Marathon Weekend 2016

It just occurred to me what would be really cool is if the character Dopey was out for meet and greets that Monday more than usual (which DH feels isn't nearly enough-Dopey's his most favorite character). Then DH could spend Monday getting his picture taken with Dopey wherever he sees him. Is Dopey/Goofy more available than usual that Monday?
Not sure about Monday, but they had Dopey out in the finish area after every race this year, along with the race mascot. So it was Dopey/Pluto after the 5K, Dopey/Minnie after the 10K, etc.

They still have the links up from the passholder page - so you can get in and spend all that time filling out the form, only to be told it is full. That would be horrible!

Where do we find the pass holder page to register?
NM-google is my friend.

Looks like a the dopey, 5K, and 10K say early registrations full. Does this mean that they will have availability the first regular sign up day?

IDK... I thought the half was gone in a few hours. Way down the road, when Goofy was nowhere near full, rD pulled some of the Goofy slots and separated them to add spots for the half and full individually - that reopened the half, which then quickly sold out again.

yeah I think Im confusing the half for the full and/or goofy ... I know the full and goofy lasted a long time

Who's with me----Dopey 2018!! Dopey 2018!!! Dopey 2018!!! (too soon?!!!)

Im In!!!!

Keels--I agree with you that it makes no sense to do away with Dopey but look at what happened with some of the other popular races. Some are gone and may not come back.
I'm glad I did Dopey and if it does go away, I would have kicked myself for not trying it.
I completely agree with you and others that it is a big commitment (time, training, and wallet) but if it's still around in 2018, there's a good chance I will do it again.

Count me in! The medals in 2018 should be so awesome! For now though I am focusing on 2016 and hoping my figures and WiFi are fast enough on the 28th! :)

It is not to soon to think about Dopey 2018. That was my plan when I signed up for my first Goofy this past January.

I told myself I would ease off the amount of races I would run next season but it seems I've thrown that plan out the window. In the last month I've registered for one race basically every week (Wine and Dine,Disney full,Space Coast full and about 10 minutes ago the Miami Beach Halloween half)and I still plan to sign up for 5 more over the next couple of months which would put me at one more event that I did last year, what are the signs of an addict?

Registered me and my daughter for the half. Several years back, I opted for the Goofy the year I had a baby. While "I did it", opted to be more gentle in getting back into the swing of things. :-)

Question--5K and 10K are listed as "early registration" being full. What is the scoop on those. I have another daughter wanting to participate. But I don't know what the chances of being successful on regular registration day or whether she should just do the kids mile. Thoughts? Anyone? TIA!

Sidebar--when did the registrations explode like this? My last RunDisney event was 2007 and it wasn't anything like this with races filling up the same day registration opened.

I did the Space Coast half so long ago. Love the course.

Not to tempt you with more--but did you see the Inaugural Cocoa Beach Half Marathon? The medal is an I Dream of Jeannie bottle. (not an actual bottle)

It's the month before Space Coast.

Smaller races so less pre-order spots available. If you're ready to go right at noon I'm sure you'll be fine.
ETA: to expand on that, ~7500 spots go to Dopey runners, so there are ~5000 spots for 5K- and 10K-only runners. And the 10Ks are VERY popular and seem to sell out first for every Disney race weekend.

The I Dream of Jeannie bottle medal is tempting.

My dh and I ran the inaugural Sarasota Music Half Marathon last Feb and it was really fun. beautiful course with a lot of entertainment along the way. We already signed up for next year.

With the rumors about Dopey going away, this might be the last chance to be officially "Dopey."

This is just me speaking, but I think the odds of Disney doing away with the Dopey are the same as Texas doing away with oil.

With the Dopey selling out in minutes and the premium people pay in addition to having stay the extra time at the resorts, I just don't see Disney ending it. Disney never says "nah, we just don't need that extra money."

Just my $0.02.

Weren't folks doing it unofficially before? With all the events still there, why would they cancel a medal that folks would pay for?

And to think just a few years ago Disney had to offer up free park admission on Monday to anyone wearing a finisher's medal from the full just to get it to sell out.

Yep!

They will go FAST - be online, window open, ready to roll by 11:55am and start refreshing and you should be fine.

I feel like it started more or less with the 2014 races. I was able to get into 2012 Princess 5K in late January. Yes, a month out from the race. I registered for 2013 PHM late in the day that it opened, but it was still open for days, at least, maybe weeks or months after. But now? Forget it. More and more folks are getting into running (yay!) and word of Disney's races has gotten out, making registration far more competitive. I frankly feel like I've accomplished more when I get registered than when I cross the finish these days, lol!

ITA! And I wouldn't be surprised to see a 10K + Half January challenge in the future, since so many are doing it unofficially now.
