We will be there Jan 7-14 staying at POFQ. Bringing the DW, DD and the inlaws for some babysitting during the race/recovery.
Question about the Expo.
We are planning on flying in on Wed. morning arriving around 10ish Florida time. So thinking 11ish check in at the Contemporary BLT. If we grab lunch and do a couple Fast pass rides in the Magic Kingdom, how much time should we allow for our family (or just my Dad & I who are running) to head over to the Expo for packet pickup?
If you are renting a car I would just go by ESPN on the way to BLT. If you don't have a car I think FFigawi's estimate of 30-45 minutes for packet pickup is reasonable. However, the last time we took the expo bus from the Contemporary it left from the Convention Area not the normal resort bus stops. Given that the bus not leave immediately and that you might want to look at some of the race merchandise. I would budget 1.5 hours for round trip time to walk to the bus, catch it, do the expo stuff and get back. It could be faster than that, but there is a fair amount of stuff out of your control.
We are planning on doing Universal on Monday if anyone has tips on that. From what I've been reading, it seems the best way for us to get from POFQ to Universal is by renting a car. Does anyone have experience with that?
We (me, son and daughter) are coming in on Thursday, staying at POFQ, and leaving Tuesday. I'm doing Goofy and my two (adult) kids are doing the half. We also have a friend staying at POFQ who will be running the full with me. This past year I did the full and came in on Saturday, arriving in Orlando at 2:00 and getting to the Expo around 4:00. It all worked out, but I found the timing nerve wracking and I was terrified of something going wrong and missing packet pickup. This time I'm leaving a day to go to the Expo so we can be relaxed about it.

thanks for the advice, everyone! I should have mentioned we are flying in (from Massachusetts). Looks like a cab is likely the best option. It's a VERY easy drive, even if you haven't driven in Orlando before.
It's only about 10 miles and you can either take I-4 directly or I can give you direction via back roads (Turkey Lake Road). I went to high school directly across the street from Jurassic Park/where Harry Potter is now, so I'm extremely familiar with the area!
That said - if you don't want to bother with a car, I just did a fare estimate on Uber. It looks like it's $13-17 each way, which is way cheaper than the cost of renting a car AND paying $16 or whatever it is to park. Just another option!
I have a question hoping someone can help answer. The trip was going to be with the whole family, but now it is going to be a solo trip as we are returning to Disney in April for my daughters' dance performance. But originally my daughters were going to run the Mikey Mile. Now that they are not going can I pick up their t-shirts, bids with out their being there? We were joking about having them run a mile at our local track to "earn" the shirts, so hopefully I can pick them up when I get my stuff.
Hi, All,
While looking for resort information, I came upon this thread earlier this evening--74 pages and 3+ hours later...wow, incredibly helpful insight and advice. Thanks.

I assume that would also apply for the 5k? My DS10 is running with me and I'll probably try to pickup his packet. If they are running the Mickey Mile, they are 13 or under and are considered a minor in which you will be able to pick up their stuff even without them being present. My wife and I did so this past year (our oldest ran the mile) and all we ever had to give them with their signed waivers, which ONLY you can sign off for them.
This should probably go in dining, but I like you guys.
If you had to choose between Chef Mickey's and Tony's Town Square for pre-race dinner for your family including toddler, which would you pick? It will be first sit down meal of our trip. We will be at MK day before race and CM is by our hotel.
I'm not in need of mega-carb load...but my little tyke likes noodles/mac n cheese. We will likely hit up multiple character meals during rest of trip. Should I save CM for a brunch?
