Marathon training check in thread

Hi everybody! I'm still sick! Do you know how hard is to read this thread when you can't jump up and exercise?::yes::

Actually, I am feeling better today, and will spend a bit of the day outdoors at least. I'm trying to decide if paddling around in the swimming pool (don't laugh, it will be 100 degrees here today) might be a good way to ease my achy body back into some movement...I can always follow up with a nap on the paito ;)

I like the idea of a training t-shirt, so count me in for an iron-on (no slam from me Tammy...I've only ever done one once...and it was a little lopsided :hyper: ) Karebare1, I'll PM you with my address.

Mishoe01, I'll e-mail you a photo...I love playing with my scanner...it will, of course, be a 'before' shot! PM me your e-mail address.

You know, I'm think'n I need to make a spread-sheet to keep track of all of you, especially if some of us are exchanging addresses and the like. I need the practice, as my computer skills are nominal! That's a good project to do while I'm still feeling 'off'.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Good morning all!! 40 minutes walk for me today. Lots to do. I work tonight, and will do my 2 week grocery shopping after that.

OH, and we CAUGHT A SNAKE ON OUR PORCH this morning. Actually my neighbor caught it because he saw I was going to hit it with a shovel and he loves snakes. Says he'll "keep it for awhile". Gee...thanks...wish he hadn't seen me. Wasn't poisionous, but is that really the point?? I'm sure I must have lost some pounds over the scare!! lol

Bev, what a great inspiration your hubby is!! You must be very proud of him.

Karen- I love the tshirt idea!! I'm not very creative, but surely I could handle an iron on!!lol Count me in and keep track of your expense so we can all pay for our ironons!

Tammy I did curves a few years ago and really enjoyed it when I went. Good for you on doing that!! I wish there was one here in the boonies, but it's probably an hour's drive for me. (Just like Walmart!)

Jackie- hope you are feeling better. If you feel up to the pool, I say go for it. I agree, I'm going to have to come up with a chart or something!!

Have a great day everyone!

I need everyone's help- I feel like I am floundering in the weight loss department. I've lost nothing the past 2 weeks- and my loss was so slow before that, that now I am feeling discouraged. I haven't been eating well in the last 3 days- although I have been walking. I haven't gained any weight back yet, but I know that if I continue- I'll fall off the path real fast. PLEASE YOU GUYS..... I know this thread is for marathon training- but you're all my friends and I need some up lifting thoughts and ideas on how you all get past this phase - I don't want to slip back to unhealthy ways. Any advice out there?

Hi everyone!! Hope everyone's Saturday has been a good one.

Karen - first to you my dear....please don't feel discouraged about slow or no weightloss - it doesn't always register on the scale - it may register more in the inch department. You are doing amazingly well with the exercising, so I have NO doubt that it will show up on the scale soon. I'm so proud of everthing that you are doing, and I'm sorry you're feeling down. I have struggled with not seeing the scale change at all too, but I've tried (still trying) to not focus so much on the numbers but on how my clothes fit (I even took out my WISH banner b/c I gained back the weight I lost :( ). Please know that you are cared for on this board, and that PD is coming your way :wizard:

I also love the t-shirt idea/iron-on (which I've never done either:teeth: ) and would reimburse you for your expense.

ibouncetoo - sending you a PM with my email and address info - I like your idea of the spreadsheet - would not mind having everyone's addresses as well (you never know when something will come to you by snail mail ;) )

Alreadyexcitedgranny - sending you a PM w/ my email info too (for the pic)

Almost forgot to let you guys know my news from yesterday!! I walked on the TM for 1hr and 15min!!! I was shocked!!! Total of 20138 steps!! Also went to the shoe store today and bought my 1st pair of marathon shoes (Saucony) - I was told that this style is not going anywhere any time soon, so I can wait a few months before buying pair nbr 2.

Please take care of yourselves - both physically and mentally, and remember that we're all in this together!!!

Karen, girl, what can I saw other than hang in there. You are doing so great and you have to remember, too that you are building muscle as you are trimming up, so that would also contribute to no loss showing on the scale. BUT, are you able to walk a bit longer now? Are you clothes feeling better? How is your energy level? I know you are improving!! I've been actively on WW for a year. It has taken me SIX months to lose 7 pounds. But, I will make it to my goal eventually and I'm getting healthier with every step along the way, just as you are!

You know, just think how awesome you are for TRAINING FOR A MARATHON!! Keep up the spectacular job you are doing for yourself and also for being the glue on this thread. You are always such a positive person and I appreciate all your efforts!!

Sometimes a couple days off a program can jolt your system into starting to lose again. Jump back on the wagon and see what happens now at the next stop.

Have a great Sunday!

Thanks for all the recent advice
and Karebear thanks for the breathing advice - I know I need to breathe, but for some reason I still get stitches
I have been oonly training for a few weeks - so I have been trying different breathing techniques.

I found that if I breathe with my mouth open and push more air on the exhalation I seem to be able to do more.

I ran my first REAL mile under 12 min. I have always disliked running I do any other excercise I can (i.e yoga, olypter (sp?) stairs) but now I am focused.
Everyone here is so great. Thanks
Still trying to get my husband on the band wagon!
He's a runner, but he thinks I want to run in Jan - just to go to Disney (which may be part true)

Hey Karen:

I understand the weight loss problem. The best thing is to focus on the positive. YOU KEPT WALKING. Now it's even more important to think about what you learned from how you feel after you slip up a little. Remember you can go back to eating correctly - you can do it. You have enough spirit in you to try and you have enough in you to write about it - so you slipped up a little. Just focus on what you are doing correct and you should be able to get back into the correct cycle!

Okay - I am sending major ((((((((~~~~PD~~~~))))))) surrounded with HUGS!!!!!! Come talk to us and don't give up! I am wondering if you are the person who needs the metabolic tune up that Curves book talks about. I have the pages scanned and will send them to you. May just be something in there that "hits" ya and makes sense.

I think tho that NativeTx would say - don't forget to measure (I know someone else said it in this thread too) very good advice ;)

You will get through this and be on your way downward in no time.

It will happen - visualize yourself getting thinner and just tell yourself "I can do this" and keep those positive thoughts going in (then there is NO room for anything negative)

((((((((~~~~PD~~~~))))))) ((((((((~~~~PD~~~~)))))))

Forgot to say that I did get an 8 mile Tmillling walk in this AM ;)

hUGS TO YOU kAREN  I know where you are at and it stinks but we need to get back in the game, keep walking & try to maintain our eating plan and we will lose that xtra baggage plus we will be completing a marathon at the best place on earth:earseek: You can do it::yes:: And I would love a transfer, send me a bill:p I like the theme maybe we can have more than one as we get closer, thoughts?

Beth was that you with the snake- yikes that's 2 lbs per scare;)

Way to go Krista:Pinkbounc a mile under 12 minutes - you go girl:Pinkbounc

I pm'd you Monica - great job on the tm:wave:

I did 3.4 today so my week was a little over 10 hoping to increase that next week to 12 for the week.

Thanks for the motivation!

yOU ARE ALL SO GREAT! I am feeling a little better today (probably has a lot to do with the fact that I hit a low in the weight department today) but I'm afraid it may be a termporary high. Even if it is- I'm thankful to have the relief it provided. This weight loss stuff can get so burdensome sometimes!! It's all I think about- and I need to stop thinking so much about it and just start living. That's what I did the last 3 days- I didn't care what I ate (and that was such a nice feeling- but I know I can't do that all the time..... DARN IT!) or how much I ate- i just ate whatever the heck I wanted to!
Well- anyway- thanks for enduring the temporary insanity of yesterday. Just as I thought- you all helped me get through what has been a very few , very tough days!

Don't have this week's walking schedule yet- but when I get it- I'll post it hear for everyone.

Grammy- I would love that info on the slow metabolism- can you please send it?

hi all ;)

i admit i'm too overwhelmed to backtrack and catch-up reading all the posts! I skimmed a bit though

I started Week 4 of my walk/jog program. My neighbor and I are meeting M/W/F (FYI) and this week we walk about 15 mins to get warmed up, then run 10 - walk 3 - run 10 - walk 3 - run 8 and walk the rest of the way home, usually another 15 mins.

I'm still struggling with my breathing some and just getting to the mental point where I just jog and don't think things like "breath breath breath..........gosh my steps are choppy..........breath breath breath............how much further.........breath breath breath........i'll never catch up with Amy (neighbor)...........if I feel like this after 10 mins how will I EVER run 12 miles!!"

so someone mentioned struggling with this too. Last time I got into some jogging it took me a few weeks to feel like I just went and didn't play the mind games. Watching my stopwatch for the program isn't helping

ok all -- have a great week -- stretch stretch stretch!

Molli,
I am so glad I am not the only one thinking the same thing. I keep having these thoughts of, I hate running, I can't do this, when will it be over etc. I also am not using the treadmill often enough to be effective. One of these days I am going to have to do the TM instead of my morning Cardio Firm Days. I just hate giving those up because I enjoy them and I don't enjoy running.
I ordered a heart rate monitor, so maybe that will help.

I am hoping to get on the TM for some time this evening.

Good am all -

Molli your walk/jog sounds amazing to me, keep up the great job!

Finally bought new sneaks last night, for those who have Dicks sporting goods, there are a saucony brand running shoe 40% off and I love them. I also found the running times June issue with the wdw marathon ad & a new Low carb magazine.

Off to walk:wave2:

OH mom............I feel your pain.............
I think I play the same mind game and I say all those things to myslef in ....well............that exact same order lol..........
Anyway, I know you are walking with someone but I find tha music helps with the mind game!
I still do it but.........when a good song comes on I find myself saying I wont look to see how long its been till this song is over..lol
I am doing something simliar to you,
i run a mile then walk 2 minutes........ then run to mile 2 then walk 2 minutes......
I am up to 4 miles comfortably and have done 5 but only a few times.........
I really have to quit smoking I think to get further.......
(on wellbutrin,,,,, and trying to quit)....
anyway, good luck
