New week, new thread! I think this is what we decided!

I will start it off with a little dose of motivation:

"If you want to become the best runner you can be, start now. Don't spend the rest of your life wondering if you can do it."

-PRISCILLA WELCH, British Olympic marathoner and, at the age of 42, Winner of the 1987 New York City Marathon-

Keep it up, everybody! If you need support, remember that we are all here for you!

I am putting up a new cheat free clippie starting today, let's see how long I can keep it! Anybody else up for the challenge?

Also, please PM me with your information so we can get a team roster together and have a little fun with it! I'm thinking things like support buddies and things like that. So far I have only gotten 3 responses!

Here's the list again, in case anybody forgot!

Sorry I didn't gbet to starting the new thread earlier- Thanks Ashley for starting it for me. I think I'm gonna start posting for the new thread starting Sunday evening- that way those fo you who live on the east coast will haev it ready for you first thing Monday morning!

Well- after a full week of not walking at all due to being sick, I went back to work today and finished my 3 mile walk in 60:17. I feel pretty good about that time for 2 reasons- first- I thought it would really slow down not walking all week and 2- I actually did all 3 miles at once. Last time I ahd to walk 3 miles, I split it in half.

Congrats to all you walkers that posted for today on last week's thread! I'm so impressed by all of us! We just need to keep going and we'll be ready for the trip!!!

Well, the fog lifted just long enough for me to get out for my 55 minute workout. 4.5 miles in 55 minutes. Not bad, 12:22 mile average. I don't know how to do this accurately, though, since that includes a warm up and cool down, 5 minutes each. Either way, I'm happy with that time, it will work in the marathon!

The route I went today was very hilly, and I've forgotten since my track days (6 years ago) what it was like to run hills!! We used to go down to the Mississippi River and do "Lock and Dam" and it was HARD! Just up and down. At the start of the season it was 8 times, by the end we had to do 20ish. It was nuts, and it always made us grateful for boring old track workouts. If you ever want to feel really crappy the next day, but really good on your next workout, RUN HILLS! Oooh...they are so much fun!

Keep it up! Send me your info!!

Ashley

Hi there everyone!! Happy Memorial Day!!

Ashley - sent you 2 pm's.

Ok - I read on the other post a ? about how much we have to lose - I'm still working on about 60 lbs (I won't complain with 50 tho). At this point I'm just struggling with 5 :(

Hope everyone's weekend has been good - training wise, and other wise.

I ended up doing 2.6 miles on the TM on Sat (1 mile in the AM, 1.6 in the PM). Did 3 miles yesterday, and will be jumping onto the TM once I'm done here - aiming for 4 miles today.

Haven't done well at all this weekend with the food....chocolate cake, chips, nachos....but tomorrow is a new day, and I will be back on plan. :D

TTFN!

Up to four people on my little list! Special prize for the fifth person to send me a PM with their info!!! :hyper:

well though it still feels like the weekend -- I got my jogging in today - in the drizzle even :) This week I graduated to 30 mins straight jogging with 1 mile walk warm-up and cool-down. It actually went pretty well

though I have to say I kick myself -- i jumped on the scale this morning and I'm up to a uncomfortable high weight now -- 10 lbs from goal! I WI at 145 this morning and haven't seen that since the holidays! I'm not eating well on the weekends, not horrid, but I ate over my FP this weekend again. i start my days out well and by dinner time i've decided to start over the next day until it's monday and i'm bummed. this is probably the wrong thread for this.............can I have some cheese with my whine??

that will be the last one for awhile that is after 7:00 PM. I am thinking that ohmom and I are taking this mother/daughter thing a bit too far when we both are "off track" at the same time!

Tomorrow I am a SERIOUS WW point counter again and limiting my carbs and sugar intake and back to some positive "talking to myself" - no negative thoughts allowed.

Also, walking in the AM and Curves after work for me - for training. I want to get a program to follow and stick with it for training, until then I will just do treadmilling along with Curves.

Tara - so glad to see you have joined us - I haven't posted since I read that you are "here" too!

I'm off to respond to LittleMissMickey - I want to be on her "list" :p

I got in my 5 miles in 75 min. again today! My legs were feeling pretty tired at the beginning and I was having a hard time with the jogging at first but then as I got into it more I started feeling better and I got the 5 miles in at the average 15min./mile pace (this includes my warm up and cool down) that I've been doing for the past week. I plan on doing these 5 mile walk/jogs for another week or 2 and then I'm going to bump up to 6 miles.

Karen Great job getting in your 3 miles all at once and at such a good pace, especially after being sick. I'm glad you're feeling better!

Ashley Wow, a 12:22 mile average is great! I am hoping that by the marathon I can do a 12 min mile. We'll see. I'm going to have to start getting outside, if it ever stops raining here, and start trying some hills. The incline on my treadmill is broken so I can't use that.
I was planning on starting over my cheat free bear tomorrow, June 1, so I'll join you in that challenge. The week of June 12-19 will be hard because we will be on vacation on Hilton Head Island, but I'll do my best.

I didn't do too good with my eating this weekend either. It sounds like a few of us have the same problem where we start out the day or the week with good intentions but by the end of the day we're saying I'll start again tomorrow. Maybe somehow we can try and support and motivate each other out of that pattern. So mishoe01, ohMom and Grammy lets jump back on track with our food plans tomorrow! We can do this!

Am I weird in that I like running best on vacation? When we go to Disney, I actually enjoy getting in a little run around the resort (especially at Old Key West). Are you staying at DVC on Hilton Head? We have points there, although I have never been. Let me know what it is like! DBF is currently VERY into golf, he might want to go there sometime. Cheryl, You sure are doing a lot of travelling around this summer! I'm jealous!

Ashley:wave2:

This will be our first trip to Hilton Head and no we're not staying at the DVC property :( but a different condo. I do want to go look at the Disney property (DD and I might have to sneak over there because DH will be afraid that I'll be tempted to buy again LOL) I am really looking forward to going to Hilton Head and it sounds like a great beach for walking and biking so I am going to try and keep as active as possible when we are there!

Cheryl

TAKE ME WITH YOU! Or, as I see in your signature, I would gladly board that Cruise Ship with you... I WANT TO VACATION!
Ashley:wave2:

Good morning everyone!!

Today is a new day!!! Back on plan!

I managed to do 4 miles yesterday - not great with the time, but am building up consecutive mileage, so not too upset about the time yet (23 min mile).

Didn't feel like attempting to run yesterday, so just walking.

Hope everyone's day is off to a good start!

I can't believe how much everyone posted yesterday! i thought for sure we w ould all be a bunch of bums and totally negelect our workouts because it was a holilday! I guess you showed me!

I haven't walked yet, but will do my 1 mile today as soon as I am finished posting.

Monica- good for you with the 4 mile trip! WOW! Aren't you impressed with yourself? It really was just a few short weeks ago we started to walk and look at you now! 4miles at once!!! YIPPEEEE!!!!! :thewave: :thewave:

Cheryl- WTG on your repeat performance of 5 miles in 75 minutes (including warm ups and downs)!! Go you ever dread getting out to run for that amount of time? Sometimes, when I have to walk 3 miles it's all I can do to do it because it takes so much time! I think if I could go faster I'd be happier to do it, but I can't run yet and my walking is so slow (at least to me it is) that I sometimes don't really wnat to do it- I just want to get it over with! I sure hope that feeling goies away at some point because I really want to do this half marathon- and 13 miles is a whole lot further then 3!

Monica, Ohmom, Grammy and Cheryl- while I have been doing well with the eating aspect of thigns, I'm still am not losing any weight. I lost 5 lbs last week, only to gain it back when I stopped taking the meds because i was so sick! I'm not really sure what to do about this, but, I ma going to try to eat a more Atkins like diet this week a nd see if the weight will start to come back off. Jane, my dietician will be ok with that if that's what I want to do. It seems as though whenever I eat anything that has flour, rice or sugar in it it totally stops my progress. Maybe if I can drop another 20 lbs the Atkins way, my insulin resistence will disappear and then I'll be able to eat regualr foods? Does anyone have any experience with this? Anyway..... I'm rededicating myself as well this week. Let's all report here to see how we're doing ok?

Ashley - your times are fantastic! You'll be ready no doubt to do this half marathon. I'm sending you a pm now!

Good luck today everyone!

I forgot to mention in my last post that I am now thinking about going to WDW in Oct. and doing the 10K they have there. I was thinking that it would be a good warm up for the half. BUT you have to be able to do a 15 min mile! Has anyone done the 10K before? Do they really stick to that time?

A few people have posted that they don't want their info from the database shared on the boards. I will send it to the email addresses given when database info is sent to me. I will not send it to people not on the thread or to people who do not submit their information to the database. Does this sound okay? Just wanted to clarify!

I wish it was a pretty day here, we haven't had one in awhile.

I will be busy with school in October, otherwise I would love to do that 10K! I am very nervous!

When I talk about my times, I get all confused. I did track about 6 years ago, and my race was the mile. I don't like seeing my 12:22 mile because I forget that my PRs were in ONE MILE RACES, not five mile workouts. So, it's weird to see my time be double what it was. Does this make sense? I just get confused, and then I feel bad for letting myself get so badly out of shape. (I've put on 25-30 pounds since those days, which I plan on getting rid of before I go to Disney World in December, preferably before I student teach in September!) Anyway, I jsut wanted t opost why sometimes I seem discouraged over a well...pretty decent time! I need to be more positive on myself!

Thanks for listening to me vent...

POURING rain here and the whole week looks bad weather-wise!! I'm and outdoor walker, so keep your fingers crossed that I can hit the not-so-dusty trail again soon!!

Congrats to all of you on your times and distances!! Isn't it exciting to see our distances increase and our times drop a little?

I'm with you guys on rededicating. Gotta get back to a strict plan, but I got my meals planned Sunday and groceries bought yesterday. That is such a chore. I cook for 7+ every day and sometimes it just gets tiring!! But there is healthy food in the house again, so I have no excuses. Right??

Have a great day everyone!!

:drinking1 DON'T FORGET YOUR WATER!

Hey Beth-
Is that water that the little guy is drinking, or is that a WISHWalker at a post marathon party?! Just kidding... He is very cute! And I'm with you on that outdoor walking thing, isn't it hard to get out there on these ugly days?!
Ashley

I did my mile today- 20:36. I've noticed then when i walk a longer distance the day before the 1 miler, that the 1 miler is slower... I'msure it will change though!

Want some inspiration?!?!?? read this-

www.jimhillmedia.com/articles/guest/schneid.01292004.1.htm

The Thrill of Victory! The Agony of Da Feet (and calves and the ankles...)

You will love it! If she can do it- WE CAN!!!!!

Karen-
I read the article, and I CRIED! I usually cry when I read things about the WDW Marathon now. I realize how important it is in my life right now. I am deciding to make myself and my life better, and that was the factor that got me so motivated to do so! I cry when I realize how magical it is going to be, like when people talk about running through the castle, the starting fireworks, the people they see running it, and crossing the finish line. These are the things taht motivate me. I never really thought I would be here, and now here I am! I'm so excited to get my Donald medal that I want to do the FULL marathon next year just to have a Mickey one, too! Am I nuts?!
