Marathon Training Thread for 7/11-7/17

Thankyou to all of you for reaching out to me after my meltdown yesterday. I'm much better today and feel that I have some strength to get through this. My sis and I decided that we better call my brother in. We are keenly aware tht from this point forward that mom is always better right now than she may be tomorrow or even later today. She was quite weak by yesterday afternoon. He is here and he is her golden child so that should lift her up some. ::yes:: She is beginning to make some decisions of I don't want this treatment, or I do want that one, whereas just ysterday she wanted anything that was offered. Today is her CT scan and that should let us have a peek into the involvement of some of her organs, and it should give the level that her cancer is at.

Thanks again. I am so much better today. I didn't walk, but I figure I'll be running around the hospital enough today. AND the stress must be taking some calories because I should grab a new clippie today. Heck of a diet!lol.

Jackie, I am just amazed by your test and all the info you got. Go for the 10K. You'll have a blast and it will be like a marathon "appetizer!"

Hugs to all,
~~Beth

Hi everyone!

I haven't been very active on the board for a while. But I wanted to report in that I did a 10 mile walk last Saturday keeping above race pace regulations. It was great BUT I barely made it back to where I parked my car. Getting another 3 in will be quite a challenge. I also had HORRIBLE chaffing just about EVERYWHERE! Hopefully I will be done some more weight by race time and won't have so much "rubbing" :o

Anyway, I am excited for our challenge

I'd love to try the 10K in October, I haven't decided yet when our Fall trip will be (usually we go the week after Thanksgiving). Maybe this year will need to be October!!!!

Keep up the good work everyone ::yes::

Sundie

I walked for about a half hour this morning. I wanted to go longer, but I got a late start and DH needed to go to work. I'm going to try to do another half hour at the mall this afternoon while the kidlets are at school.

Beth, :grouphug: for you. I can't imagine what you must be going through.

Jackie, I have hypothyroidism too. I've been taking synthroid for about five years now. I have to get my levels checks regularly, but it's something that's really easy to control.

Well, I just need to post before I go run...

pixiechick - Good job pushing your body! Just don't push too far!

KatieBelle - I commend you for pushing that stroller... I need to pump some iron before having kids!

Beth - I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Never be afraid (and this goes to everybody) to share what is happening in your life. We really are more than a walking/running group here, and we are so lucky to be so.

Cheryl - You are always so motivated yourself and uplifting for the rest of us. How do you do it?!

LAWalz - THIRTY POUNDS! That is awesome! I have kept my measly five pounds at bay, but I would really like to grab onto that ten pound clippie soon!

ibounce - It IS fate! Let us know what you decide to do! It really does sound like that 10K is calling your name, though!

Sundie - 10 miles is awesome! The chafing thing is a bugger, though, isn't it? There are some different products taht you can purchase, but I haven't sought them out yet!

tw1nsmom - getting up in the morning...I just can't do it! Does somebody want to start giving me wake up calls? If I head out the door by 5:30 CST I should be able to get my training runs done before the hectic part of the day begins! Let me know!

Everybody else - Keep up the good work! I'm sorry if I missed anybody or left anybody out! I am here for you all and support you on your journey! We are all amazing ourselves, one step at a time!

I have been doing well at keeping on plan this week. Not perfect, but who is in the hot summer sun?

Things WERE getting better at the house where I work during the summer... But, she went ahead and bought a huge box of frosted sugar cookies, then some regular sugar cookies with a can of frosting.... This is very dangerous. This is a whole lot of cookie and a whole bunch more frosting. Stay away from these cookies. They sell them at Sam's Club and they are evil. They were calling my name this morning as I had two hours to myself before the kids woke up. and i gave in, too... oops. But, such is life... I didn't totally ruin it for myself, and a little cookie now and then just HAS to be good for the soul, right?!

Anyway, I am off to run as soon as DBF comes home and heads off to work again. Today I am all signed up for 45 minutes of run 4 walk 1, 10 minutes of warm up and cool down, and 4 stride drills. Should be fun! I will post at the end and let you know how it goes!

Ashley:wave2:

P.S. Just do it.

Well Team, I'm Back!!

And I successfully completed my workout. I even added five minutes to the end to compensate for that five minutes that I decided I needed to walk in the middle. It was hard and it was hot and I ran my hilly route again. But, I would do it again because I feel good and love the feeling of completion and satisfaction...

I hope that MY getting out there and busting my butt encourages the rest of you to get out there and bust yours! That's what you guys do to me, and I just wanted to pass it along!

Thanks!
Ashley:wave2:

Hi everyone :wave2:

I did get a walk/jog last night. I managed to get out there for an hour and I ran for longer stretches than I have before. I still can't run very far at a time, about 2 blocks, but I'm making progress slow but sure. I really admire all of you runners out there, it just really seems to be so much harder on the legs than walking. I also walked for about 55 min. tonight while DD was at dance class again. Tonight I found a hillier area and worked in a few more hills than I usually have right near home. I keep trying to find hills so I can prepare for the "Contemporary hill". I have driven up that hill so many times in our trips to WDW and I keep trying to picture it in my mind. From what I remeber it is pretty steep so I want to be ready for it.
I am doing pretty good with sticking to WW and writing down what I eat.

LAWalz Congratulations on losing 5 pounds in the past 2 weeks and claimimg your 30 pound clippie :thewave: That is awesome. I'm glad your walk went well yesterday, I hope todays did too!

ibounce Good luck with your new eating plan and supplements. DH and I take some pretty expensive supplements too but I figure if they are going to make us healthier they are worth it. They have helped my allergies and helped DH to lower his blood pressure! I got the marathon newsletter too! The 10K in Oct. is very tempting to me but with cruising in Nov. I will have to pass. I think you should definitely check it out, it is definitely fate you arriving just in time! You can let us all know how exciting it is then.

Beth I am so glad today was a better day for you. Remember as you said yesterday, take it 1 day at a time. It's good that your brother is there to help too. Congratualtions on the new clippie :thewave: but remeber to try and eat healthy and to take care of yourself at this stressfull time. You don't want to get rundown and sick because than you won't be able to help anyone. DD and I prayed for your family again tonight and will continue to do so. Stay strong and keep us informed.

Sundie Good to see you back here! WOW a 10 mile walk is great! :thewave: Keep up the great work!

tw1nsmom Great job try to get to walks in in one day. Thats what I need to do sometimes too just to get the longer times in but I figure breaking it up to get it done is better than not doing it at all.

Ashley Glad to see your cheerful self posting again and twice in 1 day yet, wow! Don't beat yourself up about the cookies, it happens to all of us and then we just have to move on again. Now HIDE those cookies to help resist the temptations ;) Great job getting in your workout in the heat and still doing the hilly route :cheer2: :cheer2: I always think of you when I am out there doing the hills I can find but they are babies compared to the ones I remember being in Duluth. Hey, July is flying by and before you know it I will be heading in your direction. Would you still like to try and meet? I hope so.

Karen I hope you had a safe trip home! Vacation is over now so jump right back in and get yourself back into your walking routine. Your doing a great job! Thanks for the lovely get together yesterday morning! (You have me thinking about DVC again much to Al's dismay lol)

Melanie Are you out there?

Have a great Friday everyone :sunny:

what a lazy butt I was this morning ::yes::

somehow this week my joints don't want to cooperate early in the morning so I have been slacking. I have been doing Curves after work and doing "something" each day - maybe I just needed a slower week.

Anyway, wanted to stop by and just encourage everyone to keep up the good work during the weekend! Yes- I am trying for a longer walk tomorrow - we have ohmom's 2 DD's this weekend but I think I can get out and get it done while they are still sleeping :p

We have a couple of busy days planned so may not check in for a bit. Ohmom off to her Emmaus weekend so for sure she won't be stopping by until late Sun or Mon and then they head off for a week at the beach (Ocean City Md) on Tuesday. Her exercise this weekend is (hand to mouth) lots of yummy food all the time :teeth:

Beth- I agree will all the other voices - you feel like sharing with us on this thread - we are here for ya - "team" doesn't just mean exercise area of our lives. Will continue to pray for you and family too.

Well, my coffee cup is empty means that its time to hit the shower and move on with this day ;)

Have a good weekend and don't forget to be drinking lots of water, too!

Hugs to all
Bev

Hello everyone. Thank you again for the prayers and support. I got lots of walking in yesterday running between doctors and pharmacies and procedures!! Once I get my mom settled where she needs to be, then I dash off to somewhere that we need some answers from. We're finding that it's difficult to get returned phone calls since we are not home very much and that seems to be the last thing on a nurse's to do list. But, slowly but surely we are getting some answers and moving forward. My mom had a cT scan yesterday which was pretty rough for her and then yesterday afternoon she had a procedure to drain some fluid from one of her lungs. She has been having difficulty breathing for some time and finally a Dr. decided it was fluid. It was 2300 CC's of fuild. That's more than a 2 liter coke but less than a 3 liter coke. No wonder the woman couldn't breathe! She was drowning!! But now that she can get some oxygen, she is feeling much better. She fed her cats for the first time in 3 months today and she did a load of laundry which she also hasn't been able to do. But she assured me that it would still be too difficult for her to fix her breakfast so I need to keep doing that. ::yes:: Anyway, that is fine with me...I'm just glad she is feeling some better. We have 2 appointments today and that includes one procedure so we'll see how she is after that.

Thanks again and hopefully I'll get back on track with some walking this weekend!!

~~Beth

First of all, :grouphug: to Beth. I woke up thinking about you this morning. Isn't it strange/wonderful/amazing how people we've never met can come to be important to us?

I only got in two walks on the treadmill this week. I leave for Sedona this afternoon and it's 20-25 degrees cooler there, so Saturday will include a hike in the beautiful red rocks of Sedona!
And lots of swim time too ::yes::

I pick up my new supplements Monday morning. $100 for 30 days! YIKES....guess I'll be re-working my budget. Fortunately I just got a raise (small, but a raise nonetheless) that should cover about 45% of that. And now I HAVE TO break myself of the habit of eating out alone.....a couple of three restaurant meals given up should cover the rest of it. ::yes::

Regarding the WDW 10K in October. I'm still not sure yet. Only costs $25 and if it were a 5K there would be no hesitation. I'm just not sure I'll be ready for six 15Min miles (I can only manage one right now!). This still needs some mulling over.....a good asignment for myself while I'm away this weekend.

Have a great weekend everyone......keep moving! I'll check in on you all Sunday night.

Hi all!! :wave2:

I'm here to confess that I've fallen off the exercise wagon. :( I need some motivation and reading this thread has certainly been inspiring!

That half marathon is only 6 months away - I gotta get off my butt!

I'll be checking in more often so I can keep myself accountable.

Doreen, Glad you're back!!!! Don't beat yourself up over slacking :) Just enjoy a fresh start NOW!!!!!

Just think of how exciting it will all be on race day ::yes::

Keep posting (I will try to do the same!)

Sundie

Hi everyone:wave:

First to Beth, my heart & prayers go out to you:hug: Anything you need just let me know!

Congrats to everyone who has been walking/running :D We really are making progress!

Has everyone done their airfare too? I guess I should look into this. I need airfare for our October trip too:rolleyes:

The rain has been making it hard to plan walks - my yard is a lake:boat: I did manage a 2 and a 3 miler. And I'm dressed and ready to go now.

LAWALZ congrats on the 30 clippie - way to go:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

If I could make it through the weekends I would be able to lose more, anyone have a solution to the weekend munchies:scratchin

You all have inspired me! I'm dressed and ready to head out for a nice long walk! I'll report back when I'm finished!

Best wishes to all today - a good workout for those who are exercising and a little extra motivation for those who aren't in the groove today! We can do this!

Thanks!

Doreen - I am just ready to go too -maybe I'll catch a glimpse of you- I'll be :wave2: when I see you !

Wanted to update that I finally got to mail more "surprises" yesterday. Hope you get them soon - mailed to

Auntmeme
Katiebelle
Lzwalz223
Mishoe01
Tw1nsmom

If you haven't pm'd me your name, snail mail address and wrist size, still time too - the person making the "surprises" is getting really good now!

P.S. BTW - if the one I sent you doesn't fit and you need me to send cord or cord/beads so that you can adjust - let me know shouldn't be to hard for you to adjust yourself ;) Evansmom likes hers as an anklelet - so if it's too big you might try that :teeth:

I'm going to get mine on - so I think of EACH ONE of YOU while I 'm out this morning !

AEG, was that you I saw out and about?? You looked good!! :wave2:

I just finished walking 5 miles and did it at race pace! YAY!! I also mapped out a 5 mile loop in my town that I like so I'll be walking this again. It has lots of hills so I should be in great shape for the half marathon if I JUST KEEP DOING IT!! :p Consistency is a bit of a problem for me! ;)

I feel great that I finally got off my butt and did something healthy! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

AlreadyexcitedGrammy: I'm so excited! I'll be checking the mail every day! I don't get much besides bills and junk in the mail, so this is a real treat.

I really didn't want to walk this morning. My bed was feeling soooo good. But then, DH reminded me that we didn't have any milk, so I decided to walk the mile to Stewarts (it's a local chain of convenience stores that specializes in dairy products). Even though it's not far, I'm pretty proud of myself because in the 5 1/2 years we've lived here I've always driven when I needed to pick up something from the store. So, with the little detour I added down and back on a dead end road, I think I walked about 2 1/2 miles.

Good Sunday morning everyone!!

Ok...so I confess no walking for me today but I do have a plan for the week, so at least that is an improvement!!lol

I will walk Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday. and Possibly Friday with Wednesday and Thursday off. Stay tuned.

We are all doing better here, and we're holding it together. My mom starts chemo this week and she's ready for that. I'm not the emotional basket case I was earlier this week. My pastor said that when you have trauma like this that many times you seem to get some of the grief out of the way up front in anticipation of what is to come... Anyway, I do feel strong enough now that I can help my mom and my girls through what lies ahead...thank you again for all your support....

HOpe everyone has a great week.

~~Beth
EDITED TO ADD: I did earn my new clippie!! I'm only 1.2 pounds from a total 50 pound loss now!! Still a long way to go, but slowly and surely I will win this race!! AND I'm only 4.2 pounds from a SHINEY clippie!! New clippies don't come easy for me so I'm excited!

Beth, best wishes for your mom as she starts chemo this week and for you as you are there to support her!

I walked 3.1 miles in 50 minutes today - after yesterday's 5 miles at race pace, I felt the need to slow down a bit. :p

Good evening all!

Doreen: Nice work this week! Keep it up!

Grammy and OhMom: Hope you guys have a great time in O.C.! Bev, I wear my present during every run. I keep it with my gear and it goes on before I head out the door. How cool is it that I have "gear"? :p

Beth: sorry I haven't check in with you sooner. I do have you and your family in my prayers. You're not troubling us with your concerns, feel free to share and/or vent.

tw1nsmom: I'm convinced that the daily things, like walking to the store is what makes a BIG difference--keep it up!

MeMe: Keep walking, or wading!

Sundie: Glad to see you again!

ibouncetoo: Hiking in Sedona...:worship: I'm jealous!

Cheryl and Ashley: The three of us have to keep focusing on our "eating" goals. That seems to be where we fall apart!:teeth:

Karen: can't wait to hear from you about your trip!

Who did I miss?

Ran 10.5 yesterday, for a total of running 28 miles last week. The eating plan (or should I say "not drinking wine" plan) is my weakness! I did meet my strength training goals! On to another week! ::yes::
