Marathon and attendance

I was wondering how big of an effect the marathon has on DVC attendance. We will be staying at OKW from Jan 11 to Jan 23rd. We were hoping this would be a quiet time of year.

We were there for it last year. I thought the crowds were really low. I am taking my mother this year and we will also be at OKW, arriving on the 10th see you there!!

While many Marathon participants have stayed at OKW in the past, there is little effect on the activity at the resort or in the parks.

We've been there at that for several years and you'd never know there was any special event taking place.

Last year I did get up early and could see the hot air balloons hovering at the start of the race right from our balcony at OKW.

From talking to other marathoners and their families, if you head to the park first thing in the morning, it'll be pretty empty. The 1/2 doesn't end until 9:30, the full marathon not until closer to noon (for all runners to be in). You might see some traffic problems with the route, but probably not many, esp. if you're staying on property. The route is posted on the disney world of sports page. Just click on the marathon and follow the links.
