Marathon Weekend 2016

The shoe thing really is a personal thing everyone runs differently so that will cause wear on your shoes differently the general rule that gets tossed around is anywhere from 250-500 miles, but really if you notice something hurting after a run that didn't used to hurt it may be time invest in new shoes, many people actually have a couple pairs that they rotate to help make them last longer wich is something I think I may start doing....I actually read somewhere that it can take 24 hours for your shoe cushioning to return to its normal state after a run...so if you run everyday its good to have two pairs that you switch back and forth but of course it really all comes down to you and what works for you. When it comes to purchasing you really need to go to a running specialty store that does a fitting process to get the right shoe for you, I highly recommend Road Runner Sports if its avaible to you not only do they do an awesome fitting process they have a 60 day return policy on shoes so if you pick something out in store but then find out on your long run a week later that they didn't work for you take em back and get something different .....Not many stores have that option

I am having a little bit of a boring hump day here at work guys lol. But I have a run planned for tonight so I am thinking about all of these races!

What is everyone's opinions on when to replace shoes? I know 300 miles is thrown around a lot. I am probably somewhere around 250 on my current ones. My old pair(s) were fine for shorter race training but I switched sizes when I did longer races to avoid losing the toenails I am very much attached to! I have mizuno wave inspire that I got when I started feeling slight shin splints when I went past 6 miles, for more support. I like the shoes but of course they are heavier. So first, I am considering buying a 2nd pair to rotate into training so I have 2 options. And second, I was wondering if I should try a little less support now that I am in better shape for distance?
everyone has very good opinions on the matter but it's going to basically be how hard you are on your shoes and type of shoe. I would agree that you should get fitted by a specialty run store but also get advice on running form. You don't want to be a real bad heel striker or over strider. Foot position also makes a big difference in how your body handles the impact of the road. I ran with my toes facing out and didn't realize the strain it was putting on my ankles and knees. All things to consider when buying shoes in my opinion.

My first race ever as well and the start of a WDW Marathon Weekend addiction. I am glad that Champion has improved their material since that race. That shirt has the nice feel and moisture retention of a wool sweater. Naturally, it was perfect for running.
I still bring it to each race weekend as a night shirt. :P Part of me is miffed that they'd slap "in training" on an old design and charge $37 for it. It's insulting to imply our memory is that short! I can only hope the new material does it justice in a way the older tech fabric never could.

Does anyone know the best way to get from ESPN packet pick up to Hollywood studios? Do I need to Pit stop at AOA? I want to pick up our packet, run the kids races and then head over to the studios. We're staying at POR, so I don't want to go back there first. Also does anyone know when the kids dashes are over? I know they start at 11.
Thanks all!

Bus to Yacht/Beach and then walk to the Studios??

Ok, first I admit to not being very technical.... I am having trouble finding the Traing for Goofy challenge on the Facebook page... Or should I look somewhere else for it?

... And in keeping with the shoe discussion... I notice that sometimes my shoes are pretty worn before they even start to hurt, so I give them a visual check periodically as well as the change with pain protocol(!)

Yeah I still have my 2012 Half tech shirt (it was my first rD event and half as well). I love the newer material though. Doesn't seem as scratchy.

As far as shoes goes, as others have stated it is a real personal thing plus a lot of different factors (type of terrain, weight, material of shoes, etc). I'm over 200 pounds so my shoes generally reach 200 - 250. MAYBE 300. I only started tracking my mileage on them last year so the numbers for me may vary. But a good rule of thumb is if the shoes start to hurt your feet, knees, and or hips, they've probably reached their running use.

.... Oh and any idea if I could pick up the training for Goofy shirt at Disney now??
Or are they only available online?

Can you really walk from there? It looks pretty far on a map. Boardwalk looks closer but even that looks pretty far...
Yes, you're right that Boardwalk would be a little closer. Or even Swan & Dolphin. It's a nice walk though, maybe 10-15 minutes?

You can also take a Friendship boat but I almost always walk instead because it's faster.

I believe it's a 15-20 minute walk... Been a while since we've done it but it's nice. So is the boat ride!

Thanks for the advice guys, but yes I already have a local running store I am loyal to where I have been fitted and analyzed and all that jazz. Just considering a lighter option for short distance training.

It is finally starting to warm up here - by that I mean mid 50's o_O so I know as soon as I walk in that store and see all the new merchandise for summer runs I'm going to spend a small fortune. So it goes.

Yes you can walk it and there's always the boats too (but it's probably faster to walk)
It's probably about 3/4 to 1 mile and if you're training to run a half, full, or challenge that's not going to be pretty far for much longer :rolleyes1

Yeah the BW is a little closer, from there probably 10 min since from the BC it took me about 15. The boats are a convenient option if you aren't in a rush or one is pulling up right when you are by the dock. But man the docking procedure and stopping at all 3 resorts takes forever sometimes! I usually walk also.

The Boardwalk is closest, dont walk around the Boardwalk, from the Center Plaza area cut through the bathrooms by the arcade and go through the Luna Pool area and youll see the walking path behind it,DHS to the left.

I read somewhere I can't remember that if you are running they give discounts on resort rates. Does anyone know anything about that?
