Man jumped overboard off Oasis this week.

As stated, it is virtually impossible to accidentally fall off the ships.

We walked deck 4 several dozen times this trip and saw NO gaps where anyone could get through.

Over if they climbed--but not through.

oh that is terribly sad. Yeah - I can't/won't watch. How sad for the family.

I saw that the family is trying to sue RC.
That's awful. I read there was chop on the water and it was 1 am. The ship cannot simply stop on a dime. Once he was in the dark he was out of visual sight. Even as fast as they had boats in the water, it's like picking a needle out of a hay stack. As sorry as I am for their loss, ultimately it was his doing for climbing over the rail. No grounds for litigation.

They are saying he was gay and a crewmember in a bar called him"lipstick " or something and that he got furious. But apparently he was so drunk he was cut off at the bar. Then later he got in a domestic dispute with his husband and neighboring cabins called security and when security came he jumped off his balcony. But the family is saying it was all because the crewmember called him lipstick. Confusing to say the least.

That's a different issue. He chose to drink. He chose to climb over the rail. One has nothing to do with the other. We all have choices. Bad things happen to people every day. I've been wronged. It's up to me what I do about that. If my poor choices in how to handle something cause me harm, well, my consequences to suffer. He could've just as easily chosen to strike up a conversation with that person and had a great heart to heart. Then none of us would be having this conversation at all. Right?

@bonnysammy I know some people here have mentioned requesting to get the furniture (at least the little table) on the balcony removed because they were worried about kids climbing. Just an option for your peace of mind! I've done 5 disney cruises in balcony rooms with toddlers and we have never had a problem. The doors are hard for me to open. There is no way I could just fall off at 5'9 unless I climbed onto something and climbed over the railing. I think it would be hard for your 2 year old even if he stood on a table (but we have a no standing on the balcony furniture rule for our kids - more so they don't fall and get hurt as the ship sometimes rocks, less worry about actually falling overboard - it really is hard to do).

I have a strict "no standing on furniture" rule, but my 1.5 year old doesn't always adhere to the rule. I guess I'm just a worrywart.

The full report I read said that the family including the husband believes security forced him out on the balcony and a fight between the man and security continued until he fell overboard. I did not watch the video as I try not to watch real people dying horrible deaths but supposably the husband can be heard screaming that the security guards are murderers. The family was going to leave it at accidental death at sea until they saw the video.

It will be interesting to see what happenes

To put it a little more in perspective, from 2005 - 2015 there were 267 man overboard a internationally. In the US there are about 100 drowning, (non boat related), deaths of children under 5 every year, most are in backyard pools and bathtubs.

While I understand your concern, the odds are in your favor, but obviously nothing can replace a watchful eye. So don't wear your eye patch on Pirate night!!!!!

I got this information on the internet so it has to be true!

Hence the "I know some people here have mentioned requesting to get the furniture (at least the little table) on the balcony removed because they were worried about kids climbing. Just an option for your peace of mind!" part in the reply. :)

That's not what the sheriff's report said, or what the recording talked about seems to indicate. He said he was going to jump, he went running (alone) TO the balcony, he jumped.

The men, it seems, had been separated by security; that's pretty normal in what is or what seems to be a "domestic situation". You don't have the two people in the same space. And if I were Security (or law enforcement), I especially would want to separate two men that seemed to be fighting because of the strength men can have. It's normal to have them apart while they are trying to figure things out.

I just saw this new article with video of what occurred in the cabin prior to the passenger jumping overboard.

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/fl-man-overboard-video-20151111-story.html

I am really surprised this was released by the attorney for the family as it seems to clearly show that the man intentionally jumped overboard. In addition, the husband , while understandably distraught and upset, makes accusations about what has happened that are contrary to what is shown on the video. Which calls into question his subsequent accusations regarding events which were not caught on tape.

Very sad situation and such a waste of a relatively young life...

I just read a woman went overboard yesterday on the Norwegian Pearl! What the heck? The ship says it was not an accident.....

Wow, although very sad. But this seems very fishy, a video recording the incident inside the cabin, and then the hubby telling someone to call CNN and the lawyers, he was pushed over. Very, very weird.

Company officials say it was an intentional act by her. Not much anyone can do in that case.
