marathon training thread for 8/29-9/4

You guys are going great guns! WEIGH to go! I can use the inspiration!

I'm feeling better, but tired. I spent yesterday at school, came home, made supper  , and then DS mentioned that he needed to do some 'back to schoo' shopping. Off we went, so my walking was mall walking yesterday. Today, I'm off early to school. The room is filthy! (except the floors and windows that the custodians cleaned.) I am hoping to walk when I get home. I'm in the September challenge, so I will need to keep track.

Tummy is fine. How about you, Karen?

Grammy, I can't do the 'no eating after 7' just yet, but I will try to cut back to nothing after 8:30. My grammy used to eat 2 arrowroot biscuits before bed with tea. I'd like to do that, but when I was in the store, they only had banana arrowroots. YUCK! I've been eating (and eating) digestive. I promise to limit myself to just two tonight. Hope your collar bone is feeling better today. You are an inspiration for me getting up early in the morning. I just haven't done it yet.

Well, I need to get off the computer if I'm going to get my school work done. Like a mom's work. . .it never is. sigh

I'll check in later, ladies. Have a great day!

Happy September Everyone!!!

I work at a University and the darlings start moving in this Sunday. It's already getting busy around here.

Last night was supposed to be a 25 minute stroll but I biked for 10 minutes and walked for 20. It doesn't seem like much when the other days I walk 45 minutes. However, my ankle is giving me a little bit of trouble so I think the biking was a better option.

My poor DD cried the whole time I was gone because she wanted to go for her walk with me. So, tonight we will be walking with the stroller.

I hope that everyone has a great day!!!:sunny:

Ugh I had a really tough time last night.

I did 6.2 miles (6.0 in 81 minutes + cool down). I've done this before, but last night I really had to push myself. Then, afterwards I was really sick; weak, shakey, nautious for about an hour. Later I had charlie horses in my calves and aches and pains all up and down my back and legs. I thought for sure I must be coming down with something, but today I feel fine.

I guess the lesson is: if the body says "no", listen to her!!!!!

Sundie

Just dropping by to say hi!! I'm so excited about all the training you all are accomplishing! What an ispiration!!

I hope those of you who are not feeling well and are struggling are better soon.

I've been taking time off from my training. Life has been pretty stressful and I didn't need the added guilt from missed trainings. BUT, that said, I'm really gearing up to get back on track soon. (Gee, does this seem like de ja vu?) Anyway, hopefully later this week I can get in some sort of walk.

For an update on my mom...she started hospice care on SAturday. Those hospice angels are truly a blessing. She's still up and around, so that is good, and they are helping us get her pain meds under control. Amazingly, two of her meds had been prescribed wrong, so that was a big issue. She had the fluid removed again yesterday from around her lung and is having some relief with that today, so that is good. Later I will take her and my 4 year old to storytime. ::yes::

Anyway, that's it from me. You girls (and guys) keep one foot in front of the other and I'll be chasing you at the marathon!

Hugs,
~~Beth

here's a bit o'inspiration I shared with my PM buddy group this morning, i think it's good for us in training too......

Never trade what you want for the moment for what you want most!!!

i'm taking a water break after my 3 miler today (36 mins); i'm still feeling it in my gluts so i'm not going to add mileage for a week or two. Friday is my long day. ::yes::

oh, water aerobics update -- got DD off to school and went to Y, walked up to counter and read the notice that the pool was closed all week for yearly maintainence :faint: ok i've got my swimsuit on under my clothes and flip-flops. guess i'll go back home. I did do the DA SFFZ (denise austin shrink female fat zone) for my strength training and then in the afternoon took a 30 min bike ride.

but then while cleaning out my freezer I had an attack of the Reese cups! :hyper:

so i'm dragging my feet but i'm joining Cheryl and mom in the SEPT GO GETTUM attitude:jumping1:

i'm very pleased to read that everyone is finding themselves in tune with their bodies and :listen: :listen: as well. If I calculated correctly there are just over 22 weeks until our event. Treat your bod well, it will thank you for it and return it's gratitude in a performance you'll be proud of. If you are injured or sick or just not up to it (seriously) then REST. My DH was big into weightlifting when we met, he always tells me that your fitness is based on what you do routinely, if you miss a day it's just a small piece of the pie (sorry couldn't resist the food metaphor)

:flower1: :flower1: :flower1: :flower1: Have a great day all!

Just have time to post quickly as I've spent all my computer time tonight on the cruise and resort board reading about the preparations the state of FL is makin for Hurricane Frances. I hope and pray everyone is kept safe and that this Hurricane miraculously turns out to sea!

I did get in a 65 min. walk/jog today. Slowly working min. long intervals of jogging in. I didn't check my mileage so I'm not sure what my pace was today but I felt like I was going pretty fast.
I did pretty good with my eating today. Grammy I did have some pop corn after 7 because we ate an early dinner tonight because DD had volleyball practice, so I still need to work harder on the not eating after 7 and I need to stick with this once and for all. I'm glad to see Molli joining us in our Sept. restart!

Karen How are you feeling? Better I hope!

Beth Thanks for stopping by and updating us on your Mom. Hospice caregivers sure are a special bunch aren't they! I am still keeping your family in my prayers. Where in FL do you live? Will you be affected by Frances at all? It looks like most of the state will in some way. Again I pray that you and all the people in FL are kept safe!

Monica and Jackie how about your trips to WDW and the Orlando area? Is Frances affecting your plans? Stay safe!

Cheryl

I did get a 38 min /2 mile walk in tonight. I t was just to beautiful to stay inside. I did't make the 1000 min. August Challenge Did get 805 though. Was right on track but got some virus thing for 2 days. I signed up for the Sept challenge and am going to tack on the 195 I need to finish so I can get both clippies. I started a challenge at school. Only 500 minutes for September but these people are really new to fitness challenges so it better be slow. So far the ones I've talked to are excited to start writing in their times.( you only need 16.6 minutes per day)
We did get our contract settled!!Yeah!!

Karebear: I usually take my meds before I go to bed and then I don't feel the effects while I'm trying to live my life. Might work for you .

Prayers for Florida and points south with their next ordeal. Maybe it will just be a rain storm.

Keep training -Steady, Steady , Steady!!!

Good evening everyone. I walked 2.3 miles tonight- we had a great night for walking too. So, mu DH and I ventured out and about the neighborhood for 48 minutes and that2.3 miles was the result.

I've been frustrated and slightly depressed the last few days- and have been avoiding walking etc. But- I've changed my diet once again- this time a high protein diet through the nutritionist- and I'm hoping it will work to get some more weight off. It wouldn't bother me so much (the not losing weight) if it wasn't making it hard for me to complete my goal of walking. But because my distances are becoming longer now, the weight is what is making my feet, and knees hurt- which slows or completetly stops my walking. I meet with patti (my trainer) tomorrow night. She's gonna observe how I'm walking now, how my shoes are tied etc. to see if those things could be giving me the pain in my foot/knees. So- hopefully between Patti and the nutritionist, we'll be able to solve the mysterious pain problem! Keep your fingers crossed for me please! And THANKS to everyone that has been thnking about me - it helps me keep on keepin' on! Sorry I've been such a gloomy girl this week- but I'm making a real effort to change that around! Between you and me.... I'm kinda SICK of it!!!! ;)

Everyone else seems to be doing so great! I'm joining in on the "It's Septmeber and it's time to get seriously serious!" gang!! It'll be fun and exciting to have some other kind of goal and way to look at that goal for a while! This month I'm gonna start on the cross training stuff.

Beth- thanks for checking in. It's always good to hear from you and know that you're hanging in there and getting by. Remember we are all thinking of you! Hopefully having hospice in the home will help relieve you for a few short moments for yourself.

Tomorrow is another new, bright and exciting day- and I can hardly wait 'til it comes!

Good Morning! The week is almost over and so is the 'summer' :( I spent 7 hours at school yesterday, just cleaning, and by the time I was done, I was done in. But I trekked on to Curves and did a 35 minute workout.:bounce: Then I went to Costco and dropped off some pics for my son to be reprinted. Since it was 1 hour service, I wandered around for 45 minutes, and then picked them up. Spent another chunk of change  and headed home.

This morning, I woke up early and did the 3 mile WATP tape. :Pinkbounc I haven't done that in ages, but, having been measured at Curves yesterday, let's just say, I am going to have to incorporate that more regularly. I wore my knee brace, and was very careful about placement of the knee over the foot.

Susan, you are doing a fabulous job. I'm so proud of you, and I think it will be ME trying to keep up with YOU on our first long walk together!

Sundie, you said a mouthful about listening to your body. Take care, sweetie. You are doing a fine job of your training!

Beth, to you and your Mom. Enjoy the days and evenings that you can with her, making happy memories. We understand that THAT is where you belong. Do take some time each day to walk, meditate, swim, anything to keep your thoughts and emotions in good health. Don't forget to eat properly, too.

Mmm, Mollie, I like your food thoughts. Reese cups. Yummy. Pie~can my be apple, or pumpkin, or raspberry, or lemon (I'll scrape off the meringue!) You are so right in that a small slip is not the end of the world, the success is getting started and back on track. Tooooot! Tooooot! Your training is varied and active. That is an important part of motivation, I'd say. Good for you!

Cheryl, sounds like you had a good day. Way to go! I think that if you DO eat early, it is important to have a little something later in the evening. At least, for me, if I don't, I'd wake up super hungry the next day, and eat, and eat, and eat.

Beckie, glad to see that your contract was settled. Ours hasn't even been started to be looked at. :( Good thinking with the challenge at school. Maybe I should see if some of our teachers would like to do that. Our EA's are almost all suffering physical (usually knee) problems.

Karen, hun, I hear how hard it is for you. Doing all the right things and still not losing IS frustrating. Could you add some biking/swimming as a replacement for a bit of your walking to ease up on the knees? Keep us up to date on all the things that your trainer and nutrionist say.

Have a great day, everyone!

Remember, the hardest thing is lacing up the shoes! Just do that, put one foot in front of the other....and soon you'll be walkin' out that do-o-or!

Slow and steady wins the race. . . and the Donald medal!

Good Thursday Morning Everyone,

Last night I did do my stroller walking for 45 minutes and then I dropped her off at home and did another 15 minutes. I can't believe how much quicker you can walk without pushing the stroller.:earseek:

Karen, I know how you feel. I hurt my leg in March when I tried to put some jogging in with my walking. It took 8 weeks to heal and the physiotherapist told me to not run because the injury is something that you can't prevent from happening again. I had to stop everything and of course when you're not doing anything you eat. So I gained 10 pounds. I've managed to get that off and then some since starting my eating plan in July but the last two weeks the numbers on the scale haven't moved. I keep telling myself that it's a muscle building thing but some days it's not helping. I've been totally on my eating program (no cheating) for two months now and so I know that the numbers on the scale shouldn't matter but sometimes it does.

To all of you who come here everyday I want you to know that you give me the strength to keep going. Last night my DS who is 9, told me that I'll never get done the race in the time required. I told him that it doesn't matter as long as I try my best. And thanks to all of you I am trying my best.::yes::

So, thank you to all of you and I look forward to meeting you in person in January. I will pray today for the safety of all our friends in Florida, for those of you in difficult times and for all of us that we are successful in our training.

Have an awesome day!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Ok...so it was only 23 minutes, but the big news is that I did indeed walk today. That is my first since 8/13, so at least I got out the door and I really DIDN'T want to go!! I'm determined to hit that 1000 minute September challenge.

Susan, hang in there and don't listen to your son. Maybe you should make him your "trainer" to help you get ready. It would be a lot better for you if you could refocus his energy and comments!! But, sometimes that isn't possible.....I plan to finish in time...I'll probably only be one step in front of the sweeper, but I am going to do it and you'll do it, too.

Thank you all for the kind thoughts and prayers for my family. Also thank you for the prayers with the storm. We are in the projected path, but not for many days, so we'll see. We're trying to decide if we need to get to a medical shelter, evacuate, or what....stay tuned!!lol :umbrella:

Have a great holiday everyone!! What are your plans for activity over the weekend??

Happy training,
~~Beth:wave:
:flower1: :flower1: :flower1:

i kept getting a server too busy message and retrying - guess it finally took it!:hyper:

Wow! so many new faces I hardly feel I know anyone! :) YEAH LOTS OF WISHWALKERS!!! I've been absent....dh took a job out of state and we've been packing and trying to sell our house...so I've had a hard time getting "air time" to check in...but I printed out my 18 week training schedule and vowed that it's now or never...I must get this training done! I lost the first 50+ pounds by walking 4 miles 4-5 times a week and could pretty well keep it up...but when dear hubby had to take the job in another state (only 3 hours away) it meant I had noone to watch the kids on my 5am walks...so I've bit the bullet and have been working out at the Y...I did 3 miles yesterday on the treadmill at a 16 minute pace, 10 minutes elliptical (first time ever....new muscles being used that didn't like being awakened! UGH) and 15 minutes of strength training. Today I did 4 miles at about a 17 minute mile (3.6 on the speed dial)...I feel GREAT....a little sore...but more energetic and my mood has picked up greatly being a little depressed about the house not selling yet and being separated from my dh. Buy my training has me working out 6 days a week/2 days crosstraining/3 days walking 3-4 miles and 1 day doing the long (6,8,10,8,10,12 and up up it goes!EEK). But I'm not looking back...I'm letting my husband weigh me and record my losses but I don't want to know the number...I'd rather just be able to say after 18 weeks of training I lost x number of pounds and pshaw to whatever the number is... :)

Good luck to all of you and I am with you and can't wait to meet some of the dear friends who helped me reach my 50 pound clippie and all the new guys who are on their way to a healthier and inspired living! :)
Tara

I did 4.5 miles last night around Horn Pond. What a nice change of pace from the treadmill. I dread doing all of my training on the treadmill come winter. So I'm trying to get out on the real paths as much as possible. Today's weather is perfect for walking:)

Tara- Welcome Back!! We've missed you. Reading your post this morning was exciting. You sound very determined to stick to your plan- good for you!

I'm herhe this morning to tell you all that your good wishes and pixie dust seems to ahve been the answer to my foot problems! When I met with Patti (trainer) last night, she said that she thought the problem was that my feet were swelling because of the heat and that the swelling caused the shoes to fit tighter ( I have VERY wide feet) and..... because the shoes were fitting tighter, the tendon was having pressure pushed on it and that caused the pain. SO- I just have to relace my shoes when the heat sets in (which is unlikely now that Sept. is here) and all should be fine. So- I guess I have no more excuses to slow my workouts anymore. What's better is she said that my "jogging" probably did NOT cause any of the pain! That makes me very happy because that is how I was speeding my time up. I thought I had lost my timefor good!

So- this next week I'll be concentrating on doing FULL workouts, and the next week I'm gonna focus on time.

I'm soooooo happy now!!!!

I thought I was gonna have to drop out for sure- and now I don't have too. :teeth:

Did I tell you guys what the dietician has me doing now?
