Does DCL have real Maple Syrup?? Not the kind made from corn syrup.

I ask b/c I am allergic to corn and corn byproducts. I don't like molasses, so I need real Maple Syrup.

TIA for all of your help.

I don't know the answer to your question, but, as long as you have notified DCL of your allergy, they should be able to accommodate you.

As a Vermonter, I can tell you it is NOT real maple syrup. Make note of any allergies on your reservation, maybe they have some available (we never asked).

Enjoy your cruise!

Not real maple syrup. I was terribly disappointed that DCL charges what it does and provides a cheap imitation syrup to guests.

Considering the cost of real maple syrup, I'm not surprised at all. It's quite rare to find real maple syrup in any restaurants.

OP, bring your own! You can buy tiny little jugs of Maple Syrup at Target. Archer Farms brand. Its maybe a 3-4 oz bottle. Bring a couple onboard.

By all that is holy, I am doing this!!!!!

I am a syrup snob, and only tolerate real maple syrup. This year, I cruise with the good stuff!

We bring our own. Can't stand that sugar crap. We even bring REAL VERMONT MAPLE SYRUP for all the C.M.'s we encounter on the cruise. They LOVE it but what's not to love?;)

:) My secret shame...my mom was from Upstate NY and would only buy the real stuff, and I really cannot stand it. :sad2:

And now I have a hubby and son who are sensitive to things based on corn syrup, and absolutely cannot have the junk I always secretly craved.

OP, bring your own and/or put in a request. I know that *some* WDW restaurants will get the real stuff (Kona and H&V have done this for DS), so maybe the cruise can too.

You probably can't do this if you're allergic to all corn, but DS found that just using butter and powdered sugar when he can't get real syrup. (for those who don't know, powdered sugar has cornstarch in it to make it flow...not ever listed in ingredients, but it's in there, so a corn-allergic person can't even have powdered sugar) But it was all moot on our cruise, as we never had pancakes or waffles or anything you might use syrup on.

I also have a corn allergy, and they were not able to provide any type of syrup for me on the Fantasy. They did give me honey instead. So yeah, bring your own!

Definitely not the real stuff, even my 5yo DS could tell the difference. :confused3. We too bring our own, fortunately we drove to PC this year so we didn't have to deal with airline liquid restrictions. I realize maple syrup is one of the most expensive liquids on earth, but common DCL, we want the real stuff.
We live in the county that claims to be the maple syrup capital of Ontario, so we too know good syrup when we taste it!

I'm with you...I hate the real stuff...give me Mrs. Buttersworth!! :thumbsup2

Vermonter here too! The favors at my wedding were heart shaped glass bottles of syrup. I think that DCL caters to the tastes of the masses and most of them wouldn't know real syrup if they tasted it. They save a lot of money that way!

Well, DCL isn't the only line that doesn't serve real maple syrup as part of their regular offerings. I know HAL doesn't either.

Same here! LOL! Log cabin or Aunt Jemima for this gal... dh is a syrup snob and will only tolerate the real stuff and must have it heated... we even have a special syrup pitcher! LOL!

Now for the stick situation: We are flying in. Airlines require it to be in checked luggage. DCL requires it to be in Carryon. :confused3:confused3 What's a girl to do????

Are you doing DCL transfers? If so, this is how to do it.

When you pack your bags at home, the bag that has the syrup in it, don't put the DCL tags on it. Check your bags at the airport as normal. When you get to MCO, claim the one bag without the DCL tag, switch the syrup from checked to carryon bag. Place DCL tag on now syrupless checked bag and carry it to DCL transfer desk. Hand over your checked bag, and it will meet up with your other bags onboard the ship and appear at your room later that evening.

I am a born & raised Vermonter, we have several sugar houses in our family and I drink maple syrup as it's drawn, practically burning my taste buds off. If the only complaint I have about our first ever upcoming DCL cruise is that they don't serve real VT maple syrup, I'll consider the cruise a success! There is no substitute for the real thing, but I'll happily sacrifice it for dining amongst glaciers in Alaska.

On a side note - did you know that the maple butter served at Garden Grill is made with real VT maple syrup?

Thanks. I would have never thought of something like that.

DH is going to really roll his eyes at me for bringing my own syrup. He doesn't have allergies, so he just does not understand....at all.

BTW, is there a special way to pack it so it won't break / spill while on the flight??? (Besides the ziploc baggies???)

I'd probably put it in at least 2 zip-loc bags. And then inside a big plastic bag. Maybe with a few paper towels wrapped around the bottle itself before placing it in the first bag.

We always use a heat sealed plastic freezer bags that give my maple syrup a nice tight safe seal. Then we pack it in our luggage. Never had a problem on 6 Disney cruises and 7 other lines. Even gave the Captain on a RCL cruise a bottle along with maple candy. He kept thanking us the rest of the cruise.
