Marathon traffic

Our first day at WDW will be Sat, Jan 6th (the half marathon.) I have heard that traffic in the parks isn't really affected but traffic getting to the parks may be a different story. Has anyone been there for past marathon weekends? We will be staying off site, entering Disney property via us 192 and are thinking about going to MK. We want to be there for the 9am opening. I would normally plan for an hour from hwy 192 (to drive to MK, park, tram, monorail, etc.) Will it take 10-15 mins more or 45-60 mins more because of the marathon traffic?

The triathlon was this past weekend and our 8:35 am Magical Express bus showed up right behind the 9:05 bus. We also had to maneuver around marathon traffic to get on 417 to go back to the airport. We made it to our gate with about 15 minutes to spare before our flight began boarding.

I would plan on a delay, but I'm not sure just how long of a delay.

We have gone down the past 2 years for the marathons and traffic is pretty non-existent until around lunch. Since the runs start so early in the morning--I would see what park the runners go through first and plan to do that park first thing. Last year, I didn't run--bum ankle, but my mom did. It took our bus an hour and 45 minutes to get from OKW to Epcot. Traffic is blocked at some time in all parks and from park to park during these runs. My experience is with the full marathons. I am not sure if the half enters all of the parks like the full does or not. You can look at Disney's wide world of sports website for route maps. This is a great time of the year to go--but traffic on those 2 mornings stinks!!--unless you are on a monorail resort! HTH!! Amanda
