We arrived from CT on Wednes - left in snowstorm and approx 30 degrees to arrive at 80 degrees, low humidity and partly cloudy.
Saw a lot of my Oklahoma Sooner brethern in the Orlando airport when we arrived - heading out after a less than satisfying Orange Bowl. Haven't seen so many long faces since I toured the horsebarn at Anheiser Busch!
Right now, I'm looking live out room 5406 in Sago Cay at the Grand Floridian this afternoon amid 80 degrees, partly sunny and just slightly more humid than yesterday. Perhaps you can hear an occasional monorail going by. My DW is napping and I'm on the balcony in swim trunks and rum toddie so I thought I'd drop all the DIS folks a line. As you know, January can be spotty but the weather is to remain constant throughout our entire stay (departing Sat 1/15). Bill from PA must be euphoric (wasn't the word I originally selected but this is a family site!)
We move to Saratoga Springs tomorrow as my folks arrive from Nebr escaping 15 inches of recent snow and a lousy football season. It has been surprisingly crowded, especially at MK. We tried out first "extended late hours" on Wednes evening but left after Wishes - just too crowded. I guess there is no real "down time" anymore.
You can't swing a dead cat (just an expression, don't get your knickers in a twist) and not hit someone from either Britian, Japan or Latin America. I guess the weak dollar has stimulated foreign travel. However, the difference in attitude is quite noticeable - everyone very pleasant and well mannered!
Haven't noticed any marathoners but the CMs say that some 17,000 are participating. We've had a drug company convention here at the GF - I won't give you the name but there were plenty of stadium seat cushions with VIAGRA on them. (and you wonder why drug prices are so high!)
They do have a great marathon shirt out this year with Mickey in a Pirates of the Caribbean theme - may be the best one I've seen. Also found out that the Capt Jack adult beverage shack on the pier at the Shopping Village will be replaced with an enclosed building in the next several weeks. You may not care but that is one of my "don't miss" stops - best rum runners on the face of the earth!
I've got a long standing deal with my DW that she shops and I visit the rum runner shack. Currently, I've got a self-imposed limit of three per visit. I never used to have a limit but I guess last spring after six rum runners (actually 5 1/2 - the other half is on the floor of a WDW bus somewhere) I was found trying to lob ice cubes on the third floor balconies at OKW on my way back from the bus stop. Fortunately, there is no concrete evidence so my position is that its just a nasty rumor.
I surely do miss my buddy Jay (passed away several years back) - our families always vacationed together at WDW and at least I had a partner in crime. Its a tough job going it alone!
By the way, the GF charges 9.95 for 24 hour contiguous internet service - what a rip! Saratoga Springs includes it - vacation club is the way to go!
Well, don't have much else to report at this juncture. The ice has melted and the lime peal is sticking above the fluid in the Mickey glass so I expect its time for a refill. If you have requests for info, etc. just pass them along and I'll see what I can do!
