Does anyone know if the marathon will affect checking in to the Fort on Sunday (1/10/10)? We plan on arriving around 1pm.

It's over by 11am - so you should be fine at the Fort. The parks? Well, you'll see a lot of people walking around with metals hanging from their necks - so make sure you congratulate them. The metals mean they finished!! :worship:

Check in will be slower but as long as you have reservations your good to go!! Have fun K.:thumbsup2

Yes, and the day before is the half marathon. If you do both its called Goofy's Challenge.

IIRC, the Marathon starts at 6:00AM. The last wave should pass the start about 6:15-6:20 and that is when the timer starts for the sweep. There is a 7 hour limit so by 12:30 things should be pretty wrapped up. The course never goes close to FW so there is no impact as far as checking-in. In previous years we have always left FW on Marathon Sunday between 10:30 and 11:30 and like I mentioned there were no problems at the plaza.

As long as you do not come in World Drive you should not have a problem with getting to Ft. Wilderness. I would suggest approaching from one of the back ways staying away from World Drive, Epcot Drive and out at Wide World of Sports. The 1/2 on Saturday will use World Drive for most of the event and on Sunday they will use World Drive at the beginning and the end of the marathon.

According to the map I received of the 1/2 and Full Marathons, the impact on World Drive is mile 2 to 3 at the beginning of the Half Marathon, very early AM. The impact will be on the exit side of World Drive for the Full Marathon between mile 6 to 8 1/2 and again that is very early in the AM. The impact on World Drive for mile 21 1/2 to 22 will be later in the AM for the Full Marathon and by that time the participants will be spread out. IIRC, the cones will only take 1 lane of the 3 available for vehicle traffic at that point of the competition.

The actual check-in at FW should not be impacted at all at a 1:00PM.

I thought the marathon started closer to 6 am? Either way, I always recommend avoiding the main entrances and coming in from the "back way" (Exit onto 535, take Hotel Blvd to Buena Vista Dr to Vista Blvd). You miss out on the glory of the huge Welcome to Disney signs at the main gate but you also avoid congestion from park goers.

The races start a little bit earlier this year. The starts are scheduled for 5:40am.
