Hi everyone karebear asked me to start the thread this week because she is on vacation.

Well we're another week closer to our goal and I am yet again recommiting to doing better this week. Lats week was BUSY for me and I never had the opportunity to get in a long walk. The days I had planned to walk something always seemed to get in the way but at least I did get in a few shorter unplanned walks so all was not lost. This week I am commiting to walk at least 30 min. 5 of the 7 days (hopefully getting in at least a few longer walks). It is another busy work week for me but I'm just going to have to do whatever it takes to squeeze my walks in. I have also been thinking very seriosly about my bad eating habits lately and I am going to try WW again starting tomorrow. I did WW with success 4 years ago and lost 14 pounds and got to goal but then slowly but surely I put the weight back on. I have tried Atkins and low carb which worked well initially but then I got tired of not being able to eat certain things when out with friends or at family gatherings and I gained that weight back too plus 2 more pounds. So I have been thinking about this all week and I am going to start counting points and writing down everything I eat but still watch what kind of carbs I am eating and just plain and simple try to feed my body better fuel for training for the 1/2 marathon. I am also going to try Grammy's idea of not eating anything after 7:00 at night, that right there should cut out a few points! I am hoping that by writing this all out it will help me stay more accountable because now I feel like I am not just having to be accountable to myself but to my marathon buddies also. I will let you know how I do. I even changed my clippie back to the Wish member so now I will be working hard to get back my 5 pound clippie, and then the 10, and the 15, and goal.

Well enough about me and my goals for the week. Does anyone else have any goals for the week?

Keep walking/jogging everyone! Remeber our motto WE WILL NOT BE SWEPT! Have a good week everyone! :sunny:

Cheryl

Well I'll list some goals for this week........accountability to my WISH buddies has been known to make me put down the fork!

I've been struggling with finding the daily routine that works for me regarding exercise. I live in the desert, and as we've just come in to monsoon season....it's pretty miserable even in the cooler morning hours to do my walk. So, the plan for this week:

1, Continue to rise early......spend that free hour on household chores (been neglecting them badly!) and this is the time of day I'm most inclined to putter about the house (sick, I know). In other words....I'm NOT ALLOWED ON THE COMPUTER IN THE MORNING! This will be very difficult, but the reward will be more time to DIS in the evening. The only allowable exception will be if I've earned a new clippie.......I'm claiming that puppy immediately!

2. Contine to pack my lunch....the best way to avoid the dangers of restaurants....plus, it saves $$

3. At EXACTLY 5:30PM.....go downstairs to the gym at work and do 30 mins on the treadmill Mon, Thu and do weight training Tue, Fri (Wed is an appointment with my nutritonist and rest day). Weekend exercise will be a mall walk and swimming.

4. The above leaves my weekday evenings free to goof off....because that's what I'd do anyway! Um, I mean my evenings are free to prepare a nice dinner and get the next day's lunch ready and to DIS. ::yes::

Today's a rest day for me. My body needs a little time to recover from pushing myself a little hard this weekend. my committments for this week are:

-attempt to regain my sanity (did I ever have it?) as the kidlets start their summer session preschool today. :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

-walk five time this week and use the recumbant bike the other two days

-start some weight/strength training three or four times this week

-eat OP and watch portion sizes/snacking

-buy more Hannaford brand sugar free fudgecicles...yummmm. They really do help get me through the cravings when DH has his nightly bowl of ice-cream or chips.

Thanks for starting the thread!

Today's run was a slow 4 miles through humid, foggy weather. I spent the whole time praying for rain to cool me off. It started to rain just as I got home. Tomorrow, my coach has me doing speedwork, which I hate and usually do poorly at. But this week will be different. I'm going in with a positive attitude and will do well!

tw1nsmom: forget about sanity, I think we're all past that point! :D It sounds like you have a great plan for exercise. What type of eating plan do you use?

ibouncetoo: A gym at work is a great thing. Going straight there at the end of the day is a good idea. And I totally agree about packing lunch. It makes a big difference in the quality of the food you eat and the quantity of cash in your pocket. ::yes::

Cheryl: We've discussed the eating plan thing before. It is the hardest part for me right now too. It used to be the other way, exercise was the hard part. I haven't been following any plan for the last 6 months or so. I think my best bet right now is the same as your--simple, basic food. Chicken, fish, whole wheat products, beans, low fat dairy. Sounds a lot like South Beach-can anyone confirm?

My goals this week:
Add an additional day of running to my schedule
Strength/weight train 3 times
Follow a healthy, portion controlled eating plan.

Have a great day everyone!
Colleen

good monday morning to all my WISH marathon training buddies :) I just have to report that I so didn't want to get moving this morning. I had my alarm set for 6:15 a.m. and prompty turned it off and went back to sleep! I did however arise at 7:30 and this thread motivated me to get dressed and get outside and walk/run. Since DH was leaving for work I just looped my block three times to be close-by (that's for AEG's benefit ;)) and I was disappointed when I got in to realize it had taken my 50 mins! So I got in my happy van and drove the dang loop to see how far it was and was a little relieved to clock it at 1.2 miles. So my interval was: walk 1.2 - jog .5 - walk . 7 - jog 1.1 - walk .1 home - avg 13:45/mile

I too really really need to lose this last darn 7 lbs. I do think that is slowing me down -- i feel choppy and cluncky

also -- i have noticed my hip flexors and glut/hammie connections are sore. I'm thinking it's all the adjustment of my orthotics and I really hope it improves over the next few weeks

so cheryl i'm with ya! I will be gone thursday night - sunday at a women's retreat that will be a foodfest. Send PD immediately!!

today I'm just focusing on today -- kudos to all for getting yourself going and commiting to improvement!!
:wave2:

Evening all! I only did some light weight training today as it is usually my day of rest when walking that long walk on Sunday. I did not do it this week because on Friday I did too much weight training on my legs (dummy, dummy me, because I shopuld have stopped when it started to hurt but I did not, it is a lesson I will not soon forget) and have had trouble climbing stairs and getting up and down from chairs. The weekend was brutal but today was better. Anyway I was able to do a few short walks on Sat and Sun but figured I would rest my legs today as I have to work the rest of the week (I don't get another day off until next Monday).

So this week I am going to continue to stay OP (WW) all week it will be 3 weeks in a row.
Hopefully get back to my regular routine Wed or Thurs of walking 3.2 miles in 1 hour or less and 5 miles on Sunday.
Continue weight training (starting slower).
:bounce:  princess: :chat: pirate: Smilies are courtesy of my 6 yo nephew who is spending some time with me. He wanted to see how they would look.

ohMom- You did well getting up and going. I also envy your time. Hope your orthotics get adjusted soon.

Colleen- Good luck with your speed training tomorrow and extra day of running.

Tw1nsmom- I agree with Colleen, we lost our minds a long time ago but I do know my sister is happy when her 6 yr old twins go back to school. They seem to get into more mischeif than two average kids and always have. We think it is the twin thing. We have Healthy Choice fudgesicles and now they have a vanilla icecream cup with caramel and chocolate sauce swirls that is pretty good.

ibouncetoo-Sounds like the gym at work is good thing. Packing lunch is the way to go not only to stay OP but it is expensive to eat healthy food out.

Cheryl N. WI- Thanks for starting the thread. Sounds like you have a great plan for the week. You will do it!

Less than 26 weeks!!

Hey everyone,

Sorry for my absence lately. I have definately fallen off the exercise track . Please kick me and make me jump back on. I did make lifetime 2 weeks ago, and then subsequently gained 5 pounds since the 4th of July weekend when we went to Virginia.

I think starting to post again will help. Being absent really makes it easy to be unmovitated.

Hi everybody

I just finished my stretching after walking/jogging 50 min on this muggy summer night. There was a beautiful sunset and I forgot to grab my CD player I was in such a hurry to get going so I listened to the birds singing and kept telling myself walk faster, now jog a little, walk fatser. I think I did pretty good and accomplished 1 day of my 5 day goal for walking this week. I also did OK with my eating today, 24 points and nothing to eat after 7.

It's nice to see that others are setting some goals too! It just helps to remind me that I'm not in this alone. I think I am going to make this goal setting for myself a weekly thing. Maybe if I look at this as shorter time spans like 1 day at a time and 1 week at a time it will help me stay more focused. It's certainly worth a try!

ibouncetoo I'll join you in trying to pack a healthy lunch instead of buying lunch at work thus avoiding more temptations and helping to stay on plan (and save some money too, more to spend at WDW in Jan. ;) ) It sounds like you have a great plan for your days. The link to the B&B you are going to from last weeks thread looks really great thanks for posting it.

tw1nsmom I LOVE sugar free fudgsicles too! They are great! Good luck finding your sanity and then maybe you can let me know how you did it so I can find mine too :magnify:

pixiechick Good luck with your speed work tomorrow :wizard: Having a good attitude towards it should help!

ohMom Here comes a load of PD :wizard: to help you stay as close to OP as you possibly can when you are at your womens retreat this weekend! It is times away like that that are often really hard for me too. Good job getting out there this morning even though it was later then you had planned, sometimes we just need to sleep in a little!

LAWalz23 I hope you continue to feel better after your overdoing it, been there done that, and it is sooo frustrating! But at least like you said you learned your lesson. It's good that you let yourself rest today with your busy work week ahead! I love your nephews addition to our thread :D

Melanie Congratulations on making lifetime :cheer2: :thewave: Don't worry about those 5 pounds, it was vacation after all and you know how to reloose it! Just restart now before you keep adding more to it like I've done in the past. Come climb back on the exercise track with us. YOU CAN DO THIS!

Have a good Tuesday everyone and good luck with our goals!

Cheryl

Sometimes you all overwhelm me! I am so sorry I have been absent, and each week I promise to come back, and well... I disappear again. I don't mean to be such a flutter butt!

I haven't been very good lately, but I got back on the bandwagon. I ran today for the first time in almost two weeks! (admitting it is the first step to recovery, right?!) I will do better now... DBF came with me, and it was a bugger of a hot day! We ended up walking the last half of our 55 minute run/walk. I am up to run four, walk one for the duration of the time, and it is a lot harder than I expected!

So, I started a new cheat free bear, and here is why:
No nail biting
Sticking to my schedule
No fast food
KASHI for breakfast - the kids got the better of me a couple times with Cinnamon Toast Crunch and S'Mores
3 workouts a day, two mini ones (10-15 min) and one big one.
Constantly working towards my 10 lb Labor Day Challenge Goal
Posting daily on the Marathon Thread!

It's a big commitment, once again. I am taking it one week at a time!

For those who are new who do not yet know me, I'm Ashley! I used to be good at posting, and I will be again!

To all of you who have posted, good job, here's a hug, and keep it up! PD to all, because I know we could all use just a little bit extra!!:wizard:

I miss you, and will post again tomorrow!

And, before I go, a little quote from NIKE...

Just Do It!

That helps me when all I really want to do is make excuses! Get out there and do it!

We all can and will succeed in meeting our goals and achieving our dreams!

Ashley:wave2:

P.S. Do any of you have AIM Names? We should post those on here, so we can chat sometimes outside of WISH Chat! I'm ashandrews917 on AOL Instant Messenger... Hope to hear from you soon!

Morning everyone!

Due to all the well wishes, pixiedust, and me hauling butt, I did well with the speed work today. Drove home the message that I continually underestimate what my body is truly capable of...

Ashley: good to "see" you. I'm in for 10 lbs on the challenge too. Only met half of my goal last time. I'm hoping to do better this time!

Melanie: Congrats on lifetime! 5 pounds is nothing, and you weren't exercising. You'll lose it again. I couldn't find a "kicking butt" smilie, so I'll crack the whip instead!
action-smiley-039.gif

LAWalz23: I feel for you! Rest those muscles, then start moving again. Tell your nephew I said, pirate:

Cheryl: Have fun with Karen. Let us know all about your meet!
Eating after 7 is a weakness for me. My DH gets home late a lot so it seems that there is always food out in the evening. Good job staying on program.

OhMom: Have the orthotics helped at all? Keep stretching those legs, it may help some. Enjoy your retreat and try to avoid the food! Where's AEG?

Have a great day!
Colleen

I took it easy today and did about two miles this morning. I'm still having a hard time with portion size. All I can do is try harder next time.

pixichick: I'm trying to follow South Beach.. I really do feel better when I stay OP, but I seem to have quite a sugar addiction and I let it get the best of me sometime. Now I just have to come to grips with the fact that even though quinoa is good for you, two plates of it aren't.

Hey everyone! I miss you all so much! I don't have a lot of time, but I wanted to let you all know that I have learned to truley appreciate the blessings I have in living in Oregon! This last week in Wisconsin has been either freezing or so hot and humid that you can hardly breathe! My hats off to those of you that STILL train dispite this weather out here. YOU ARE MY HEROS!!!

Anyway- remind me to tell you about my adventure here in WI. All is well, but I eneded up in the ER in Beaver Dam.

Ashley- Glad to see you back again posting!

OH_ I forgot to say- my trainer sent me an email and said that I was doing so well in my training that she thought I could train for the full marathon if I wanted to- can you believe that?!?!?!? I can't! I wWON'T either- the Half is enough for me! I need to be by my friends!!!

Hey everybody - I really have had you on my mind - just haven't had a computer moment! Just read the thread and realized that I have missed out on a lot of good training details but applauding all of the committments I just read about and it's a "just keep swimming" last few days for me. (Why do the evenings seem to go so fast and the workdays can be so draggy?)

ohMom reported we took that 6 mile stroll last Saturday - it's just been Curves for me since then. I do plan on tming in the morning. I am eating pretty well and hanging in there on the 7 pm rule for the most part (broke that last weekend with ohMom) but Cheryl will be thinking of you as my "no snacking partner" ::yes::

It's always great to see the MIA's back - MelC - I need you to pm me your wrist size (or bracelet size just tell me which it is) and snail mail address so I can send you a "surprise". I finally have one for myself again, ohMom snagged mine ;) The great gal that is the "suprise" maker is suppose to be busy tonight getting more ready for me. :teeth: Just as soon as I get them - out into the mail they will go!

Keep up the good work everyone and have a good day tomorrow!

Oh forgot to mention when Molli was over this past weekend we bought our airline tickets for January! Makes it all official now - my DH (her DF) even suggested that we go one day earlier than we planned, so we are getting there on Friday now - (naw - didn't take much for us to agree to one more day :teeth:

I did one mile pushing a single stroller, then one mile on my bike riding with my DD, then one mile pushing a double stroller. We were an exercising family tonight. It is great to have such a supportive family. Now to do those abdominal crunches . . . .

Just a quick Hello tonight

I did my 50 min walk while DD was at dance class again tonight. My friend's family is out of town this week so I walked by myself and really pushed it to "go faster" and found a few more little hills. I figure I must have done at least 3 miles. I met my eating goals today except I feel like I'm using my flex points up quickly, hopefully after a few days of eating less I won't be as hungry and they won't go at the rate of 4-6 a day.

Tomorrow I get to meet Karen (karebear1)!!! I am so excited to meet one of the WISH walkers. I'll post tomorrow how our meeting goes and I'll try and remeber to take the camera and maybe DH can help me figure out how to post a picture of us.

Have a GREAT Wednesday everyone :sunny:

Cheryl

Hello wish walkers.

Congratulations to all of you who have been active this week. I have only gotten in a very short walk on one day. I was thinking the other day that I can truly do so much more now than I used to be able to do....

I dont' want to burden this thread with my personal troubles, so if you wish to skip the rest of my reply, please do. If you read through, know that I will stick with my exercise info from now on and I will try not to make reference to the following "stuff".

I had mentioned last week (I think) that my mom was having some health issues. We got her PET scan results yesterday and teh news is not good. My mom will be starting chemo next week and IF she responds well to chemo, she will have 8-12 months. Her doctor talked about hormone therapy instead but that takes 2 or 3 months to get into your system and he said we didn't have that kind of time.

On Monday my MIL was diagnosed with breast cancer. (This is how my mom's started in 1993) She will have surgery next Thursday.

If you are one that prays, please think of my mom, my MIL, my DH and especially my girls. My girls are incredibly close to my mom and although we haven't explained everything that is going on yet, I do think they sort of know and this is going to be a very hard road for all, but other than my mom, it will be especailly hard on my girls. My girls went over to spend about 30 minutes with my mom this morning. They took one of our home videos from 1999 when my mom went with us to WDW. It was before Milly was born.

For now I'm leaving my timers in my signature. It's doubtful that we will take our family trip, but everything may be behind us by the marathon time. We'll see. One day at a time. My heart breaks.

Safe travels, Karen.

Thank you all for your support and I apologize for any hurt or pain this reply might have caused. I will stick with my walk minutes going forward.

One foot in front of the other...

Now back to regularly scheduled programming....

~~Beth....I'm really going to miss my mom.

:flower1: :flower1: :flower1:

Beth- You must not give up hope! Miracles do happen and doctors can be wrong. We will pray for you and your family. I know that it is a lot to go through right now, but you will make it. :grouphug:

Beth     My hearth, thoughts, and prayers go out to you and your family at this very difficult time for you!  I have been thinking about you alot and wondering how things were going and I wish you would have had better news! Please DO NOT think you are burdening us with your troubles, we are your friends and we are here to support each other in everything and please keep us informed on how things are going.

Today I got to meet Karen! We spent such a nice morning together! We walked a little and talked alot and I can't wait to see her at the marathon. It was so nice to meet her and get to know her. She is such a nice lady, my DD (10 yrs. old) even said as we drove away how she was such a nice lady. You will all love her! I took my camera with and put it in the car for our walk and then forgot about it so we never got a picture  Oh well I'm sure we'll all be taking lots of pictures in January!

Ashley and Melanie It was so nice to see both of you back here again, now where have you gone? Don't disappear again you guys! Get your buts back in gear and as Ashley said Just Do It!

I still hope to get a little more walking in tonight. Have a good night everyone and a good Thursday!

Cheryl

Evening All!

Beth-I am praying for you, your DH, DDs and mother and mil. And sending hugs your way, too. Please don't feel that you cannot post updates on your mom and mil on this board, we want to know how they and the rest of your family are doing. We are here to support you and help if we can. Try to take care of yourself.

I claimed my 30lb clippie tonight after my weighin at WW on Tues. Only .4lbs but enough to put me over the 30lb mark and considering I lost 5lbs last week my two week total is pretty good. I was able to walk for 45min today without any after effects so tomorrow I go for my usual 3.2 miles in 1 hour and will work towards 5 miles on Sunday.

Hi everyone!

:grouphug: for Beth, and lots of :wizard: for your family!

Well, I got the results of my Tissue Mineral Analysis today along with a list of supplements and a suggested eating plan as well as some 'lifestyle' changes. The lifestyle changes being suggested due to my "adrenal burnout"!!!! I need to sleep more and take long daily walks....that sounds really good to me ::yes::

The big laugh for me was that I need to increase my protein by 15% GIRLS, I'm on Atkins!!!!! You'd think I was getting enough already. I think this had something to do with low zink level indicating 'inadequate protein synthesis'. Also have insufficient thyroid activity=very slow metabolic rate. It was all very technical and may take a little while to absorb it all. But I'll start on the supplements and new food plan next week. Have to call the lab and order my supplements for one month (and probably have a heart attack and the cost...even though I'm getting a discount).

The interesting thing is, my nutritionist is having me do a kind of 'induction' the first two weeks.....very low carb while I start my supplements, then we'll level off at around 40-50 carbs/day. Guess my hunch to give low-carb dieting a try was at least on the right track!

HEY, did you all get the June e-newsletter from the marathon? If you didn't you can PM me with your e-mail address and I'd be glad to forward it to you. There's a 10K at WDW Sun Oct 10.....gee, I arrive at WDW St Oct 9th......is it fate????? Think I'll check this out.
