AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! We're getting REALLY CLOSE!!!

I haven't had time to read the last half of last weeks threads yet. I just got back into town from a wedding. I have read a few threads with short posts though. It's amazing how much things can change in 5 days!

I'm feeling like I am ready nad rested and can do anything now. So for the first time in some time I plan on following my scheduled walks and seeing how my calves react to that. I believe I'm only scheduled to do 2 or 4 mile walks this week with the exception of Staurday- at which time I'm supposed to do a 12 mile walk! Can I do it????

How is your training going this week?

I just read the last half of last weeks thread.

YOU GUYS ALL RULE!!!!

You're such an inspiration to me. Thank you for that!

Lisa- I'm so sorry to hear about your pain in the bum! I understand how you feel about wanting to do the training, but being told to calm down and not train. I wish I could tell you that I followed what I was told to do. Well, I guess for the most part I did. I've really stayed away from walking big distances and even walking daily. Juts do what your trainer says. They know how to fix these things. Sending pixie dust your way!

Dawn- AWESOME!!! WTG with the mileage and time!!

Who else needs pixie dust sent??? Maybe we can get the tag fairies to send some to the injured masses in time to repair us for the marathon!!!

I'm starting this training thread with a rest day. I ran 3.5 miles yesterday. My last long run is Thursday morning, and I am so nervous! 12 miles!
The bad news is my new shoes are hurting one of my toes. I'm getting "runner's toe" where you hemorrage under the nail bed. Time to go back to my old shoes. Hope my toe gets better in 3 weeks!
Good luck this week This should be the week that everyone does their last long push and then taper, taper, taper. Have fun and enjoy how far you've come. :)

Everyone is doing so terrific. I'm getting excited to meet everyone. I just found the website for GU and found there is a sporting good store in my town (DUH I hadn't even thought of that because I think of that for things like kyak's, hiking, skiing, etc) I'm hoping to find the pack that is like a fanny pack (unless it doesn't hold much else). I'm thinking I want a pack large enough to roll up long sleeve cool max shirt (I don't really want to throw that out since it's so lightweight).

The GU website say's that you should take one 15 minutes prior on an empty stomach. and then one every 45 minutes and one right after you completete your exercise. So does this mean that you shouldn't eat before the marathon in the morning? Is anyone using the GU20?

Everyone hang in there.

In answer to questions posed earlier about what/how we are proceeding:

Sorry, can't answer the gu question. I am planning on something else before race start and then trying to decide on the gu during. I found I can tolerate about a half portion some miles in then add the other portion a little ways down. I guess I will take 2-3 packs withme and probably plan to only use maybe 2.

I have had that nauseous feeling and figured it to timing of my eating. If it is too close I don't like that I think.

I am planning on wearing a tighter fit shorts or if really cold, then tights. I will layer on from there. Still have to gather the goods, but I have what I want. Socks I will wear a pair I got from Fleet Feet, but can't remember the brand. They are the pair that actually have a left foot and a right foot designation and mostly seamless as my feet are so sensitive.

Need to find a blanket to bring along.

I am in the crosstraining taper mode I think. We will see how this week goes. Not sure if I will up my training from the last way too low level or just keep it at what I have been doing.

I hope to try to keep track of all that is going on and some way hope it comes together. The myriad ov posts has my head spinning to try to keep things all straight about our planned meet ups.

Good luck today to everyone.

Keep on keepin' on.

Eat breakfast before hopping the busses--something light...take the gu 15 minutes prior to race start--your stomach will be sufficiently ready for gu at that point if not completely empty. Gu is intended to digest quickly and if you eat it with food which takes longer to digest--I don't think the Gu will work as it is supposed to.

I'm having it out with my coach--not really--I think it's PMS..I asked too many questions and provided too much info here and not enough there--and basically was told to chill out!

If I don't work out--I'm going to grow!!! And I don't mean taller! I've already gained like 2 pounds from last weeks hiatus!

You know--my kids started this whole pain in the **** thing--and I was doing just fine from their birth until about a week ago! GRUMBLE GRUMBLE GRUMBLE...

he always says to ask for a modified schedule if you need one--so I needed one b/c I didn't want to do too much--so he gave me one...and I asked for a different one...grrrrrr!

I hate PMS! At least I won't have to worry about that and the after effects at Disney! I think I'll put lime green Mickey's on my butt and when y'all are ready to take me down--you'll know who it is!

cuz I rested today and had a wonderful massage tonight - what more could one want for a Monday :flower1:

Gotta go read/surf about this - I have this periodically too - didn't know it was called runner's toe. Mine usually takes a few days to feel better - but one thing is the nail area seems to really thicken - so this last time I actually filed and smoothed the nail and it seemed much better. Also, sometimes I lose the nail too. I have also put vaseline on the toe and that seems to help on the longer walks - PM me if you want more conversation.

Lisa - sweetie - sounds like PMS to me - all I can think to add is -"this too shall pass" - I will be looking for those lime green Mickey's tho :earboy2:

Karen - OF COURSE you CAN DO 12 MILES - Piece of cake - and then just think after you do it - the mind game is WON - you will have done 12 miles and what's a lousy one more when you go do the real thing!!! Sending PD your way and yes, add me to the list of those (if you got one) for needing some PD too - my "bun" pain is still there and I am just thinking positively that it will NOT be a factor January 9th.

Everyone - you are doing a great job - and BTW where in the heck is Kimmickey we haven't heard from her for a while - do we think that Uncle Sam is keeping her from her training ?

Can't wait to meet everyone - and let's start a thread after the holidays with pictures of those who will be at WDW so we can have a jump start on recognizing one another. What do you think?

Keep up the good work everyone !!!!! Gotta go check out runners toe and then should get busy being a Santa helper too :wave2:

Hi there,

I just did 3.5 miles on the TM. Got my new bra's today! I love them so far. The test will be wearing them while doing a long walk. I plan a 10 mile walk this week some time.

I got the "runners toe" or black toe as someone called it last week when I did the 5 & 8 mile walk. My nail was sore for days. Today is the first day it really feels better and I felt like I could walk. The skin itched around it last night. I heard they call it black toe because your nail sometimes gets black and falls off. I bought new shoes 1/2 size bigger to hopefully alleviate it. I also got new socks tonight too. I hope this takes care of the problem.

wooohooo....I just did 10 miles!

I am so siked. I just got off treadmill, I havent even firgured out time yet........I actually reset my treadmill, when it hit 100 minutes.......So that plus 39:15 minutes...
total of 139:15 minutes......ahhhhhh

ahhhhh
ahhhhh
lol
can someone figur that out for me........
I have to say the SOCKS WORK!!!!!!!!!!
I wasnt able to find cool max but found a pair just for running at models they were about 8 bucks.......
lolI am so cheap but glad I spent the money........They seriuosly work my feet DO NOT HURT AT ALL!
(perhaps tomorrow! lol)

Anyway thing is, I am a waitress..sooooooooooooo
I can wear them for work!lol
I really do feel good.........about half hour into it, I noticed I was comfy at walking for 2 minutes then running for 3 or four minutes..........
The core of my run I did just that and I am not een sweating that bad.....pacing defintly works.......
last treadmill biggie was 2 hours long ( I did time rather that distance) that time, I did 8.25 miles at the 2 hour mark........ thhis time I uncovered the LCD ( I cover the whole darn thing with duck tape cause I find myself looking to much) I uncovered it at 2 hours just out of curiousity and found I ran more pacing myself at this rate I was at 8.75! thats a hal fmiule faster than last time.

I was so tempted to do the whole thing but honestly, I got bored.I was watching tv and had just had enough..........
sorry I am going on and on but I couldnt wait to get off and post thatttttttttttt

I really think I can do this now............

Love you all for your support and advice.......

P.s for those of you who have followed my ticket dilemma, guest communications finally contacted me and they are trying to reissue my lost tickets.............

talk to you all soon.

Definitly back on track
:earboy2:

I just posted on last week's thread, but I'll post again here. Everyone is doing so well in their training. I am admitting that my training isn't where it really should be, but I am going to start the 1/2 and see where it takes me. Thankfully I think I have convinced AnnieT to start with me. We both have been away for a while.

I am nervous about what to wear, what to pack in a fanny pack, what to eat (before & after) and how how to get enough sleep the night before. I appreciate reading about everyone's techniques and thoughts, so please keep them coming. I am making notes on things and bookmarking items too. I have got to get me a new pair of shoes and try them on several walks, so I know that will get me out there. I also need to figure out the socks, bra, etc.

Keep up the great work and the inspiration that you all are giving us all. We are all in this together. Have a wonderful Tuesday!

TammyNC: this fellow NCer is in your shoes. My workouts have stalled, and I am so afraid of trying the 1/2. I'll follow your suggestion, and start, and go as far as I possibly can.

I feel much better now--although PMS is sneaking it's way into my mind. Blast womanhood!!

I was studying the map--"the think system" ;)

Anyway--when you are walking through the MK parking lot on your way to contemporary hill--you only have 4 miles left..and then when you get into MK, it's only like 2 miles left...then you just practice your--gotta get through MK as quick as possible--you know, like we do when we hit the parks ;) And you are almost done. Just think--a quick jaunt through the park!

I think that I will be walking from MK to AK--anything but running, so that I won't even think about turning off. I am also going to carry the map with me and mark the time splits on it--so that I know that I have to be at mile such a such by this time or that. This way--I know if the sweeper is going to catch up to me...I don't want to get picked up :)

You can do it along with some of us others who are feeling a bit nervous. We will be there supporting each other and may surprise ourself in wanting to get that Donald metal.

I think you NC'ers will be very surprised how many of us that have been training all along are feeling the EXACT way you are now! Most of us have never done a marathon before and many of us have injuries that we just don't know what will happen with them! I love your attitudes and the fact that you are all trying .... even if you think you won't be able to do it. I think you may be surprised!

I didn't have any official training today.... but I worked REALLY hard at my first day on my new job.... at THE DISNEY STORE! Boy! Am I tired- I was on my feet for 4 hours straight! I'm telling you right now, if I hadn't been training for this maarthon, I never would've made! Tomorrow- I WALK FIRST THING IN THE AM.... BEFORE I go to work! How do you working women do it??????

Hi everyone YIKES we are close now. Less than 3 weeks to go! I can't believe how fast the time has gone since we all signed up for this "endeavor". I can't wait to actually meet all you guys!!! Sending loads of PD :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: To all that are injured that you heal quickly and to all that are not injured that we stay healthy! I probably won't have time to post much this week as I still have loads to do to get ready for Christmas but I will be thinking of all of you and doing my best to get my walks in. I have my 8 mile (tapering back :D ) walk marked on my calendar for Wed and I just hope the roads aren't icy so I can get this in. I am too busy right now to be getting tooo nervous but next week at this time I will probably be starting to go crazy  . Nerves, excitement, packing and making sure everything is set fot DH and DD whom I am leaving at home, yep I'll definitely be starting to go crazy next week lol.

I'll try and check in as much as I can this week so I don't fall to far behind on how all my buddies are doing. In the mean time just keep repeating WE WILL NOT BE SWEPT, WE WILL NOT BE SWEPT! Have a great week everyone! See you real soon!

Cheryl

Trained today according to plan. (50 min. on the treadmill run2 /walk3). I am nursing my blisters but they are not too bad. I ordered Wright 's no blister socks from REI today. Merry Xmas to me!! I'm feeling really good about this race. I did 10 miles last weekend and could not believe that within about 15 minutes after I finished I really felt back to normal with sweaty clothes. Big Surprise to me. The Penguin knows his stuff. Regular training this week, 1- 8 mile and 1 - 5 mile and the real taper begins!!
Wiskband - We are on the same plan and about the same place. (Your faster!)
Tomorrow i have to go the funeral of a fellow teacher's husband. He ignored the beginning signs of lung cancer and it spread to his brain. It is really sad. No training for me but comfort for her.

Better news - My stepson is in the state and with my son in Minneapolis. My husband will go and pick him up tomorrow and my son will be coming home on the 24th. Haven't seen my stepson for almost 2 years.

Just got my hoppers in the mail. Starting to feel real!

Hope everyone has a good training week and a fab holiday!!!

Good morning everyone. It's so exciting to read about everyone's success and everyone is doing so terrific.

Darn it all if I didn't get sick. I've had a deep cough every once in a while since last Friday. Last night after doing the 3 miles on the treadmill it started to get worse. I went straight to bed, took some nyquil and passed out into a very good sleep. Haven't slept that good in a while. Bad thing is I woke up this morning with a VERY deep cough and my normal voice is sounding scratchy. It also hurts very bad to cough from my chest. I think I may make an appointment at the Dr. this afternoon and go home from work early. I need to get better soon and a cough is the last thing I need trying to do a marathon.

I went to the sporting good store that was supposed to have the GU. They don't have it and the guy didn't even know what I was talking about. UGGH!!

Renee- Awesome job on the 10 miles. I have to do my 10 or 11 mile walk this week too.
Dcaff- I hope your blisters get better. I bought the same anti blister Wright socks too. I hope they work well. I like that they are thin.

Cherly- We will not get swept, we will not get swept! I believe !!

Lisa- Hang in there. Sending more pixie dust your way that you make a full recovery before the race.

Hey Tammy & NC. I believe you will do better than you ever imagined even without the advanced training. Ihaven't trained much since June and it's amazing how well my body is responding.
Have a great day everyone.

Hi everyone! I did 3.5 again this a.m. and felt great. I went back to my old shoes and my toe is thanking me. Yes. the nail began to turn purple-ish, but I think it will return to normal or grow out since I switched shoes. My last lon run is Thursday!

I am relieved to hear that you are nervous, too! It's an excited nervous...how will the run go? Will I finish? Will I have pain? Will it feel easy or be a struggle? Will I freeze or will it be warm? My goodness, will it rain?! LOL! What if I fall on my booty? No, just kidding!

Happy training everyone. If you are on to taper already, I am jealous! I need to pick up some lime green Mickeys for my backpack in the parks. I'm not sure that I'll make any meets as I have a friend with me who doesn't DIS and would probably think I'm a looney for meeting up with internet people! (even if you are all nice!) ;) Hope to "run" into you in 2 or so weeks!
