish line. The race was in Plymouth, MA so that should be a clue. :D

Congrats on running the half! I hope your foot recovers soon. Good choice to skip the full in October.

Yikes, hope your foot recovers, that sounds painful.

Besides getting back into training after Disneyland races, I'm trying to come up with my running costumes. Anyone else planning outfits out already? I know it's early, but it's fun to come up with new ideas to try to turn into running outfits.

I'm going as the the Epcot Future World Minnie Mouse from the 1980's. I have the silver shirt with the specific Minnie ready to go. It has the original Epcot symbols on it and the word Epcot on the back. I'm adding a silver sparkly skirt, silver leggings, sparkly wristbands, and sparkly mouse ears to match. I'm basically going for a good Mile 3 picture in front of the golf ball. It's sentimental to my first Epcot visit as a kiddo with my family and taking pics with silver Minnie. You should check out the running costumes thread on the rundisney/competition/events forum...people have very awesome pics on there!

Anyone getting to sign up Boston this year? Registration opened yesterday and is still open for those with a BQ -20. I would like to say its a great accomplishment to BQ, but to do so by 20+ minutes below your required time is very impressive. If you have BQ'd :worship:

Oh, I could totally do that.

In my car. Or maybe on my bike if I try really hard.

That said, one of my best girlfriends is running her first full in December (St. Jude). She legit wins every half around here locally for our age group (we're both 34), she says no way will she come close to qualifying for Boston, but I wouldn't be shocked. Her last half she won back in March, she finished in 1:37 and she said it was one of the worst that she ran because she got bored. I hate her.

Nowhere near BQ-20, but am sitting on a BQ -3 with fingers crossed. I met a woman after a marathon I ran in March who missed the cutoff last year by 16 seconds. I just can't imagine running for 3-4 hours and missing by only 16 seconds. The look of determination on her face to not let that happen again was stunning.

I have one of those friends. He told me he was going to do just enough training to run a full under 2:40:00.

Hey @LSUlakes, that's almost you with those fast paces I see you having!!!
@Z-Knight I wish. The only race I have a BQ pace in is my 5k. I did have a good offseason so I'm hoping to have a big race season this year, but not anywhere near 7 min miles. All jokes aside, I look at it like this... I believe any person can achieve any goal they have as long as they are willing to put in the work to achieve it. It's a long term goal that I'm inching closer to, I just have to keep working hard to get there. One day at a time.

Very well said. I took up this crazy sport three years ago when my kids' school had a 5k fundraiser. I distinctly remember the sweat pouring down my face around the halfway point and being sore as heck afterwards, limping to the car. Three years and 6 marathons later, I'm still in shock that it's come this far. You're absolutely correct, it's been a heck of a lot of hard work and just as much a mental struggle as a physical one.

That is inspiring, and why I love running! Hard work and commitment equals results.

A couple marathon questions - how does everyone carry their phone so that it's easily accessible for character photos on the course? I normally use my armband on runs (which would be a pain) or my water backpack, but I don't think I'll be wearing that at Disney. I've seen flipbelts mentioned somewhere. Also - are there ever any photopass photographers along the course to get photos of characters onto our memory maker? :)

I don't carry my phone personally but if I was going to I would go with a SPIbelt. I really can't answer about the photopass photographers. I haven't done a Disney race in a few years at this point and don't stop for pictures.

I put my camera in my fitlectic belt, it has 2 pockets, when I'm not holding it.

Photopass photographers are NOT on course. Marathonfoto photographers are, they are not Disney so are not part of Memory maker. You can purchase pictures from them after the race as downloads or prints. Character stops have cast members who will use your camera to take photos along side the marathonfoto person. Be aware some don't have a marathonfoto person at them, so I would always run with your own camera/phone to take pictures and not rely on Marathonfoto.

I carried my iPhone 6+ In my hand during the 10k last year.

They have photographers but they are not Disney photographers they are a company called marathonfoto so you can't get them on memory maker.

I am not getting any runDisney emails. My friends have been getting them, but I haven't gotten a single one, not even in my junk mail. Any ideas why?

I have w Fitletic belt with a pocket that holds my phone very well. I also have used a terry cloth wrist-sweat band to hold my phone near my hand so I can get to it quickly for photos while doing runDisney races.

So, sometimes when I need a distraction I decide to hunt for random information.
Let's start with the 5K ...

I didn't do Marathon Weekend last year, but I did Princess, and at first glance I don't see any differences.

Next, the 10K...

There goes my hope that they would bring the 10K into DHS :(

Nothing else posted yet. These were certified at the end of August (same time as Wine & Dine). I assume Marathon course will be certified closer to the date.

I'm hoping something is posted soon because I'm very interested in seeing what changes will be made for the full.
