OK, people. I need you to talk me out of Goofy. Like, seriously - be honest. I was just planning to do the full, but now the siren's call of Goofy won't leave me alone!
How do people find the backdoor link? I saw there was one posted on the Avengers thread that went live before noon.
You mean this?

I'm pretty sure that's the right one, but I'll be for sure closer to AP/DVC registration.
You're probably in the wrong place to be talked OUT of an extra race haha! If you're thinking about it you've practical signed up already![]()

Ugh. I know. I was planning to just do the marathon since I've never done a full and I'm doing the two challenges after that ... but the bling! And the challenge! And sure, why can't I do this! is just starting to seep into my thoughts.
I know for me and doing my first full I only wanna focus on that for the first one, im sure ill step up to Goofy/Dopey and some point for now I want to conquer this distance first and not have to worry about anything else (though im doing the 5k but my training calls for a 2 or 3 mile run around that time anyway to stay loose for the race)

Is there anyway you could fit a full marathon into your training plan between now and then so that it wouldn't be your first? I guess it depends on what level you feel you are at now. I'm training now for the Dublin marathon in October.
The bling.. it's all about the bling!
It's really hard because of the weather here in Texas from, oh, today on out. I'm doing a baby/beginners triathlon in July, and then halfs in August, September and November. I guess I can look for one in October, but I'll be well into full training at that point based on the plan I'm using that combines DLH, W&D and the WDW Full.
I'd hate to pay for Goofy and have to defer like I did for Tink - which I was NO WAY ready for, BTW.
I have three weeks to definitively make up my mind, but I know it's probably best if I just go for the full alone. It's right after the holidays (and NYE), and I like to eat poorly and imbibe too much during those, so to have to really cut it back for the challenge would make me sad for sure.
Ugh! I'm going to go back-and-forth on this until ... heck, I don't know. Hopefully they will both stay open for a while for me to get further into training to make a decision!!
Are you posting about your training anywhere? I'd be interested to follow along if you are![]()
I would say that it depends on how well you plan to prepare, because you have plenty of time to train for both and you are not new to running. If you can prepare for a sub 6 hour marathon then adding the half is just about adding extra miles on back to back training days. Being tired after the half won't cost you a finish for the marathon. It's really hard because of the weather here in Texas from, oh, today on out. As always, the training is tougher than the actual races.
I just checked my training logs from my 2014 Goofy and I maxed out with an 8 miler on Saturday and a 24 miler on Sunday, but I was running 6 days/week the last 3 months so the Saturday mileage didn't have to climb too high. You could easily do the same running 4 or 5 days/week. My plan for the Dopey in 2016 has me maxed at 10 miles on Saturday and 24 on Sunday, but I might pull back when the time comes - depends on how I feel. So, I just used the McMillan Calculator for my marathon time based on my first half marathon (that I was under trained for) and it puts me at 5:47. So, just BARELY sub 6 hours.
In the near month since that race, I've not run a distance longer than 3 miles - I've been focusing more on overall conditioning and strength training before the DLH Training Plan starts, BUT ... I have noticed a slow, but steady improvement in my times for 3 miles. So, as far as training is going ... I feel like I'm finally putting myself on the right track - and that's the ONLY reason I'm entertaining Goofy at this point.
Looking at the Galloway plan for Goofy wasn't super helpful - what would you suggest be the breakdown for back-to-back mileage days? Like, if my full plan has me running 13 miles on Saturday, should I shoot for 7.5 on Friday?
I know I've said it before, but the other reason I'm thinking about this is that I have the time and nothing stopping me from training. I mean, other than making meals and doing the dishes and other housewifey stuff.
(If you're playing along at home, I'm back to 60% Goofy, 40% Marathon Only).
