Hello all!
I had some requests from my friends here and on other boards to post some info on our recent trip to WDW for the Family Fun Run, Kids Race and my first 1/2 marathon run, so here goes!
Cast:
Me (Karen) 34, first time participant in the WDW 1/2 marathon
DH (Tom) 37, first time runner in a 5K
DS (Jacob) 7, first time runner in a kids race
We were psyched for our trip since I registered for the 1/2 marathon last March and really planned out a great trip. Well in advance of the marathon I received a larger planner packet in the mail with my race information, bib number and medical release. The packet was filled with information about the Expo, held at the WWOS complex, and about all the races, meeting places and any other info needed before the race started.
DH & DS decided they wanted to be part of the fun so they signed up for the 5K and the 400 yard dash, respectively. In addition to the race packet, I got lots of info in the form of emails from the marathon people with basic information, and links to sites of interest. You could also purchase marathon items (clothing items, watches, etc..) beforehand with the info from the packet.
The info also included links to purchase the ChampionChip if desired. When you participate in a timed race, you wear a computer chip attached to your shoe to show when you crossed the start and finish line of the race. Disney will provide you a regular chip to wear and them return after the race or you can purchase a commemorative chip to wear and keep. I decided to just use the regular chip since I am not a competitive runner (not yet at least).
We were thrilled when the New Year arrived and were close to our trip, especially once the weather turned cold up here in Western NY. The day we left it was about 4 degrees or so, and we looked forward to winging it to WDW!
