Back at Christmas time a thread was circulating on the budget board about what tween girls (10-12) were asking for the holidays. One thing that was mentioned a lot in the thread was the girls wanted manga.

Well here we are not even a month later and DD 11, is OBSESSED with manga. she has read a few series but i am interested in what other girls her age are reading and enjoying. The ones she has liked are:

Full Moon o Saga****e

Kingdom Hearts

Shogu Chara

Any other suggestions are welcome as this is one area of books that i know nothing about.

My dd is obsessed with the Manga drawing books, her favorites are by Christopher Hart

My dd11 has liked...

Fruit Baskets

Kitchen Princess

Me and my Brothers

Case Closed (has murders/mystery in them)

School Rumble

...and some others I'll try to add later as she doesn't remember..

Be careful what you get b/c my DD loves manga and will sometimes pick out a book in the comic store which might be a little too "revealing". Usually, I'll just flip through the pages before I let her get them. DD & DS were reading Naruto, but they were started using bad words so we stopped that.

Wicked Lovely - Desert Tales by Melissa Marr was great, and so was The Faerie Path by Frewin Jones.

Well...my dd's have been reading manga forever so I am going to warn you that most of it is not kid friendly. When my 13yodd gets home I will ask her what are some kid friendly manga's for her age group. She is not really into manga as much as her sister was.

Most kids read it online as an FYI for you. If she is into it she will soon figure that out. The online stuff is not as fluffy as the Americanized version. So Sailor Moon online is going to be more graphic.

My 18yodd reads the "adult manga", which is called "Yaoi".:headache: You have to 18 to buy this. The guys version is called "Yuri". Not really a concern for you at this point however I am just educating you so when you go into a store and see those 2 words you will know what they mean. You will have to look the terms up on your own.

I've been a Manga and Anime fan fan since I was 10(I'm now 16) :)

Some of the ones I LOVED when I was around that age were Cardcaptor Sakura and Tokyo Mew Mew :goodvibes

Out of curiousity does she watch anime too or just read manga? And does she play the Kingdom Hearts video games? I LOVE those games!!

Well I asked dd and she most it is not kid friendly. She said that DN Angel is pretty good and tame.

This is wild, because I have an 11 y-o DD who is nuts for manga, and she is the only one she knows.

She likes Tokyo Mew-Mew, Ouran High School Host Club, Othello and Fruits Basket.

I had no idea some weren't appropriate for tweens. I figured a comic book was a comic book (I'm stuck in the 70s of my own childhood!). I better start reading them.

No way will I let her know they are available on line! We get them from the library.
