marathon training thread for 8/29-9/4

tara -- welcome!!!! love the attitude it's so you

karen -- do you mean the lower carb twist to your eating? i remember something of that nature for you?? i could be misremembering though

this morning I did get out and get my long done! whew! 6.5 miles in 1:27.30 i'm pleased with that - as long as I keep the pace as I add on the mileage that puts me at 3 hrs for the marathon. is anyone else doing jogging/walking intervals? I'm hoping to run one mile of every three, PM if you are thinking along that line too

big lunch at mexican rest. today. i was way hungry after a long walk/run and ate too many tortilla chips with guacamole! yum! but i journaled and counted and still have 6 pts for the day! not much but i'll be ok, maybe a few FP but i'll limit myself to only 5 if needed for a glass of wine tonight!

have a great friday:wave:

hi everyone! Welcome back Tara!

Back to school this week, kids come on Tuesday.:( I'm exhausted. Miss my run this morning. I woke up, but my legs were achy, so I took advantage of extra sleep time. Tomorrow I'm scheduled for a 14 mile run. It's a little scary--I'm not even sure where I will go.

Debbie: as I said, I'm beat too. The first few days can really wear you out.

Karen: If it is lower carb, I'm curious. I'm afrad of not having enough fuel for my runs, but know it would help me lose some pounds.

Molli: guacamole and wine--I like the way you use your points! ::yes::

Sundie: I am no fan of the treadmill either. I'm not worried about the cold, it's the lack of light that's the problem for me. Winter will be a challenge.

Susan: think of all the arm strength you're developing pushing that stroller! :duck: That's for your son! As the mom off an almost 9 yr old son, I know what you're dealing with!

Beth: stay safe and I'll continue to keep your mom in my prayers.

Monica: did you make it to Florida?? Let us know you're safe too!

Meme: the weather here is beautiful, you should have a great weekend? Where are you going?

decaff, Bev, Cheryl, Jackie and to everyone lurking:

I just have time for a quick post again. This morning I got in my long walk for the week. I didi my 5 min warmup and 5 min. cool down without counting them in my mileage and I walked (very little jogging today, maybe a total of 5 min. because I added another mile to my long walk this week) 7 miles in 1:43 so that is a little quicker than a 15 min/mile pace. I was happy with that because it is hot and very humid here today and it is TOM and that always seems to slow me down a little.

It sounds like everyone else is doing great!

Welcome back Tara!

Karen I'm so glad you're feeling better! It sounds like Patti is great!

Take care everyone, have a great Labor Day weekend!

D'oh

I got out on the bike path again today to do an endurance run/walk and discovered I had miscalculated the miles last time. I reported a while back doing a 12 mile walk in 2 hours 47 minutes-- well-- it turns out it was a 10 mile walk in 2 hours 47 minutes:o

This time I noticed that the mile markers start on "one", not zero. I interpreted the number to mean "you've completed mile x" but they really say "you've begun mile x". SOOOOO, when I got to mile marker number 6 and turned around, I figured my round trip was 12 miles!!!! Turns out it was 10. Oh well. The funny thing is that I was amazed at how easy it was to do 12 miles and even more amazed at my lightening fast time!!!!:o :o :o I guess that should have tipped me off!

So today I did 8 miles in 2 hours. That included some slow jogging.

I also experimented with taping my feet! I always get blisters on long walk/runs so I put large bandaids on the balls of my feet and taped them with cloth medical tape and it worked perfectly.

Keep moving everyone::yes::

Sundie

Sundie- taht was so clever of you to think of taping your feet like that! I'm glad it worked for you. But, can you tell me at about what mile you start to blister? I've gone as far as 7 miles with no blisters.... I'm just wondering if that will be my next hurdle to over come???

I did my 3 miles today in 55:18! Thta's pretty darn good for me. AND.... I did one more MAAAAAAARVELOUS thign tonight.

I registered for my FIRST EVER 10K!!!

It's on Oct. 3 here in Portland and is called the Mayor's Run. It runs along with the Portland Marathon that same day. I'm very excited and will be working hard the next 30 days so we can finish in record time for me. Can you believe I actually did that?!??!

Karen: Good for you! How exciting-- your first 10K. I should be looking for one in my area. As for the blisters, I usually start having trouble around 7 or 8 miles so I'm not sure the taping worked. If I can get through 10 miles without blisters then I will know for sure it works! The other thing that I have trouble with starting around 7 or 8 miles is lower back pain. I don't know what to do about that.

Morning-

Just got a 6 mile outdoor walk done - I wanted to do 8 but I really forgot to eat anything before I left and I needed a drink and my knee hurt, etc, etc, so I just did 6 - tried to tell myself to stop at home and get drink and move on but didn't happen :teeth:

Tara - So glad that you are back with us! You can do it! We will be watching your progress ::yes::

Sundie - I am at your pace (15 min mile) I want to do a little jogging but the physical therapist said "not yet" so I am trying to be good! My head says "jog a bit" and I feel like I am going so slow sometimes!

Karen - YOU GO GIRL - your confidence will be so up in January!

Beth- praying for everyone in FL - I am asking for guardian angels to protect you ::yes::

FYI - AnnieT is in WDW - she and DH (Alan) have been in FL this week- tried to get home to Boston area but couldn't get out. E-mail from her yesterday said it is very scary -

Keep up the good work -"fellow" trainees and have a good holiday weekend.

44 minutes for me today. I'm on an upward trend. ::yes:: I'm finding with so much time off over the summer that I'm having trouble jumping back to my hour plus walks! Anyway, my goal for tomorrow is 60+ minutes so hopefully I can make that happen....

Karen WTG on registering for the 10 K run! You are awesome! I am hoping to catch one this fall, but we'll see how that goes.

Our big fear here right now is Frances. After she jumps the penninsula of Florida and gets back over into the warm Gulf, she could strengthen again into a huricane and then really slam my area. In case you look at the map, I'm in the very top left corner of Florida. I could walk to Alabama in two directions, so picture me sitting up there in that corner! And we are smack dab in the middle of the projected path now. Looks like I may have weather issues with my walk next week!!

Have a great, safe, sunny day everyone!

Mmmmm. Quiet here, today. :teeth: Do you think that it is because of the holiday weekend? I suppose mine will be the last post! Does that make me a 'post killer'?

Susan and I went for a walk this morning. She asked how long, I said 6 or 7 miles. I clocked the route last night and didn't tell her that it was 7½! :earseek: We made okay time, and did well. I tried the Power Gel energy gel. Kind of like eating icing out of a pouch. At least it didn't taste gross!

After Susan left-she drove 50 km to get here, and 50 back-that's dedication!- I had a swim for a few minutes. Got the stick off (or is that the stink?)

While I did some kid driving, DD and DH loaded the van. 4½ hour trip tomorrow to take her for her first year of university. Everyone is ready for that. :)

Have a great holiday weekend, everyone!

Remember: Slow and steady wins the race. . . . and the Donald medal!

Just a quick pop-in to let you all know we did not get on a plane for WDW today!!!!!

We've re-routed to DISNEYLAND! I'll be heading over there Monday morning and returning on Thursday. I'm taking my pedometer to see just how many miles are put in on a Disney day.

Tomorrow is my long walk....I'll check in on the new thread.

Do we know where Monica is......????

Yes, Debbie and I walked 7 1/2 miles. That's a little over half way of the half marathon. I really feel quite good tonight too. A lot of the route was up and down hills too. It seems that her little town has a lot more hills than around here. I left here at 6:30 so that we wouldn't be walking in the humid heat but it was quite foggy so we didn't get to head out until 7:30. It's really nice that time of the morning.

Well, now I'm off to bed because tomorrow I have to work. The darling University kids will be checking in very early. Luckily tomorrow is a rest day and I will be resting at my desk for 10 or so hours.

Have a super Sunday everyone and we'll catch you on the holiday.!!

Karen - I couldn't believe it when I read your post. My buddy is from Portland and my neice and brother-in-law live in Portland. We may be there Oct. 23 for a wedding if all goes well. But my real excitment is that I also just registered for my first 10K 10minutes ago. I could not find a 5K that didn't conflict with soccer and other activities. This one is 45 miles away and should be gorgeous with the fall colors here. It is a friendly type run and walking is encouraged so I fingured I can handle it. It is Sept. 25th.

I am watching the weather channel and am so concerned for the people in the path. Blessing and best of luck to all!! We were in a hurricane type storm when we lived on the North Slope of Alaska. Dead of winter, 50+ below zero and 100+ winds. The wind meter broke at 100 mph. It was called the Mega Block and it lasted 2 days. We just hunkered down and made lots of cocoa and played games. It was amazing!!

Today I didn't get any walking done but I did landscaping instead. We built a new house last fall on 2.5 acres 7 miles out of town (very wilderness). I cleared brush and raked our yard getting ready to plant. I did get my front flower bed, cleaned out and planted with fall mums. Looks so good!! Tomorrow a long run and maybe a bike ride. Hope all have a great weekend!!

Great to see all these WISH WALKERS 'testing the waters' with a 10K this fall!

Great job everyone!
