I was sailing on the Wonder early friday morning, we have been woken up by a message from the captain saying we were participating into a research for a man who fell over board.

They cancelled our stop in Nassau in the end.

I would like to know if you heard anything in the news regarding that person?

It's one thing to hear about it while you're at home. It's another to hear that it happened while you are cruising... So sad.

Hoping for the best. Of course you have a hard time ACCIDENTALLY falling--wonder if he jumped, was pushed, etc???

There was a report of a person who fell overboard on the carnival liberty yesterday off the coast of the Bahamas. The coast guard searched for him but had now suspended their efforts. He was a 32 yr old man on his honeymoon

Yes, hoping for the best. But you always have to prepare for the worst in these cases.

And yes. You have to work pretty hard to fall overboard. You're either doing something stupid (often fueled by alcohol), doing it intentionally (either planned or as the result of a mental break - someone on a fathom cruise a few weeks ago witnessed a college kid jump overboard due to a mental break - the Adonia is small enough he survived...and fought the rescue boat which got to him), or someone pushes you.

It was NOT from the magic.

It was from a different cruise line but the Wonder, along with other cruise ships in the area went to assist. Hence the Magic docking in Nassau, but the Wonder not making it (the Magic and Wonder were meant to be together in port that day.

Sorry, my husband thought the captain said it was from the "sister ship"... The message woke us up. I originally thought it was a passenger from the Disney Wonder. They said the details once and never mentioned it again.

It wasn'r

It wasn't yesterday but Friday around 5 AM.

It wasn't yesterday but Friday around 5 AM.

A) There COULD have been someone yesterday as well.

B) The poster could have meant yesterday there was a report - meaning they got the report yesterday.

That story fits what we have heard (5 AM friday morning).

It was special... Deck 4 was closed off with crew members watching around. There was a helicopter flying over us.

I don't think they have found the body. :(

We were docked with the Liberty at PC.

It always make me feel sad to heard stories like that but this time... We could actually see the waters where the person fell in... Heartbreaking.

That must put a bit of a damper on the cruise... so you guys missed out on Nassau day? Do they offer any extras to compensate the loss in the day? I know it's part of cruising but seems kind of like maybe an extreme reason to cancel a port day.... I wonder if they would have done the same if you all were docked in St. Thomas.... anyways not trying to be crass... my thoughts and prayers are with this young man and his family, just curious as I have never heard of this as a reason for canceling a port day

Pretty sure it is maritime law that they must help search in a situation like that (ditto assist small crafts in trouble).

No compensation.

Maybe they'll refund the taxes?

Here is an actual news story: http://www.ajc.com/news/local/decatur-man-missing-from-cruise-ship/TWK1GZf3kbmH8iyMJXkL4H/

Funny how no one goes overboard at 9am.

"Reco Scott, 32, “was observed jumping from a cabin balcony” about 4:53 a.m. Friday, Carnival Cruise Line spokeswoman Jennifer De La Cruz said in a statement."

Like I said. No one goes overboard by accident. (And no, I don't count doing stupid things while drunk as an "accident" because you chose to drink to that point.)

oh ok so it's law, I guess that's good so the cruise line isn't forced to decide between doing port activities or assisting in a search of an overboard passenger

Jumping can be a suicide too.
