Marathon training Thread for the week of 7/19-7/25

:bday: LAWalz23 :cake: !!!

Hope everyone is doing well - me, it appears I'm getting a little sick---seems I've caught myself a cold (I want to give it back!!). Started not feeling well (sinuses) yesterday at work, then my throat started feeling yucky last night. I'm skipping the plans I had for tonight in order to rest---still want to do the 6.2 miles tomorrow if at all possible. Will wait and see.

If I don't get on tomorrow---have a great weekend everyone!

No walk for me today. I actually slept in and panicked when I woke up at 7:10!! We were actually supposed to be on our way to the hospital for an appointment for my mom at 7, but when I didn't show up with her breakfast she figured I had just collapsed!! Anyway, bumped the appointment to 9:30, and mom felt well enough to go to lunch after so that was nice. So...today was an official day off but I will take a LONG walk tomorrow. I promise!!::yes::

OH and just in case there is any question for any of you....stay away from Sonic. Those mini banana splits are EVIL!! At least they are small!!

:bday: to LAWalz! PIzza sounds pretty good to me!! Hope you have a great day!

Meme- swimming is good, but I tend to just float around and don't think I can count what I do as exercise!! I'm usually just used as a prop for one of the kids when I'm in the water.

tw1nsmom- good fo ryou on the fast walk. I hope that the kids' school issues are resolved for you soon. That has to take a lot of energy and cause a lot of frustration!

Karen, awesome news on the blood results!! WAY TO GO! I love reading your descriptons of your walks...puts me right there. Mine would only say "it was hot. It was hot. It was hot." ::yes::
Particularly since I walk the same path over and over and over.

Debbie- what grade/subject do you teach?

Decaff-thank you for the kind words. We're just getting through this as best we can. My mom is incredibly upbeat...She used to be this way 11 years ago...before her 1st cancer diagnosis, and then she fell into this awful bitterness. I really don't know how to explain all of this. ANyway, she's been more like her old self over these last few weeks than she had been for a long time...so if this makes sense...I lost my mom 11 years ago, but now I have her back for a little while and I'm just cherishing what time there is. It's truly bittersweet and I am joyous that I will have these good memories to hang on to.

Cheryl, hope your walk was good today!!

ibounce- I understand the heat...it's awful here!! I think it's awesome you are doing the 10K! Will you go up the contemporary hill? I can't wait to hear all about it!!

Monica- hope you feel better and don't overdo it tomorrow!!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Beth- here's my description for today's walk-

IT'S HOT!!!!!!

We had temps of 103 today! I walked 1 mile this morning and decided to hold up on the second one until tonite when it cools down. On the bright side..... At least it's not humid here!

I have one small question please....

WHERE HAS ASHLEY BEEN?!?!?!? I miss her posts!::yes::

:cake: :bday: :cake: to LAWalz! It's just been a party kind of a week hasn't it!

Bump the birthday wishes to LAWalz & missing Ashley:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Hope friday has been a great day for everyone. It poured here and still more forecasted:mad: So no walk for me unless you count the mall shopping;)

I did hit the video store to rent 50 first dates and then watched it while riding my stat. bike (still don't have tm:( )I thought it was a cute movie, nothing spectacular but rode for an hour without noticing. Yahoo:bounce: and then did some ab work. Who knows the best ab exercises??????

Hope to walk tomorrow - have a :sunny: weekend!

but YOU all are doing fabulously with keeping in touch

and

first let me wish LAWalz a very belated HAPPY B DAY - pizza - mmm- that sounded like a good plan B - hope it was good day!

Okay I have been gone long enough and way too much for me to detail notes to all my BELOVED friends and WISH pals but let me tell you I have been thinking about each of you and I won't EVEN comment on or to those who have had days of slipping off the healthy food lists - yes- we have all been there :teeth:

I talked to ohMom and her DD's on phone this evening - Molli happily reports that she walked the full length of the Ocean City MD boardwalk (4.5 miles) said she has eaten well and enjoyed some rather delicious donuts herself (really hot, fresh ones) and plans on more of those in the morning. They are having a good time, but she said it was cool there (70), first couple of days nice but last couple has been overcast. They will be home next Tuesday.

My news is that I haven't exercised all week thinking my knee would be in tip top shape - well I started out for a short walk this afternoon and I could tell that I needed to turn back. so, it's a dr appt for me to see what is going on and then I can re-enter exercise when I find out if I am making it worse or not.

BUT - the good news is - I really have been good counting my WW points and I have at least gone down a couple of pounds - so that is keeping me positive at the moment. I have been wearing my bracelet and I have one that really fits me now and that is why I think of all of you so much!

Ashley said that she was moving home - wonder if she is in that transition ?

Where's MelanieC again? - When she appears she needs to pm me her info so I can send her a surprise!

ibouncetoo - WTG on just going and doing it- a 10K will be perfect in October and you will be an ol' pro in January!

I hope those who weren't feeling so great are better and those who are feeling great, still are!

Karen - Friday in the lunch room there were some "leftover" krispy kremes from the day before - if I knew you really liked the stale ones I would have grabbed them for ya :teeth: (You know I was amazed that there were ANY left over - there are about 50 people total in the office and trust me not many healthy eaters at all) Thank goodness KK just doesn't call my name - now a nice bag of m & m's would though! ::yes::

tw1nsmom - I am sooooo glad that you recognize that the "inside of a jail" is not a place to check out - that would just be way too hard for us to stay in touch with you there :teeth: And just how many laps around the cell would make a really good walk anyway?

Okay - I am off - make it a good Sunday everyone - exercise, healthy eating and drink lots of h20, too!

Bev

I got in a 34 minute walk this morning. I had planned for a full hour but I just couldn't take the heat. I've just been sweltering here the last couple of days.

Grammy- take care of that knee and let us know what the doc says. Good for you on the points and losing a couple of lbs. I got on and logged my breakfast this AM for the first time in quite awhile. I need to get back on track wtih that...

Meme- good for you on the bike ride!! Cool to watch an entire movie while you did that. That is a great idea!

Karen, we've certainly got the humidity you are missing up there!! The air just felt heavy this morning...

That's it from me today. Hope everyone has a great Sunday!

I have been missing WISH more than you know! We are in the process of selling our home and moving out of state so my life/exercise/eating has been up and down...but this past week I have gotten with the program and am focusing on the goal of walking....
I also went to a American Stroke Association meeting and am really considering volunteering to walk for them...I'm hoping I can walk "for them" but walk "with" the WISH walkers...I like the idea of helping out a charity and getting healthier in the process. Anyone else signed up to do that? It would also mean that we'd be staying at another hotel because of their deep discounts and they pay for my room just not my family's expenses.
But on the walking side...I walked 4 miles yesterday and today and will do it again tomorrow...the hardest part is my husband (who I need to be here to watch the kids) is at his new job out of state 5 days a week...so that means I really can only fit 3 days of walking in until we move. But I'm not giving up and letting go of all the excuses...I have about 40 pounds to lose between now and the marathon and I'm off to a new start...

CHEERING ALL OF YOU ON!!!! And Happy Birthday to the BIRTHDAY GALS!!! :)

Tara

GOOD MORNING, WISHERS!

Good for all of you making those food choices that I need to be making. Reading about your successes (Bev) and not so successes help me along.

I did my first "long" walk since the knee thing hit-3 miles yesterday. I did it in a good time, but I am NOT going to think about time right now, just getting fit for the long haul. I feel good, so I'm VERY happy about that! Today is a rest day. I'm really going to follow through on those, so I don't hurt myself again!

Tara, good for you for thinking of a charity. We (3 sisters and I) have thought about it, but haven't done anything about it, yet.

Beth, you keep walking, hun! You're doing great. Oh, and I teach grade one this year. (seem to be alternating 1 and 1/2) I've been thinking and doing plans this week. Gotta be prepared!

Bev, let us know what the doctor says, and in the meantime-ice or heat, whichever makes it feel better. Keep up the WW!

Belated :bday: greetings, LAWalz! Hope it went well for you.

Karen, you must be getting the heat that we aren't. ;) It WAS hot for a couple of days, (AC on for 2 days) but back to the cooler summer that we've been having again.

ibouncetoo, you can do the 10k, no problem. I like your idea of mall walking. I did that inadverently this week-took DD shopping!

Meme, great job on the bike. You go, girl!

Monica, I hope that you are feeling better.

decaff, I credit my 3 teenagers for some of my lost weight. It has been a bad couple of years, and walking helped to take some of that stress off. One time, I made the younger DS walk with me. He was not impressed, but it was dark, and I was MAD, so off we went together. Amazing how well I was able to "talk" while we walked. :p

Hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend!

Remember: Slow and steady finishes the race (and wins a Donald medal.)

Hi to all!

I've been really good about staying OP yesterday and today.

Yesterday I only walked about a mile before all my muscles started seizing up and cramping. I hadn't stretched enough and decided to stop instead of risking injury. Today I was careful to stretch really well and I was able to finish my 4.35 miles doing a little over 18 minutes per mile. It felt really good.

I'm spending today researching the IDEA and inclusion practices in preschool special education. Loads of fun:rolleyes: . I really love DS's teachers/therapists, but DH and I are probably going to have to switch schools. The administration has been promising more inclusion all year long and full inclusion for the next school year (DS has developmental delay in several areas with a mild social delay and DD is enrolled as a typically developing student receiving OT,PT). The inclusion this year was pathetic (maybe one student visiting the special ed. classroom for a half hour or a special ed student going into the preschool for the same amount of time). Spencer's IEP states that he is to be in an inclusion classroom, so this is just not acceptable. I found out on thursday that next year is going to be barely better than this year, so I called the county and requested an emergency committee meeting. It's tommorrow at 9am. So, I have until then to either, pick a new program (there are two openings in another program), decide to pay for both DD and DS to go to preschool (will be able to stay with therapists they know, but won't receive enough classroom services, the preschool is overcrowded, and will have to deal with the administration that I no longer trust), or file grievances against the school in hopes of forcing them to fully integrate in compliance with IDEA.

I don't really know why I'm bothering all of you with this. It probably seems like an obvious choice, and we will most likely be going with a new school. It's just that DD and DS love their teachers and part of me hopes that if I make all the right decisions and he's with all the right therapists that he will "catch up" by the time kindergarten starts next year. I know that may or may not be able to happen no matter what I do. If any ofyou have any experience in this area/would like to offer advice I would love to hear from you.

I'm going to try to stay OP and keep exercising this week, but if you don't hear from me for a couple days it's because I'm running around to meetings and new school appointments.

tw1nsmom, just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you as you make this very important decision. Parenting isn't easy at the best of times, and during difficult times, it is plain overwhelming. You are very fortunate to have an IEP at such an early stage. Where I teach, I have to fight to get anything done during grade one (and often it's not until grades 2 or 3, but based on my observations in first). Yes, with an inclusion classroom on the IEP, and it sounds like there isn't one in the current school, you may be looking at a change of schools. Good luck in making your decision!

Congrats on your walk. It's amazing to me when I feel good after exerting myself. ;) Good for you for remembering the stretching. That is something that I must remind myself everytime that I walk!

Take care!

Thank you to those who posted/realized I was missing...

I was at my friend's cabin (does it count as a cabin if I was staying in the "Left Wing"/Guest House? WHEW! I would love to have money someday, first I must finish college!) Anyway, so I was getting ready for that this week and working, and then i spent my weekend up there not worrying about ANYTHING. I did get a run in on Saturday morning before everybody woke up and i KAYAKED on Saturday afternoon. Now there is a really fun workout!

You all sound like you are doing tremendously. I skimmed through, so I'm sorry that I'm not going to reply to everything. Keep in mind that we do need our rest and every now and then we need our treats, even if they are Krispy Kremes. What better way to get a treat in?! Anyway, IMO they are good for the soul. :hyper:

As for me, I am going to go outside and soak up some of this sunshine. We don't get it often enough here in Minnesota and I need to seize every opportunity I have with it!

Keep it up!

Ashley:wave2:

Hi everyone!! Hope you're weekend is going well.

Still feeling under the weather, but woke up yesterday doing well, so off I went to meet Colette (good friend, and the one doing the 1/2 with me). Our goal was to do 6 miles - I was praying I'd be able to do 2 (wasn't sure how my breathing was going to be).

Well...........we surpassed our goals....and walked 7.5 miles!!!! And in 2hrs 10min, so that calculates to a 17.333 min mile!!!! WOOHOO!!!! I'm sooo psyched!!! This was the first time that I really believed that I could do this, and not be swept! And the route we took had 5 hills!!! And I'm only a little sore! I'm sooo happy!!

Didn't do anything else after lunch yesterday, and had a rough night last night (with sore throat). Haven't done much of anything today so that I can be ok to go to work tomorrow (hopefully and ugh).

Ok, that's it for me.....God bless you all for the motivation you give me.

for being HERE!!!!!

My sweet, adorable, bony, SKINNY ::yes:: DH is eating cheese crackers and I just had to leave the room cause I knew I was soooooooooooo close to caving!

I knew you would be here, so I came and read a minute and now it's okay, he is putting those away and is moving on to yogurt---that I can handle - I have already planned on yogurt and fruit for breakfast- so I can wait ;)

Thanks for listening - it was a close call, but I did so well today that I just didn't want to "blow-it" - whew - I may even wear my bracelet to bed :teeth:

Tara- hooray you are back - pm me with your wrist size or bracelet size (just tell me which) and your snail mail address so I can send you a little surprise :wave2:

Well, we went to the state soccer tourney and my girls tied a team from the big city. The other coach was talking to his team and I over heard him saying," They're from Northwest. They probabably don't even know how to play soccer up there. I wouldn't get too worried about them." Ha- ha!! We ran them all over the field and they ended up in a tie. We had 5 or 6 scoring opportunities and the ball hit the post or went just barely wide. My girls were pretty pumped. We go back down from Thurs. to Sunday. hope they continue to do well. We did some school shopping and went out to eat. I fell off plan but didn't clean my plate so I should be okay. Back to the run today.

Hey, Little miss mickey, I'm from Minnesota, too. I know the cabin thing. I have a couple of freind who have those fabulous 2nd homes. I just visit and enjoy. Hasn't the weather here been odd. Guatamala one day and far North the next. It was 47 at my house on Wed. am. Brrrrr!! It might have made the big change though, finally. Hope it isn't 90 in the cities next weekend. My girls will suffer!

Hope everyone walks a bit today!! I know it is Monday but you'll feel better .

Happy monday!!!!
