Marathon Training Thread for 9/4-9/11

Lots of good, up beat posts today ladies and gents! WTG !

I walked my 2 miles tonight in 37 minutes. I was a great cool evening for a walk- I love the way the weather is becoming don't you??

Tigerlily and MeMe- It's so good to so you posting! I've missed you both. Please continue to check in so we know where you are and how you're doing!

Mom & Grammy- You two make me wish my mom was a walker and lived near by so we could share things like this. You are both so lucky to ahve the relationship you do. I love to read when you both post back and forth to each other.

Beth- glad to hear all went well for you- now you just need to get htrough Ivan (Is that his name???) We'll be keeping you in our prayers. What did you end up doing wiht your mom the other day?

Jumping in real quick (does that count as a workout? :teeth: ) before I head to school. After the long walk on Saturday, I rested Sunday. Since Monday was a holiday, I was going to "rest" again  , but decided to walk 40 minutes anyhoooo. Did 2 miles at @ 15-16 m/m clip, and some warm-up, cool down, just a bit slower. Yesterday was the first day of school, but hit Curves when I dropped my DD at choir practice (why DO they DO that the first day of school?) and since I was finished before she was, went for a 25 minute walk when I picked her up.

It sounds like everyone is doing well. Take care, and stay focused. Remember: Just put one foot in front of the other. . . and soon you'll be walking out the door.

Slow and steady wins the race. . . . and the Donald medal!

I will be taking DH to doc Thursday and then on to his PT later. I plan to walk some while he is being tortured. I am a bit stiff today after my walk yesterday. I realize that I need more than I imagined. I am going to try to line up something more serious.

I am encouraged by your posts. Thanks for helping.

Did get a 30 minute bike ride on some hills today. I feel it in my legs tonight. Must be a good thing. Have been running from school to soccer games. Daughters are on 2 different teams but play on the same schedule so I watch the first half of one jump in the car pass DH on the road and watch the other daughters second half. It sounds crazy but it works. The girls notice if we are not there.
Am a bit miserable today! TOM and I broke out with poison ivy around both ankles after clearing brush in our back yard (We live in the wilds) . Love it here!
Tomorrow I get a good long run in. The girls are out of town at a game. I will have 3 hours to myself after school. Precious workout time! I used to sit and watch TV or eat. That is last on my list of things to do now. Hope all have a great week and weekend!! Keep moving!!!

Well I'm off to a great start with the Sept. 1000 min of exercise challenge. I'm at 488 min already and we just finished the first week of Sept. I have been busy the lats few days. I ended up being able to get in 30 min. of light weights on Mon. I have some Denise Austin tapes that i pulled out and I did the Get Fit Fast upper body and the abs for benginners, 10 min each and than I did a few more exercises from a magazine I have. Last night DD and I went for a bike ride, well at least we started together and then she stopped to play with a friend and I just kept going. The humidity is gone and it was a beautiful night and before you know it I had biked for an hour! Today was the only day this week I knew I would have time to get my long walk in for the week so I walked for a total of 2 hours and 10 min. I did a 5 min warmup and then I wanted to walk for 2 hours and clock the mileage and then I cooled down for 5 min. I was so happy after I drove my 2 hour course to see how far I had walked, I made it 8.8 miles in 2 hours! My legs are tired now after walking so long today and biking last night so tomorrow will be a rest day for me.

Grammy and ohMom Thanks for motivating me to keep moving on with eating better this month. I have journaled my eating in my little Minnie Mouse notebook for 3 days straight now. I'm definitely going to have to check into a palm, I'd been thinking about asking DH for one for Christmas, maybe I could get an early Christmas present this year ;) I'm still a little high on my points some days but definitel eating better than I did all summer. I think I am eating up too many points at breakfast and I need to get some more fresh veggies in the house to have to munch on along with the fruit.

Karen great job getting in the extra 1/2 mile. Your distances and times are getting better.

Beth I'm glad to see Frances missed you! Take advantage of those good days your Mom has!

Lily Good luck with getting your walks in while your DH is at the Dr an PT. I hope he is progressing well!

Debbie I hope all is going well with your first week back at school. Good job getting in those shorter stretches of exercise, it all adds up.

Becky I hope you feel better quickly! Don't itch that poison ivy and spread it. Isn't it great being healthy and switching from a eating TV watcher to getting in exercise whenever we can. Enjoy your alone time!

Keep up all the great work everyone! Keep moving!

Did anyone else realize that 4 months from tomorrow is the big day???

Cheryl

OMG Cheryl you are right!!!!! 4 MORE MONTHS! WOW!!!!!

I had such a wonderful day today- and then I came home a read all your posts and it made it even better!

As I was walking tonight I kind of analyzed where I am in my life right now in comparison to where I was in March of this year.Wow!!! It's amzing how differently a person can feel about herself in 5 short months.

Today I did something I haven't done in 24 years. I typed an cover letter and filled out an application to work at the local Disney Store. As I was getting dressed to go and deliver the application, I put on my nicest outfit- and it looked TERRIBLE!! It was, as it turns out, 3 sizes too big for me. I could barely fit into this same out fit at Easter this year. So- I went to the mall and to Lane Bryant and bought myself a nice CUTE shirt and pair of chocolate (hmmmm maybe I shouldn't have used that word to describe the color! ) brown bell bottom dress pants.... too cute.... in a size 18-20. Even the shirt I boughth was in that size! And ya know what else???? These were REGULAR pants... not the elastic waist kind of pants! They have a real zipper and buttons to close them! I went home, put my new clothes on and went back to the mall to deliver my job application. I am so proud of what I did. Isn't that dumb?!?!? But it is such s HUGE step for me. I haven't had the self confidence to put in a job application for 24 years! And I did it today. I am so over whelmed..... and thankful to all of you for helping me get to where I am right now. I KNOW I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for your support and encouragement and friendship. I will always remember this day. The day I felt better about myself again!

quickly - oh shoot i don't have time to read everyone's right now but I will later!!

i forgot to post yesterday that I walked (only no jogging) 3 miles in 44:30 -- i'm forgetting if we totally walk the 1/2 do we need to maintain 15 min or 16 min miles??

tigerlily -- great job working in your walk!!!

my gluts have been really sore when I try to walk, I may take today off. didn't get moving in time this morning to do my pilates. i have crammed each day this week with some commitment (another DUH!) but i'm already sensing that "I really need to do some activity today" cloud over my head!

PD to all for a great workout today!

56 miutes for me this morning! Not what I was doing in the Spring, but that's the most I've walked since 8/13. I'm determined to pass the hour mark this weekend.

Maybe this means I'm getting back on track? Or just that cooler weather has hit? ::yes::

Thanks for asking about my mom...we just went to the doctor the other day, but we were able to chat on the way back. She sleeps a great deal of the time now.

Have a great day everyone!
~~Beth:wave:

Way to go everyone!
I am proud to say that I got my walk in tonight. I did 45 minutes and about 2.4 miles. I don't know the exact distance because the person I asked about the outside track distance at his PT place really didn't seem firm with the response. DH's PT and Doc visit went well. We both make progress!

Made an exercise date for me and kept it. 80 minutes of running and walking. Only 4.0 miles but am going to give it another try tomorrow. Did you read what Karebear did? She is an amazing woman!! What an inspiration!!

Today we had a potluck at school and I was pretty good. I did have a piece of pie.
Really am looking forward to this weekend . My girls play 2 games about 200 miles away and all the women of our family are meeting there to go to a huge craft sale. They are staying over night and I am going to too. We will have a few beverages, good food and lots of laughs.

Hope all have a great weekend.
( someone tell me how to move my clippies around so they don't take up so much space in my signature_Thanks)

I did my 2 miles tonight in 36 minutes. It felt very good. It was a nice, cool evening to walk.

Beth- I do believe that does make you "officially " back on track! Good for you for walking! It really is way more fun to walk in the cooler weather. Please keep us updated on Mom.

Decaff- YUMMMMMMMM! PIE!!! I could go for some of that right now- but I think I'll pass this time :teeth: With my luck, it would addd 5 lkbs back on! Please don't EVER put "only" in front of that kind of mileage again! 4 miles is fantastic!! I'm impressed! WTG!

Tiger- good to hear you DH visit went well- and glad to hear that you are walking about again. Can't you hardly wait 'til we do 13.1 together in 4 MONTHS EXACTLY?!?!?!? By this time (in 4 months) we'll all be lazin' around by the pool, making memories with our feet propped and drinks in hands talking about how easy that half was!

Mom- Do you really have a pain in your "gluts"?!?!? We need to have a 16 minute mile for the marathon.

EVERYONE of YOU make me so proud to be your friend:teeth: I am so AMAZED at what this group is doing - Karen - I was cheering for you - did you hear me from Ohio ???? And everyone else, YOU are doing so darn well - I'm bringing a boat load of kleenex when we meet in person for those real-live hugs - I will be needing them (yes, yes, I will have enough for the rest of you misty-eyers, too).

Cheryl - an early Christmas present never hurt anyone - sure hope your DH thinks it is a good idea. I am sure Molli and her DH would give you some tips if you decide to e-bay for one. In the meantime, do you have excel on your computer? there is a handy-dandy counter that KathyTx created. If you pm her she would send to you or I am sure I have it somewhere that I would be happy to forward (goes for any other person who would want it too)

Has anyone tried the new "herb and garlic" spray butter (by I Can't Believe It's Butter)- it's my newest food find ::yes:: - I really like it

And last night DH and I splurged with a yummy dessert. Fresh fruit with an apple baked bar and ff cool whip - pretty tasty and healthy, low WW points to boot!

Well, I did 2 miles tmilling this AM, some floor exercises and tonight Curves. No time in the morning for exercising, except to pack my bag, going to see Ohmom and family overnight - quick trip - but we plan to walk 6.25 mi on Sat morning. Molli's speedy Gonzalez DN(darling neighbor) is joining us - so she/they will kick my butt - but hey I know my way around M's neighborhood, so I can get back there if I don't keep up and I am okay with that. Actually this will be good for me to "get the feel" of the faster pace. My knee is a bit touchy so I am hoping that the day off tomorrow will be good for it and I will be ready for our Sat morning walk.

Have a good day tomorrow and even better weekend everyone. - 4 months - boy - with the holidays to prepare for - it will be here before we know it - thank goodness I got you good WISH trainees to keep me focused!

I'm happy to report I walked 3.5 miles today. it was about an 18 min mile but the wind was terrbile and it sprinkled some, but I made it and feel great. yesterday I rode my bike for 60 min so today my legs felt achey when I began walking but that soon disappeared, I wasn't going to let it stop me. I hve to keep up with all of you;)

Good job everyone:Pinkbounc We're doing fantastic and only 4 months left, yikes:earseek:

Pm sent to you Karen - congratulations you made me cry:wave:

Hi Beth - glad to see you're managing some time for yourself.

Great job Cheryl:Pinkbounc

Wow decaff how doyou manage all those activites? to change your signature, delete some of the spaces between the clippies in your user profile. I want to know how to make the cheat free bear smaller, any clue?

Everyone have a great Friday:sunny:

Today was a rest day for me soI'm just stoppin by to say Hi  and see how all my friends are doing today and you all made me so proud of you again!

Go Karen, Go Karen, Go Karen Go :thewave: :cheer2: :cheer2: I am so very proud of you. You lost 3 sizes since Easter!! Again I am so proud of you. Congratulations for getting up the courage to apply for a job and at what better place than the Disney Store. I wish you the best of luck :wizard: in getting that job. Keep up all the great work. You are such a motivation.

Molli Your pace in your walk is right on for the marathon! Hopefully next week won't be so hectic for you!

Beth I'd say you're back on track! Gradually work back into those longer walks so you don't overdo it.

Lily I'm glad your DH's appointments went well! I hope they're not torturing hin too much at PT. Good job taking advantage of that time to get in your walk again.

decaff Have fun on your get away and at the craft sale! It sounds like a great way to spend a weekend! Good luck to your DDs with their soccer games.

Grammy I'm definitely going to have to try that spray butter. It sounds like it would be great on those veges I'm trying to eat more of again. I am so computer illiterate that I don't even know if we have excel so I'll have to ask DH, hopefully we do and then I could use that counter until i get a palm. It sounds like resting your knee tomorrow is a good idea so you can get in your long walk with Molli on Sat. Remember slow and steady ....... Have a good visit with Molli this weekend!

Meme great job on the biking and walking!

Tomorrow I'm off on a field trip with DD to "Indian Summer" I think it will be a fair amount of walking which will be good and I'll get to meet some of the new friends she is making at her new school.

Have a good Friday everyone! Keep moving!

Cheryl

Good Friday Morning Everyone,

Well, yesterday was supposed to be a rest day but since I didn't walk on Wednesday for more than 10 minutes I swapped my days. I was planning on a 45 minute walk with my DD in the stroller but then my DH and DS had to go and sign up for cubs. So we shortened it to a 20 minute (1 mile) walk and a 10 minute bike ride. Today is a stroll for a while. I hope to do that on my lunch hour.

Tomorrow though, Debbie and I and maybe MaryLiz are going to do an 8 mile. I'm going to try and convince them to do 2 and 1/2 hours and then see how far we manage to go. We're going to do a path through the park here so it should be flat and easier walking than those country roads.

Have a great day today and a wonderful weekend.:sunny:

Ok...so I do feel like I'm getting back on track. Trying to get my excercise going again and also need to get my food plan under control again. That's really been a struggle for me this Summer. I'm the cooker and with mom sick, I feel like I need to proved 3 "squares" for her just in case she will eat...so our motto has been never a day without mashed potatoes and garlic bread! Plus, when you are worrying about someone losing weight, etc., you don't want to be cutting everyone's calories, right? Needless to say I've put on just a few lbs, but I think I'm on my way to getting a handle on that again. Anyway, I'm taking my back on program oath right now....

That said, I'm a real butter kind of girl. I've never bought margarine in my life and although I really did try to like that spray stuff, I just can't go there. But as I was putting my tsp of butter on my cinnamon swirl bread, I was thinking about the garlic spray and I think I'll try that one. Maybe I can do that. Not on the cinnamon bread, mind you, but as much garlic butter as we make and go through...well....it could be significant. Of course another alternative is to give up the bread, right? ::yes:: Anyway, I thought it was funny when Grammy mentioned that this morning. Have a great trip, Grammy and a wonderful visit with your family.

Decaff- enjoy the weekend. Sounds like a great time to connect!

Karen, thanks for the PM...ditto back at 'cha.

Tigerlily, glad your hubby is making progress. I had wondered how he was doing and kudos to you for utilizing that time for your training!

Cheryl, sounds like the field trip will be great. Have fun!

Susan and Debbie- Just thought I'd tell you guys...we are homeschoolers and we're doing an intensive geography study this year. For the last 3 weeks we've studied Canada and tonight is our Canada finale party. Girls are excited and busily gluing fake maple leaves on a cardboard tree as we speak. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello to you guys and tell you how connected I feel to you from studying your country. We've also had a great time searching recipes online that are Canadian and I did want to ask....have you ever eaten seal flipper? We found several recipes for that and that is just not something I think I want to try and I can also picture the face on the butcher here at the Piggly Wiggly if I requested it. I can hear him....Ma'am, what is a seal flipper? You move away from cows, pigs and chickens here and they are totally lost!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: ANd finally, what is screech? There were several recipes that called for that?
We are having snowballs for dessert. You are supposed to use real snow, but we will use Mayfield's snow ice cream (Great and low WW points!) and then heat some real Canadian maple syrup to pour over. Should be yummy!!

Have a great day everyone! Sorry so long. OH and I did walk 1:06 today. Got that hour! :cheer2:

Have an awesome weekend everyone!
~~Beth:wave:
:flower1: :flower1: :flower1:

Seal flipper???:earseek: Yuck!! No I can honestly say that we've never had that. Screech on the other hand I've had some personal experience with. It's a type of liquor (we always refer to it as gut rot) It comes from Newfoundland. It's called Screech because that's what you do when you drink it straight.

I didn't know that there was a real place called the Piggly Wiggly. I always thought it was just the name of the store in "Driving Miss Daisy". When we go to Florida we always go to Winn-Dixie or the Super Wal-Mart.

The farthest north I've ever been in Canada is Timmins Ontario which isn't really all that far. I must say that I know all the states between here and Florida much better than anywhere in Canada. The only other province I've visited is Quebec (and I won't be going back there anytime soon.)

On a side note, in 8 weeks I'll be heading your way for my first trip "home". I'm counting down the days as I sticker my calendar with my training successes.

:sunny:

I'm not here to report my walking for the day yet, but instead I have a question for all of you.

Are any of you interested in planning our own little "mini meet" while we're down in Orlando in January?
According to Kamy there are official events scheduled for Saturday morning and Sunday evening. I was thinking we could maybe do something like the Wishes cruise on Saturday night. I think that would end early enough for us to get some good sleep the night before the half, or we could do something maybe Monday evening. Any Grand Gathering event would be open for vote. I think it would be fun for us (our families) to do something special together because we have been training together and are so close (or do you think that would be too snotty? I don't want to make anyone feel unwelcomed). Have you read about that Wishes Cruise they do? Capt. Hook and Peter Pan meet you at the Contemporary before you get on the boat- sounds fun.

Anyway- let's think about it and see if people are available. If we did one- what would you want to do??

Hi all!
I haven't walked for a couple of days, but I'm plannig on walking this afternoon while the kids are at preschool. I have, however, been doing pretty well with my eating choices.

Karen: I think a mini-meet would be great, and DD and DS are big Peter Pan fans so the cruise sounds like a good idea to us. If that doesn't work out, we (DH, DD, DS and I) would really be up for just about anything. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday we're not planning to go to the parks, but we will be going Monday through Thursday. So, for us, it would be better to have a meet outside of the parks over the weekend, or in (or out) of the parks the next week.

I received a couple of compliments yesterday. I haven't seen this particular set of parents at school for almost a year, and two of them said they almost didn't recognize me because I've lost so much weight. That certainly lifted my spirits for the day!

Happy Friday to all:Pinkbounc

I walked this am with another wish sis, we did 3.8. I might even do more later:) I'm so excited since it's still morning, I usually don't get out till late afternoon.

Wow Beth you home school too, how do you do it? seal flipper, yikes:scared1: don't think I'd go for that.

Karen I would love a mini-meet. I also think the wishes cruise sounds great. Right now we plan thurs-tues, with only mk on mon. Do you think sat nite would work? I really want to get enough rest. Do you know what time it runs?
Glad to see kamy is back up and running, can't wait to see the shirt design:)
