Also - welcome rkandmjsmommy (Denise) to our little group - she posted a thread asking ?s about the marathon, so I told her to head on over to see us!

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, This was so sweet!!!!!! Thanks so much!!!!

Well a little about me. I am 29 married to Steve with 2 great kiddies, Rachel who will be 6 Jan 11(in Disney for the 2nd year in a row) and Matthew who will be 2 in a few weeks. I am starting Nursing school in Sept and cant wait to got to disney in January!!!

I am currently Low carbing and would LOVE to do the 1/2 marathon, I love donald so what a GREAT medal, and I just want to accomplishment. I need to continue to exercise so maybe committing to the marathon will help.

I currrently walk/jog on a treadmill but I guess I need to get outside too? Anyone have a Training schedule they use to help them?

You all seem SO GREAT, I cant wait to get to know you

I havent signed up for the marathon yet, still a little scared but I think if I stick around here I will be convinced:0)

I ran 1.5 miles and walked another 1.25 miles on the TM this morning.

rkandmjsmommy- Welcome to WISH and the Marathon thread!! I am currently only training on a treadmill too, and eventually I will need to go outside and run/walk.

Ashley- For the breathing thing.........AnnieT posted in another thread about how her trainer said to watch how she breathes. To make sure she is doing it from the diaphragm and not her chest. Since then, I have been trying to figure out the difference. I think most of the time I seem to be breathing out of the chest and it is probably making me more tired than I need to be. Kind of like you are spending so much energy breathing the wrong way. I want to do some research and see if I can find an actual HOW TO breathe when you run so that I can practice. I think it might help relaxing while running too. Sort of like meditation.

mishoe01- I can't wait till DH finishes the basement so I get TV downstairs. I get so totally bored staring at the basement wall and out a little window. I can't see nothing but my garden out that window anyway. Music helps, but its still boring. All I think about is how many more minutes or dots on my treadmill to finish my running time.

Trola- Great job on the 57 minute walk. I didn't get up early enough this morning either, so I only got to do about 35 minutes.

Krista- I have a pedometer, but I always forget to wear it. I plan on running and walking the marathon.

Karebear1- Thanks for the info about the stories from the DVC board. I am going to go take a peak!

Have a great day everyone!

I don't want to sound weird or anything like that.... but I sure love you guys! You make me feel so good about what I am doing. Thanks for your support!
:grouphug: Karebear you are so sweet and spoke for the whole lot of us!

oh my gosh where have I been???? i hate it when life gets in my way of disboarding!

I jogged my 3 miles for the third time this week -- i'm avg about 10 - 10:30 min/mile pace. i'm not stressing about time yet. I'm still finishing going ohgracious -- i'd have to do that THREE more times!! the article was very inspiring though, thanks KB for sharing that. I too will be weeping and sappy i'm sure. someone asked about combo walk/jog and that is a very real option for me. I'm not overwhelming myself with a committment to run the whole 13.2 if I'm not up to it, i'll jog how far I can (hopefully 7-9 miles) and then walk the rest of the way if need be. The Contemporary hill??:scared:

I had an interesting visit with my foot doc today. I'm getting new orthotics in a couple weeks and when I get them I am to only WALK until I can walk two miles pain-free. He said with them i'll relieve some of my overused muscles and use some underused ones and it may be sore at first. oh yippy skippy -- can't wait for that:snooty:

i'm so proud of everyone here we are doing a super great job!!!:jumping1:

Ashley -- if you were sending AlreadyexcitedGrammy the same workout you sent me -- don't worry about it. I'll copy it for her when she is at my house tomorrow!

Happy Friday everyone!! It's the weekend!! Friday is my day off of training and I eagerly anticipate my "long" walk tomorrow!!

Monica, Good for you on relocating to Orlando. I'm as far from Orlando (NorthWest) as you can be and still be in Florida. So..although I'd love to meet you for training and dinner, it's just a tad too far.<sigh> But, when are you relocating? We'll be down for our family trip in November! I look forward to hearing about your Night of Joy trip!!

Welcome Denise, I know there are at least a few of us that are planning to be walkers. I haven't read all the thread yet, but Karen posts her training schedule and that is really helpful! Cool to take your DD to Disney for her birthday!! We did that in Feb with my 4yo DD and I'd do it again in a heartbeat...

Ashley, LOL at "run to that man"....lol and all this time I've been running to telephone poles and stop signs. I see the error of my ways!! Now I know what the motivation is for RUNNING!lol

::yes::

Melanie, good job on the running AND TM'ing

ohMom, at least you are getting your new orthotics NOW and not in NOV!! You have plenty of time to get used to them.

Ok...that's it today. Hubby's car is in the shop and I have to drive to town (almost an hour each way) to pick him up from work, and then we have to go back tomorrow to pick up the truck. He's worried about transportation and I'm worried about getting my walk in!lol. I think he has his priorities all wrong!!

Hello everyone!

I wasn't going to run tonight - because I came home from seeing Harry Potter at 7:00. ( I took 19 of my students and their parents) it was great!
Anyway, I came home and read all your posts about how far you all ran today and it motivated me (out of jealousy) to go for a 3 mile walk/run. So thanks everyone.

WELCOME DENISE! It's fun meeting new people. I like your screen name too!

Beth - Good luck with the car situation. Will everything be fixed by tomorrow?

Ashley - Lovin' the run to the man idea (however when Eric (DH) is with me - I can't make it that obvious.

Mishoe01: I agree with you about walking and seeing how far I can jog. I did more tonight than I have in awhile. I want to get a pedometer too, to see how far I actually am going.

Okay 22 days until Disney!:earseek:

I did my 2 miles today in 41:35. A bit slower then usual- but I'm not worried- just happy to get it done! I could tell my blood sugar was low because by the end of the walk, I felt like a car running out of gas! It just got slower and slower- was kinda funny! Anyway- tomorrow is my long awaited day off- and then Sunday I have to walk 4 miles! 4 MILES!!! I just don't know if I can walk all that way at once- so I'm gonna have to psyche myself up for that. I need all the encouragement I can get you guys- so PLEASE - load it on!

Krista- I'm so proud of you for walking 3 miles when you hadn't planned on walking at all! That is so great- and I guess sometimes jealousy can be a GOOD thing! I just think it's cool to come here and read that about you. It is kind of a lonely feeling when you come here and read the thread and you don't have anything to add or post about. I totally understand that. Usually on my days off I'll post, but it won't be because I walked! I'll do like Beth and comment and cheer everyone else on! Cheering is veyr important- but maybe I can incorporate both into my plan on my days off.

Mom- your pace is very encouraging. You will be more then ready and I'm positive you will probably be running most of this marathon. I'm hoping to do a combvo as well, but it'll be more alonmg the lines of running 10 steps- walking 5000 ! As a matter of fact- I'm thinking about taking a trip prior to the marathon to see where I can stash my :moped: so I can do a few secret miles on it! (maybe right wround that hill you were talking about! :p )

Melanie- Good work on the TM- keep it up girl!

rksandmjsmommy- WELCOME ABOARD! We're so happy to have another WISHWalker in the group. Many of us have just barely started training. I've been training for almost 2 months now and have gone from 20 minutes a day/3 times a week to 220 minutes of walking /weeking- anywhere from 1-4 miles day! My program is intentionally slow- and has been given to me by a marathon trainer that works with amatuers and professional athletes. If you would like to follow my plan, just let me know and I can email or pm this weeks schedule to you. Patti (my coach) has told me that this plan will get me through the half marathon- so I knopw I'll be abel to do it when it's time.

Ash- I was impressed with your times the first time you posted them! Girl- you gotta give you little self some credit! Now- say this to yourself 5 times - "I am a wonderful runner...." Go ahead- Say it! :teeth: BYU is in Provo, Utah - that's where my DD Alissa is. She will be in her Junior year and is studying to get her teaching degree. She's majoring in History. What's your story morning glory????

Mishoe- I've TRIED reading on the treadmill- WHAT A JOKE!!! Can anybody really read while they're bouncing up and down?!?!? If so- more power to 'em! I wish I could do it- but it just doesn't work for me. I usually watch tv or listen to music.... and SOMETIMES I watch TV and listen to music! Yep. that's right! Now that closed captioning is on, it's amazing what you can do!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

BETH- Is your house haunted!?!?!?

I just got a little note in the mail from Ashley- and it's going up on my inspiration wall. THANKS ASHLEY! You're such a sweet heart!

I like to send notes, so don't think it will be the last one!

Just an FYI for everybody... Don't feel left out if you didn't get one! I sent them to the first five people to send me their roster information.

Karen- I am also getting my teaching degree, I student teach in the fall in St. Paul, MN. I did a social studies minor and a Spanish minor to go with it. Kind of along the lines of Alissa's history minor. I'll have finished my student teaching by the time the marathon rolls around, so my 3 weeks in Disney is really a GRADUATION present! WAHOO!

Anyway, I gotta go do some pilates. This is my first time doing this tape. I'll let ya'll know how my cross training day goes.

Ashley

WOW! I just did that tape! Crunch's Fat Burning Pilates. It was easy to follow, and a few times I got quite challenged! This is my cross training day, and I bought it the other day for this purpose, and it is exactly what I was looking for! I will also have my FIRM tapes back next week. All kinds of exercise can be had here!! I am really hoping to kick this weight off this summer.

I do have a question for those of you with kids...

I am a nanny for two kids, boy 10, girl 12. Their house is full of things like pizza rolls, sugary cereal, bologna, and 1% milk, things I am trying to do without. I am there from 7:30-4:30 every day with the kids, and eat breakfast and lunch with them. Should I be packing my own lunch, or is the fact that "meals included" factors into my wage, should I be requesting items? Last summer I worked there and seh asked what kinds of lunch meat and cereal I liked and stuff like that, but this year she hasn't asked. I feel bad giving her requests, but I don't want her to feel guilty by having me bring my own food. I don't mind bringing a box of my cereal to put in the cupboard each week or stuff like that, it just feels awkward. (BYOM? Bring your own milk? meat? munchies?) I just wish there were fruits and veggies and stuff for me to snack on... Let me know what you think!

I know that should have been on the other boards, I just wanted your opinions first, since I know ya'll a little better.

Thanks!
Ashley:wave2:

P.S. Cheryl, I got the magazine! HOW EXCITING! Thanks!

Karebear - I am so proud of you. That's terrific! And please let us know how the 4 miles goes tomorrow. I haven't gotten that far yet. I am nervous because I am definitely not a runner. In fact I always disliked it. In grade school I was on the track team and pretended I was sick at one of the meets so I wouldn;t have to run. (How embarassing:rolleyes: ) Anyway - thanks for the vote of confidence and good luck tomorrow.

Ashley - I understand the thought of not wanting to ask the mother to buy certain foods. (Even though if it is part of your salary) So how about you talk to her about the marathon and ask if she would mind if you brought some snack options over to the house. This is probably what I would do becuase I would feel badly about asking. Then hopefully, (fingers crossed) she would buy them for you. Or maybe you can work it into your schedule to get the kids on a mini-run with you daily and then the snack will follow? This probably doesn't help - but maybe you can get an idea. The best idea is probably to get it out in the open and just ask her!

Krista:earsgirl:

Krista- you are not alone in the faking sick category! I didn't even attend PE in Middle School because my foot always hurt so bad.... and then there were those SHOWERS........... That's another story! Anyway- I'm very surprised that I have kept up with this. I usually have quit by now. But I really believe that having these friends encouraging and cheering me on has been so helpful! You'll be able to do this if you'll just post. Post even if you don't have anything to say but "yeah team!" It has helped get me into a great frame of mind. I know it will do the same thing for you. And don't ever feel like you're behind. I have always been the slowest of everyone here- but they have always kept me going. Their times and distances have always let me imagine what I can do a few months down the road. Like I said before- I started out 2 months ago walking two 10 minute loops every other day- and now I'll be walking 4 miles on Sunday! When I started with the 10 minutes twice a day, I was ok- but then Patti had me walk for 20 minutes straight! My back hurt so bad! Since then- no more back pain, my hip problems have gotten better and (despite my discouragement in this area) my weight has dropped about 15 lbs. I feel good! YOU CAN DO THIS!!

Ashley- you and Alissa have a great deal in common. You'll have to sit and talk to each other in January. She'd love to talk to you about student teaching.
Now- about your food thing. I would just straight out tell her that you are training for a marathon and that you are beginning to become more health conscience about the foods you are putting in your body. then ask her if she would be willing to add those foods to her grocery list the next time she shops. I always buy the bad stuff for my adult aged kids (20, 22, 23) because I know that's what they like. She's probably just doing the same thing. I'm sure she wouldn't be offended if you asked. Just tell her that if it's too much to ask, you'll be happy to provide your own healthy snacks.

hi all!

I've missed too much to even try and catch up! You sure write a lot! :p

Karen, I do want to remind you that you CAN, and WILL walk 4 miles tomorrow! I have complete faith in that--now *you* need to believe it too.

Remember that party you promised me for 7 miles? Well, today I ran 8 miles. Without stopping, in the rain--8 miles. Loved every second!(well, most of them! ;) )

When you're as slow as I am, that gives you plenty of time to analyze things. The more I run, the more I realize that the only thing holding me back from accomplishing anything is my mind. If anyone had told me 6 months ago that I would run 8 miles and enjoy it, I would've said they were insane. But I'm slowly accepting the fact that *perception* was the only thing holding me back. I had decided that I was incapable of doing it. Guess what? I've changed my perception! I am capable of much more than I ever gave myself credit for... at this point I can hear "I am woman, hear me roar..." in my head!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend ladies!

Hi everyone!!

Hope your weekend is going well - yucky weather where I am (since yesterday afternoon), so haven't felt like doing much at all!
I DID do 2 miles tonight tho....after having to talk myself into it.

Ashley - thanks for the card!! I received it yesterday, and I love it! You certainly know how to keep us motivated and geared up, don't you? It's going into my scrapbook for this journey. Way to go trying that Pilates tape - I have the Windsor Pilates set, and need to get back into doing it. It looks easy, but you feel it!! Keep us informed as to what your boss says (about the better foods/snacks). I'm sure she'll understand, and maybe that will help her kids get better eating habits. Got to add that I lol reading about running to a man.....as long as he doesn't think you're stalking him

Karen - way to go with keeping up with the program. I agree with Pixiechick - you WILL do it!! I have no doubts - just make sure to keep listening to your body while you walk.

Krista - 22 days!!! I'm sooo jealous!! I haven't been at DW since last Sept, and I'm going through withdrawl!! I will be there next just shy of 1 year since I was there last :( Don't worry about how you were in high school - I hated to exercise then too (and most of the time now, I like walking on the TM or outside). I can't say that I like other types of exercise, but I'm working on it. I know that Karen and I can attest to the fact that your endurance will increase with time and effort.

Pixiechick - wow!! 8 miles!! Way to go! :rockband: Here's the beginning of your party!

Beth - any news on the car? As for my move to FL - right now it depends on my job - I figure worst case it will be this time, next year but if they decide to downsize at work, that will be moved up. I'll keep everyone informed.

Molli - keep us informed on the orthodics. Did the Dr also give you exercises for getting the underused muscles up to par?

Denise - here's a little info about me - I'm 34, single, no kids/pets, working on trying to lose 50-60lbs. One note on signing up to do the 1/2....don't wait too long if you want to set this goal with us - the 1/2 usually closes (sells out) before the full. You can do it!!

Ok - I know I'm forgetting people, and I'm sorry!!! Please know that you are in my thoughts, tho!!

Have a good night everyone!

I am not a stalker! Although, if I ever catch him, I may just throw my arms around him, hug him, and pray that he has a :moped: so I can quit all this running!

Anyway, I ran my five miles yesterday, plus a half mile warm up and cool down for a total of six miles. WOW. I went to the grocery store afterwards and felt like I could hardly move! I did it in 59:26 for the five miles, which I am happy with. I ran on Park Point, which is a little island? thing that juts out into Lake Superior in the Duluth harbor. It is one street wide with houses on both sides and completely flat. I found that I actually MISSED hills, as they give me challenge and variety. I was so BORED!! The landmarks were always street signs, fire hydrants, and cars. NO MEN ABOUT! It was also a kind of chilly, ugly day. Anyway, just need to do some strength training today and I'll have gone SEVEN DAYS CHEAT FREE! That's ONE WEEK! :hyper:

Hope you are all doing well, too! I love hearing your stories and what motivates you! Keep up the tremendous work!

I have to go get ready for work now. Saw Harry Potter last night, and it actually kind of scared me! Now I have to read the fourth book this summer (with the boy I nanny for) to be prepared for the next movie! Such great books!

Heigh-ho, heigh-ho...

Ashley:wave2:

Hey everyone!

Thanks for the kind words. I have had real crummy weather over the past 2 days so I am going to my good ole' friend Tae-bo. I started in college 4 years ago and lost about 30lbs. I enjoy excercising and I am beginning to "like" running. Ashley - I have had that feeling of hardly being able to walk - it feels good and bad.
Anyway, part of my wanting to run in the marathon (1/2) is because of my past of not being an athlete, I really want to be able to do this, so thank you again to everyone!
I have a question for everyone - I haven't gone to my gym lately because I have been training outside - so I don't do the weights can anyone give me some ideas for arm strengthening without weights?

Also, I have a quick story that I thought you all would appreciate. I was watching the Simpson's (The cartoon) the other day and to make a long story short they were going on a trip to Florida. The family was trying to guess where they were going and they said "Sea World", Universal and Disney World. The person taking them on the trip said NO to all of these. So here's where my problem was when they go to Florida they went to EPCOT - thus not understanding the difference between the theme park name Magic Kingdom and Disney World!! I know it's such a silly thing but I found it funny that a TV show didn't check before they wrote it. So anyway - I often find myself correcting people when they say Disney World and they really mean Magic Kingdom. I guess it's because it was the first park to be made out of the 4 main ones (besides the water parks). Okay thanks for listening my husband thinks I'm cookoo!

Hope you all havea great weekend!

Krista

happy weekend everyone!

ashley -- what is your cheat free star signifying? exercise, eating?? both? ;) I don't know a tactful way to get healthier food varities but if it's a part of your salary I would find a way to bring it up! you are just asking for what you agreed to as part of your pay. mom probably is busy, etc and just doesn't think about it. sounds like they have poor eating habits? maybe you could do the shopping and she can reimburse you?

someone asked about exercises for my underused muscles -- the doc was referring to like the small muscles in my feet so just easing back to jogging, starting with walking, is the way to go

and Kris -- push-ups! that is the BEST arm exercise. how about tricep dips too. both of those are great ones. have you considered one of those pilates stretchy band things? I have one that has four handles, you can step on two and use the other two in your hands and do bicep curls, lateral raises, etc. it's maybe called a resistance band? i see it like at Marshalls/Burlington with the exercise mats, stability balls, etc.

i didn't jog over the weekend, and maybe I can get a walk in this evening. sunday is my day off so i'm not stressing. i'll be up and at it tomorrow morning for sure.

Hi everyone

WOW I've been really busy the last few days and haven't had a chance to get here to WISH and it looks like we've had a lot of activity on this thread and a lot of GREAT training going on! Good work everyone!

We even have another marathoner that's joined us. Welcome Denise, I'm glad you'll be joining us! My daughter's name is Rachel too. She just turned 10.

I don't have much time to post but thought I'd just try and get here quickly. It is still a busy weekend. I ended up doing my walk/jog on Friday outside for the first time. I took the dog with me and she is a 3 year old chocolate lab with lots of energy but I out lasted her. I had to "drop her off" back at home after an hour because she was worn out. I then went out for another 1/2 hour so I did a total of 90 minutes. I went most of the way on the bike path near our house and the did a little bit through our subdivision. I figure I went somewhere betwenn 5-6 miles so the time was good. I just kept telling myself keep walking fast, now jog to that clump of bushes (didn't see any men, or at least any worth jogging to Ashley). It sure is different walking/jogging on the HARD pavement and packed bike path. My legs were really stiff and sore yesterday and they are still pretty sore today. I am still debating if I should just make this another rest day or if I should try and do a slow easy walk tonight to keep things moving. I know that I won't have time to exercise tomorrow so if I don't do anything today that means I miss 3 days in a row. I think the next time I walk outside I am just going to walk fast and not as long and slowly ease into the jogging and distance outside. I am glad I found this out early in the training how much harder it is on my body to go like that outside then it is on the shock absorbing treadmill. Now I know I definitely need to be training outside to get my body used to what we will be walking on at the marathon.

karebear Did you do your 4 miles today yet? YOU CAN DO IT! You go girl! That is exciting that your daughter will be joining us for the marathon!

Ashley I got the training plans in the mail. Thank you and thanks for the encouraging notes!! I think I will probably order the book, like you've been recommending, when we get back from Hilton Head. I'm glad you got the magazine. Did I read you will be at Disney for 3 weeks for the marathon? That sounds WONDERFUL.

Krista I know what you mean about people referring to the MK as Disney World. I work with someone like that and I keep correcting her too. I often wonder what she thinks the rest pf Disney World is. LOL

Keep up the great work everyone!

Cheryl

Well Saturday was a wash. I had such good plans to get up and do some serious exercising in between taking DS to a bike rodeo and a fundraiser with the local fire company. Then DH decided we had to go to the mall in between having to be back home by 5pm for a friend of DD's to come over so we could go out to Dinner and the movies.

DH took me RING shopping for my anniversary! OMG I was so shocked. I got the most beautiful solitare with another ring as a wrap. It will be ready for me to pick up on Friday night. I still am in shock ! It turned out to be a GREAT reason to take a rest day.

Today I did upper body and some lower body video's.

I will run/walk Mon/Wed/Fri this week.

Everyone is doing such a great job!

Thought I'd better post for the week before a new thread is started.

Thanks Karen for the pm. I'm still here and have read some of the thread this week but did not have enough time to post. Do you all have enough time in the day?:p

I did 2.25 2x this week (walked) and yesterday as it rained all day, I visited dm so I could use her tm. I did 4 miles in 63 min. I felt great however I don't think I could have pushed too much further. I listened to a great fast paced cd and kept telling myself that you Wishers were doing it and I could too. Does anyone else talk to themselves? like pushing yourself with sayings such as go girl, move that booty, etc? I don't speak out loud just in my mind. Do you do that too? or am I a little weird.

I have much more training to go but want to thank you girls for all the motivation:wave:

My saturday plan didn't happen, but I moved it to today. Got in 4.8 miles walking this morning. Not as fast as need be, but getting there, right? But I do have to share that I started walking about 1 year ago as part of my regular routine. I couldn't walk 0.6 at a time, much less a whole mile, so I am pleased with that. I remind myself that even if the sweeper gets me, I have come so far and in that, I have already won. But, I won't let the sweeper get me if I can avoid it!!lol

BTW, Hubby's truck is fixed and back on the road. Thanks for asking. Just a big pain when you live far from everything and although I may have no place to go, I like to know I can!!lol ;) Thanks for asking!

KAREN, How did your 4 mile walk go? I have a hard time getting through the first 2, but then after that I could go a little longer, I think. But I was glad to get to the end of my walk today!! We're almost on the same program now. You have come very very far in a short time! Is my house haunted? Some would say yes. You come and make your own evaluation. ::yes:: BTW, we are too much alike. I laughed about your PE experience because I NEVER took a PE class. Not a single minute of it. No believes I was able to do that, but I did it.

Ashley, great profession to go into! I always wanted to be a teacher. I was an education major for one semester...until my parents found out and said no way. But that is a long story! I thought Krista's and Karen's suggestions about the food at the nanny job were excellent. I don't think your boss would be upset with either way you talked to her. Certainly do mention the marathon, though! One week cheat free!! :rockband:

Pixie, sounds like you are doing awesome!!
:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Monica, Hope the weather clears! Good for you on getting in 2 miles when you didn't want to!! :umbrella:

Krista, you are so right. Often people say magic kingdom and disney world interchangeably. I guess we're just so used to differentiating between all the parks that it seems weird and we just refer to the whole as Disney. Or in 4yo talk, Nidsey. ::yes::

Cheryl, I hadn'tthought about the difference between road work and TM work!! I'm looking at getting at TM this fall, but I should probably try to keep most of my time outdoors? Thanks for the good points raised! :D

Melanie! Congrats on the ring!! How many years? I'm sure it makes you feel like a princess!! princess:

Have a great week, everyone!!
~~Beth
