I've been looking for an inside map of Penn Station and I can't find it. All I can find is the first floor, but, not where Amtrak comes in. We have a layover at Penn Station for about an hour and I was just curious to the layout. I've been told there are vendors and stuff set up and I just wanted to take a peek at the Amtrak layout. If you have a link, please let me know.
Thanks.

I've never seen one. What exactly are you looking for? Where the Amtrak gates are is just one small part of the station - it's kind of a maze of walkways, with lots of shops and stuff. There aren't that many vendors, though that I can think of - lots of storefronts. There are bagel places, delis, fast food places, a TGI Friday's, bookstores, newstands, K-Mart, I think a Duane Reade, Staples, a few tourist souvenir places, a really great socks/tights shop, etc. With the layover you have, you shouldn't have any problem exploring. In fact, you'll want to because there is nowhere to sit (aside from the floor) in the main Amtrak concourse.

What did you find that shows the layout of the first floor? I just did a quick search and didn't come up with anything, so I'm curious.

I guess I was just wondering how far the tracks might be apart. It sounds like it won't be an issue. As for exploring...we will have all of our bags to check with us, so, I guess we can explore after we check our bags.

And...I was just wondering if there would be little shops around to purhcase more snacks for the trip.

This is the site I found wiith a little map.

LIRR has sitting area by the steps that lead up to where Madison Square Garden is....which is also the area to enter into Kmart.

There a pizza place, Carusos that has YUMMY pizza by the way! We grab a slice each time we head into the city :lmao:

Oh yeah, there will be plenty of places to buy snacks.

The tracks are not far apart, though. When you get off the train, you'll take an escalator or stairs up to the concourse level. The gates to return to the train are numbered doorways with escalators down to the tracks. The escalators take you right train side. It isn't far from "gate" to "gate" at all.

When you arrive at Penn Station the escalators/stairs will take you up to the main waiting area with the departure boards. If you walk too far down the platform you may come up near the NJ Transit area but there are directing you back to Amtrak.
There is a seated waiting area for passengers holding tickets. There is also a separate seated waiting area for Acela passengers.
There are quite a few places to grab a bite to eat or shop. Also, if you follow the signs to the LIRR level there are more stores.

Forgot to add that the also recently turned on free WiFi on the Amtrak level in Penn.
