Marathon Weekend 2016

Did everyone (like Keels) get their "I'm training for the..." shirts yet?

Got my shirt Wednesday afternoon.

You can fly from Austin, TX to WDW? Do you still change in Houston? All available flights for us change in Houston and after our latest experience (dodging the floods) we're looking for other options.

AUS (Austin) to MCO (Orlando) is a direct flight with JetBlue. I don't know about other carriers, SW doesn't have tickets up yet for January

I can definitely understand that thought process as well, for me the fun comes in trying to better myself but I don't get hung up on the fact that it may not happen every race either, if I hit my goal time then AWESOME if I don't then it just wasn't meant to be that day and ill try again next time. im strictly middle of the pack as well...as my times show and I am ok with that I run for me and to better myself not necessarily to beat others

Yup got mine Monday and took it out for its maiden voyage on my Wednesday run and promptly got caught in a rainstorm :scared:

along this same line anyone have any idea what the time to corral breakdown might look like? IE what times it will take to get what corral?

There is no set time-to-X corral. It will vary year-to-year based on the make up of runners' estimated times. Are you looking for Marathon, Half, etc? Best bet is to do a image search of the past two or three years worth of corrals and try to get an approximation to which corral you'll land.

For example, below are the 2014 & 2015 Half corrals. The times will slightly differ but you can roughly see where you SHOULD be placed based on your time.

awesome Ive got 3 halfs scheduled between now and then so hopefully I can nab that sub 2 hour PR im hoping for, although one of them is a trail race so it probably wont be that one LOL. Im not sure how much of a difference that will make over my current 2:04 PR but I really want to get under 2 this year

You can do it. If you have reached 2:04 you can get under 2:00 by October. Good training, the right race and you will kill it!

Yeah I knew there wasn't an exact formula was just more looking for a guesstimate of where I might land, I am looking specifically at the Marathon, but ill see if I can find the breakdown of past years just for and idea, Im not really to concerned about it, I know whatever happens ill be in the corral im supposed to be in just wanted kind of idea of where it might be

Thanks for the support, I have my next race a week from today and it is a pretty flat course so that is in my favor unfortunately my training leading up to this one hasn't been great so im not putting to much pressure on myself I'm going to stick with the 2 hour pace group as long as I can and see what happens I really have my sights set on my August race, its a race ive run before and though there are some course changes this year its still pretty flat and its a night race too which I like, ill be knee deep in marathon training at that point also so I think it will line up well for me ....here's hoping anyway LOL

If it helps, I submitted a half time of 1:56 (estimated a 4:05 finish time for the full) and I was placed in corral G this year. I know I was only a few bibs shy of corral F.

That does help and that its kind of where I figured I would be at, Thank You

I had one of those amazing runs today. Was scheduled to run 10 but felt so good that I decided to got to 13.1. Ran it in only 8 minutes more than my race time 2 months ago, but ran effortlessly with a low heart rate and no walk breaks. This is what running was like for me in my 20s and 30s, but it is so rare for me to run this effortlessly now.

Sometimes running is just amazing!

Congrats! I just love those runs. Love, love, love those runs.

I submitted a 1:50 half for the 2015 marathon and just barely made it into the E corral. One thing to keep in mind is that the corrals get larger the further you go back. I was surprised how close I was to the absolute start of the race in the E corral. The corrals ahead of me ranged in size from small to tiny. And I remember that I could still hear the fireworks for the later corrals starting after I had run thru the MK and past the Polynesian. So, even in the F and G corrals, it might sound like you are well back but you aren't really.

That is a good plan. Sounds like we are about the same pace. I followed a very similar plan at my last race two weekends ago. I went out with the 2 hour pace group and held in with them until mile 7 and then left the group. I finished in a 1:56, I was very excited. It was a huge PR for me. I was pretty nervous to go with the pace group but it really worked out. Good luck, I am sure you can get that sub 2 hour.

I just wanted to say hi. I am officially signed up for the marathon. I thought it would be a while before I got to run another Disney race but it looks like I will be there in January and I am happy about it, obviously. Some names look familiar from last year's ToT thread, like PrincessV, who I understand will be running her first marathon at WDW. :cheer2::cheer2:

I am glad to be part of this group and I wish all the first time marathoners all the luck in the world. It's an awesome feeling finishing that first marathon finish line.

How do you deal with the heat? For a PR give me a cold run any day but in the heat - hot summer heat? I would struggle big time, but then I am from cold weather of Michigan. If you are from hot weather I am sure it will just be another race. Good luck!

Thanks for this info! DH needs a half, and we live in Texas. Down here in the Valley, races are rarely chip-timed, so Disney wouldn't accept his time from the one he did here last time for corral placement.

I don't believe the race has to be chip-timed. Disney's website says this:

Proof of time must be provided from a certified race reflecting results after January 1, 2014 and must be one of the below listed distances.

I don't think "certified" even means "USATF-certified". I think it just means a real race with published results, not a self-timed run.

I'm with you on that - it was in the high 70s here in NY when I went out for my run this morning and I felt like I was going to die! I'm so impressed at people who can run for a PR in the heat.

It just takes practice and getting used to being out in it. When you don't have much other choice, you get out there and suffer for a while at first before it becomes tolerable. It's never all that enjoyable, but you learn to make the most of it. Plus, it helps when you then go run in a cooler climate. After training in the Qatar heat a few summers ago (lows in the mid-90s), I went and ran the Dublin marathon where my heartrate at race pace was 10-20 BPM lower than in Doha. That sure makes a PR easy to get.

Wooo Hoooo for Dublin being cold... I'm banking on this for my first marathon in October! Not so good to be going from January Irish weather to Florida if it ends up being hot! we've got almost a week there before the 5k to climatise ourselves at least...
