I was on this morning at 7:58am to book our studio for nov 27-dec 1st. When i looked the value studio was available - i start going through the booking steps right when it was 8:00am and then it tells me my dates are not available, so I go back an they are gone. I really wanted a standard studio but figured if the value room was there i might as well save some points.

I don't think i would ever plan a trip assuming i would get a value room. Just might be nice to get but not really a reality.

This was exactly at 11 months and it was online at 8am. I guess there are probably a lot of people walking these reservations.
They have to be. What I can't figure out is, when are they actually able to jump in to start the walk?

As I understand, almost whenever they want. it is just a matter of dropping day one and adding a day on
What I meant was when are they able to get that first day in to start the process? Every time I look at ****** the value and club rooms are always gone at the 11-month mark. I think only once did I see a value room open and I am sure it didn't last long. I would hate to know that I bought points at the AKV with intent to grab those rooms most of the time.

Even without walking these are booked immediately at 11 months due to the low cost. Nobody should buy AKV specifically for those two categories as they are very small and in high demand. I've been able to get club level booked (though I ended up dropping it) but it requires being the first to try for it right at 8am, 11 months out.

Does anybody walk any rooms at 7 months out? Or is that doable, possible or nonsense?

People do try to walk at 7 months but there's no guarantee of it working as you can easily be blocked out part way through. For these categories it wouldn't likely happen as there wouldn't be availability at that point (aside from someone cancelling and it not being picked up by a WL).

I hate talking on the phone. Literally hate it, and I guess it is just a sign of the times, which is bad. I would never be calling MS every day to do this, but for some its no big deal and to each their own. But if Disney was to ever improve their IT systems, which ya, like that is ever gonna happen, and let people adjust their reservations online, the walking method could really take off and make it even harder to get certain rooms during certain times. But like I said, improved IT system and Disney, LoL.

Although walking may have contributed to low inventory, it's not the reason you didn't get the reservation. If something was showing available at 7:58 but gone by the time you attempted to book, it just means someone else was faster than you and/or had a faster computer/internet connection. I've always been able to book a value right at 8am 11 months out (as long as the RAT showed availability on my check-in day).

A tip would be to pick the top option once you submit the search. Don't even read the offer, just click the top one as it will be what you searched. If it isn't for whatever reason it doesn't matter because if you wait to read the offers before selecting you already missed it.

You might want to try booking your dates again in a few days after the walkers have passes you dates. Try booking 1 day at a time and piece your dates together after you have all your dates. You might also want to try a 1 bedroom, since the values are lock-offs I believe.

Yes they are either dedicated Studios or lock offs.

We bought specifically with that intent. Found it wasn't quite so easy to secure them at the 11 month window. Worse than BWV IMO>

Then felt compelled to add-on points which, if i restrain myself & keep a reserve, which can be utltized to walk my reservations.

Other times I book standard & either pick up one time use points or cut my trip short a day. Haven't had any luck with WL there for more than a day or so BTW.

Broken record I am, do believe people have both added on/allocate their points differently if they get shut out a few times & really want a specific resort/category.

I think it's a combo of timing & luck. I got a value studio for 11/16-18 without walking at all, then went back a couple days later and actually added 11/15. I could have booked all of Thanksgiving week at that point without an issues. Figure it gets us a Friday night for MVMCP and Saturday to resort hop & see all the Christmas decorations. It was my first time trying for a value room.

We were able to book a value studio for 10/7-10/11 in mid November. I was shocked to see it sitting there waiting for me to click BOOK. It was absolute serendipity. I was on the RAT messing around and happened upon it. We got VERY lucky!

It's about to get worse with planned decrease in point requirement.

LAX

And I hear, in general, most non-home resorts are almost impossible to get at 7-months out during much of the year, so these will definitely be a no-go in that case.

One bedrooms are often possible, Studios sometimes. I do not think it is as difficult as what you have heard.

SSR may not be first choice for many, but this past summer, we got a 3 night stay there, in a studio, to ride Elen’s energy and the Great Movie Ride one last time. We booked about 2 weeks out.
