Marathon Training Thread for 11/28-12/5

I got this off of an earlier thread on this board. It links you directly to the WDW meetings and conventions site. You can purchase the park hoppers at a discount on this site, and they do have the 2 & 3 day hoppers avail, as well as an after 2pm-1 or 2 day ticket option. :jumping4:

another person posted the following about using these tickets:

"the special tickets have to be purchased by someone regestered for the event/convention (you) but can be used by your guest (supposedly immediate family). The first use has to be during the event/time of your resort stay. That was the part I had to get cleared up because the 'event' is 1/6-1/10, but I didn't want to 'start' the ticket till 1/11. I'm OK because I've booked on Disney property for three more days. The ticket has a 10 day life span from date of first use."

I have not purchased mine but am planning to purchase a hopper this way for my husband.

Hope this helps... :flower1:

Hi and thanks......not sure about these tickets yet ( I am waiting for them to call me back) however, I stumbled upon some very knowledable folks at the number provided.
I spoke with someone who used to work at guest relations at the themem parks and she said that all I would have to do is bring the ticket that I do have and they would scan it void it and reissue me all new tickets. She was very pleasant and although I told her I believed her I mentioned that with my luck, Ill get there and this won;t be the case. So she transferred me to someone else (I believed) worked at guest relations calls center..he varified that this is the case. Anyway I am still wary that this wont work so I left a message with the conventions support and hope they will call me back and let me know if I can indeed use these tickets. you mentioned the dates 1-6 through 1-10. Is that an offical event period of time?

I am so torn, not sure what to do...........I would like to purchase these tickets perhaps two day tickets and just straighten out my other ticket situation while I am there and use them ( the lost tickets) another time.

Have you spoken with anyone about purchasing them and if this is considered a convention and/or event that falls into the tickets catagory?
Cause the other site that was posted (wide world of sports) I came so close to buying them until I called and they told me that the marathon does not meet the requirment to buy and use those tickets.......

Sorry so long but need some insight............

thanks

I was the one who made that post...I HAVE NOT YET BOOKED TICKETS THROUGHT THIS SITE. I wanted someone (live person) to confirm that I could start use on 1/11 (not 1/10 which is the date window listed on the site). However, I just went back to the site and it would process me the whole way through and sell me the tickets!!! I suppose to be safe I can just get the 3 day and if I don't need to activate it on 1/10 I can always go to a park for breakfast on departure day?! I'll do more research when I get home from work...and AFTER "Lost"

Heres what I found out (after that post)
I called again and was forwarded to a recording that stated they were closed but gave a number in case of an emergency...(not sure who would have a convention emergency...lol) after a few moments of thinking what may constitute an emergency........I CAVED and called...I spoke with a women named Beth and after about a 15 minute conversation, she stated that the marathon does constitute a convention and/or meeting. She says this is the case because so many people are coming for one reason..... I mentioned the dates to her as well jan6-10. she said that sounded about right. SHe also keot telling me that Group ressie should know all about these tickets and I would be able to purchase them over the phone with them.she also gave me the number I have for them which is were we made our ressies..... Heres the problem, I called them a week ago to find out if there were any discounts on tickets and they said No the only thing they would do is sell me a package or reserve my room ( which I have already done) I think I may just buy them.....I too went through the steps to buy them and noticed it didnt ask me what meetin and/or convention I would be attending. Which, is kinda odd.......the restrictions are you and only your immediate family are able to use them.so when do they plan on finding out who the user of the ticket is? I am assumimg at the gate just like a FL resident pass you would need to show your residency. So this leads me to, being able to purchase the ticket and hoping that when I get to the gate that person will believe me when I say "i am here for the marathon"..........

again, I am at a loss....not sure what I am doing.with my dilemma both these tics and my lost tics.......I feel I am taking a chance.......and I simply don't have the money the be safe and buy regualr hoppers.........

Ill keep you posted and if you find anything else out let me know please..........

I walked 4 miles on Sunday and 2 1/2 miles last night. Today was my twins' fourth birthday so I did not get in my cross-training. Tomorrow is a rest day. Then 2 1/2 miles on Friday, cross-training on Saturday and 5 miles on Sunday.

Like everyone else, I have gone back and forth on whether I should even start the race if I can't finish it. I have decided to go as far as I can. The victory for me is having the courage to start. I will continue to train even if I can't make it to the end. My ultimate goal is to be healthier and to avoid the early onset of diabetes that will inevitably be coming my way in the future. It feels so good to do something for myself for a change. Keep going everyone! We can do this! princess:

sorry for addition post but this has nothing to do with tickets....

We I need is foot advice big time............

I just did 2 whole hours on treadmill..........

I taped up the entire LCD on my machine so I would see how many miles or the time and put on the TV and went for it........
I did 8.25 miles so I am good in time........
I wasn't panting, I am walking and jogging.........
BUT

o my god do my feet hurt!!!

Now, my sneakers are the best..or at least I think I have been preserving them for this event....... I think it may be my socks not sure........
now that I have felt this I will try the glide or vaseline.......
but, are there any other suggestions.perhaps DR. scholls?

or spefic type of sock...........

I am finally think I may be able to finish this event but the feet are an issue big time.......

any advice

It was the phone number to this (Disney Meeting)link that I called...321-939-7129 a couple of weeks ago. A woman told me that, yes we were entitled to the tickets AND that as long as I had a reservation on Disney property, the first use date of the ticket could be 1/11 (the dates for tickets/event listed at the web site is 1/6-1/10....MARATHON WEEKEND DATES). I think before I actually buy them I'm going to call again to clarify exactly what the tickets say and what is required (ID?) when you use them. Does anybody remember who posted the original link?? And how she found the Disney Meeting site? Maybe because there are so many participants, they are not 'advertising' this option, but it is available to those who hunt it down??? I'll call tomorrow during business hours and let you know.

It was me, Jackie. I found the Disney Meeting web site by digging around. I can't remember what lead me to look under Disney Meetings. I know I started the search under Sports because these "good for 10 day only" tickets are very common for sporting events like AAU basketball tournaments. I know we had them available in July, but I wasn't the person coordinating our AAU basketball team's trip (we were in the processing of moving from TN to MO). Anyway, one search on the Disney website lead from one thing to another until I found those 'convention' tickets.

Just to make things more interesting... look at this thread on the Budget Boards... 2/3 day hoppers . I have signed up for the mailing list of Discount Orlando Vacation to see if there are ticket offers there. Mousesavers has them as a legitimate ticket broker.

I know it is easier for AAU stuff! Not sure why thousands of Marathoners shouldn't get a deal!

Renee,

Coolmax socks are the best, a little more expensive than normal. What sort of hurt? Blisters? If it's blisters or chafing type hurt then body glide works wonders, I buy it at my local running store and use it on my feet, and my inner thighs, and my inner arms (anywhere my clothes have a seam).

If they ache or it's a sharp pain, then it may be something like too much too soon, or plantar faciitis. Which means slow down.

I haven't done any training this week yet, and my long run this weekend is 8 miles. I am hoping to get a run/walk in tomorrow. I have even gone so far as to tell work that I have an appointment after work so I cannot work late. I do have an appointment with my running shoes, and the pavement.

I hope everyone elses week is going well.

I am up for meeting for breakfast on Saturday morning, and then heading over to the expo, or meeting up for dinner on Sunday night before we head to Pleasure Island.

For Saturday I plan on having a baked potato and hitting my bed early. I probably won't sleep much but I will watch tv or read, and be off my feet and resting. I don't do alot of pasta, rice, bread etc - it doesn't agree with my belly, so I have to load up on other carbs, but if we hit a food court - maybe Pepper Market for dinner, I would join in.

24 sleeps to Christmas Day!

For blisters--COOLMAX socks all the way.

I get knots in my feet--almost like tension spots one would get in the shoulders. I have GREAT shoes--and on long runs, my feet will start hurting at Mile 8. I have recommended the Foot Wheel. It was created for patients with plantar fasciitis (which I do not have)--but it is useful to get out the aches. You press and roll your foot on it and when you get to a sore trigger point--you roll back and forth over that one tiny spot for about 30 seconds or so (it will HURT). Essentially you are doing "myofascial" release on your tootsies. I work on my foot until I feel that most of the tension has been released. My feet eventually feel like heaven--this is after a 16 mile run. My foot wheel is a part of my post long run regiment as much as tossing off my sneakers and throwing on slippers. This is the next best thing to a masseuse--and I have never ever said that about any manual massaging device (I like the plug in varieties usually, b/c I hate working to relax myself).

http://www.worldcycling.com/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=STK3&Category_Code=UDFGIFTS

I recommended it to one of our other walkers--but I forgot who--she ordered it..I think she was happy with it.

Hope this helps!

I ran 5-4-5 miles this week between Tuesday and Today.

Averaging around an 11 minute mile training pace :)

Saturday is 16 miles for me.
:moped:

Next week is 4-6-X-4. I didn't do cross training this week since my long run was on Sunday.

Well they attract about 18000 runners (12 regular, plus the rest from charity groups)...too many for Disney to want to mess with Discounts in my opinion. I think it is all about the bottom line and they know they don't have to offer discounts b/c athletes and families will probably do Disney anyway. Supply and Demand--the demand will be high enough, so no need to supply with cheaper rates (stinky, I know!)

With conventions--they want those conventioneers to spend extra money on top of working--like a working vacation. So it is easier for Disney to entice them with after 2pm discounted tix. Otherwise the conventioneers are more apt to do all work and no play. Plus with discounted tix--they are more likely to bring their families along which means more money again.

Just my casual observation.

Have you guys looked at APs as a way around your mess--and then just plan another Disney trip later in the year? Those PHP's are $$$$$. This is our logic when we buy tickets--it doesn't make financial sense for a Floridian to buy PHPs b/c they are much more expensive than our AP's. So perhaps if you could somehow plan 2 trips to Disney--then you would totally reap the rewards of being a passholder--then that can ultimately resort (pardon the pun) in reduced rates to stay on Disney property and such.

I guess I would have to say blister type pain or actually I should say it seemed that I was about to get a blister......

I just realized however, that earlier yesterday morning while I was out I got completely drench by the rain and my feet got soaking wet.........I was at a meeting so I stayed this wet for about 4 hours.........
My feet hurt when I got home and finally changed. My hurt is at the buttom ball ( the bone right under my big toe) and really no where else. you know that "flat feeling" you get when you walk too much........I am definitly gonna hit the store later and find some coolmax........
as well as glide, my arms were rubbing against my body and that began to hurt too.......

thanks all

Tickets...............

that is the number I called as well..... and as I said they were very knowledgable about many things except these tics in particular.......I hate to be a synic (<-----spelling? )
(lol) but she didnt know exactly what I was tlaking about, I had to read what I was looking at and as I mentioned she kind of rationalized the mararthon being a meeting or convention.........I think we can all agree it is but what I mean is she defined to me ( about a hugh amount of people coming for one reason) and then kinda came up with the anwser "yes" you can use them...... thats what makes me nervous.........
But i did talk to hubby last night and he said I should just chill out and buy them....if worse came to worse and we were there and there was a problem.....Disney is so good about customer service they would ( and i am so persistant...lol) it would all work out.........
SO I think I'll buy them......

However, i will wait till you post about what they said to you lol.......Just to be sure one more time.lol :D

Great training everyone! Embarrassed to say I have done nothing so far this week, the cold dark weather is putting a crimp in my routine. Today I will walk!
I also need to know the final answer on the convention tickets. I do have 3 logos, I guess they're done. How do I post them? I like the idea of meeting at the Ws and where else will there be mini-meets? Have a great thursday!

Good morning everyone! This thread has been busy today!!!

I have a friend that bought the tickets through the convention site. I'll find out what she did, but I think she might have used WISHWalkers as her convention, which then allowed her to have the dates she needed open for the tickets. She ordered them, but I'm not sure if she got them in the mail yet. I'll let you know when I find out.

Hi all!
It's still been a slow week with training (best laid plans...). Today I'm definitely going to the mall to walk while the kids are at school. While I'm there I need to do some Christmas shoping for my grandmother. My mom helps her with shopping for everyone else, but Nana refuses to let Mom take her when she's buying something for her (my mom). She's a real rip! She'll be 85 in a couple weeks, and only retired from her part time job two years ago. She's only now (barely) beginning to admit that her mobility is diminishing. She's beginning to use the walker we bought her last year and is admitting that shopping alone is too much for her. However, her vanity is completely in tact. She never leaves the house without her makeup on, her hair done, and the proper jewelry to go with her outfit. She'd probably be appalled by the way I leave the house sometimes. We are truly blessed to have her in our lives. I'll pick up a few things for her to give Mom and wrap them for her too.

Saturday I'm planning on walking a little over 5 miles. My route around my neighborhood measures out to be 4.35 miles. This weekend I'm going to try doing a warmup mile that I don't time and then do the 4.35 timed. I'll let you know how it goes.

Dawn

Hey everyone- I talked to my friend and here's the scoop on the tickets.

If you look on the front page left hand column towards the top- it says " Tickets onlyvalid for 10 days from 1st use. First use must be by December 30, 2005."

So- Even though the official dates typed in on the site may be from Jan. 6-10, you can still use them beyond those dates, as long as it is within the 10 day limit from 1st use. Also note, that if you don't use them in January, they are good until Dec. 30, 2005. My friend says her tickets have no dates printed on them at all. I ordered a 3 day PH today and it said it would arrive by Dec. 16th- so you may not want to wait too much longer if you need them for Christmas.

WOOOO HOOOOO! I'm booking mine tonight!!!!

Edited to add: If they ask for a group name.....shall we use WISH WALKERS, like your friend did? When I called the Disney Meeting 321-939-7129 number they said you had to be part of a booked resort convention/meeting. I'm not concerned about that, if they are letting anyone who makes it to that site buy tickets and the tickets don't look any different that regular hoppers I'm going for it.

If you go to the link that was provided on this thread (by whomever provided it!) you shouldn't need to use a group name. It takes you right where you want to go. Evidentally the fact that you are going to be in the marathon is enough to get you these tickets according to others- right?

Thanks for the good news, Karen! I am buying those convention tickets as well. Especially after the info I read on the Mousesavers.com. It seems those become available to the ticket brokers at times as well.

Lisa, thanks for the AP suggestion. That is our typical thought process. However if I purchase an AP now, I will have a different expiration date from my family and we always get 2 trips out of our APs. Very cost effective that way.

Now, I would like to take a moment, if you would be so kind...
I was ROCKING today!! :cool1: WOO HOO!! Today was my 8 mile walk. I tried a new trail - it was a bust because it was an actual *hiking* trail - with hills! STEEP hills! :scared: I didn't get very far before I decided to need to go back to my typical walking path of a 4 mile loop.

It was cool/cold and very windy at times, but.... I finished 8 miles in 2 hours and 14 minutes!!! :earseek: That time includes my warm up, stopping at the van to get a new water bottle, blow my nose and grab some tissue, and picking up and putting my radio back together! Over half of the last mile was walking straight into a terrible wind (I was at 2 hrs 2 mins at 7.5 miles). I am SO excited!! Before that last .5 miles, I had a 16.26 mph pace! Including that last section, I maintained 16.75 mph pace!

Some things I noticed
.... I had a full Black Cherry Almond Clif bar 25 mins before starting (this will probably end up being my breakfast on THE DAY). Every 30-40 mins, I had another 1/2 bar. For the last 30 min push, I sucked down a Vanilla Bean GU. Not sure if GU gave me the kick I needed. I was feeling pretty tired but that wind was a huge factor. I will have to try GU again because it is easier to carry (smaller).
.... I was walking alone and having a radio made a HUGE difference! DUH on me for not bringing one before.
.... (this is terrible BUT it worked for me) PASSING people helps! LOL! ::yes:: This was a first for me. I am the one typically getting passed. Today I passed THREE people!! Granted they were all 15-20 years older than me.... I didn't want to catch to someone and then end up walking next to them in uncomfortable silence, so I would get close, pick my moment and GO FOR IT! I didn't want to pass them and have them pass me back, so I kept the speed on for a nice little distance and then resumed my usual pace. I see this being a huge tool for me on THE DAY. I will just pick a body and say, I am going to pass that person!

It's all coming together!! All of the hard training is paying off! :jumping4: :cool1: :jumping4: (Can you tell I am a little excited? :hyper: )
