Can anyone tell me what is available airside at Manchester airport terminal 2? I can't work it out from their website and can't remember. Is there somewhere I can buy cold food to take onto our flight? My children hate the Virgin meals.......

What kind of stuff do you want?
There's a Boots where you can get sandwiches etc, as well as crisps and snacks, which you can also get from Smiths :)

Me and DD were exactly the same with plane food so we got some sandwiches from Boots.
There are also places to eat if you fancy having a meal before boarding - for exampe we had breakfast at Frankie and Benny's - but there is also Burger King or Brodericks.

I'd probably just bring my own sandwiches (another one who hates plane food) and snacks etc from home - they can be very costly from the airport.
Obviously you'll have to get drinks etc airside but hey :)

If you want sandwiches, defo. get from Boots, waaaaaaaaaay cheaper then buying them from the airport cafe. Boots also do boxes of fruit, crisps, salads, chocolate etc.

Another vote for Boots for food. If it is only sandwiches you want, then Smiths is fine. There is also a little place (like a bakery/sandwich deli) in the fast food area which has lovely baked goods. I can't remember the name.

I checked on the MAN website last year just before we left and when we got to the airport, found that some of the info was inaccurate and outdated since the previous year so I wouldn't rely totally on that as a source of info.

You may want to bring some granola bars or similar and crisps from home. Remember that all fresh fruit and fruit products need to be left on the plane when you arrive in the US so if taking that, remember to empty your bags before getting off.

That is excellent advice and well worth remembering.
Last thing you need is to be held up by something so silly on your arrival.

You know, the only reason I thought of this is because, it wasnt' fruit, but last year I was drinking a bottle of water when I got to check in and slipped it into my bag while I was busy, then promptly forgot about it. My bag was pulled separately and DD was beside herself thinking I was in trouble. The point is, I had put lots of fruit in there from the Grab n Go breakfast at the hotel and had the water not been picked up on the scanning device I woudn't have gone into that compartment of my bag and had completely forgotten about it.
