Okay, so my children think I am awful because I killed a deer and my car is trashed. I call to report it to my insurance and the guy says, "Can you describe the accident to me." I was dumbfounded for a minute and then said, "Well, I was driving along and a deer came booking out of the woods and either it hit me or I hit it." Really and all what more was there to say. Then after gathering the names of the people in the car, the guy says, "So, were there any other witnesses besides your kids and the deer." :rotfl: :rotfl2: Uhh, no and since he is dead I don't think you are getting much out of the deer. :confused3

I called the after hours claims number and I really should have waited to talk to my agent because now I have questions like--how much is my deductible, can I get a rental while it's in the shop, etc. Bleah. :sad2:

That is my worst fear. Especially when we drive up north to the cottage. You can see them all over the roads, some made it some didn't. Sorry about your accident. I'm sure that shook you up a bit. Glad everyone in the car is ok.

I HATE freakin deer!!! :furious: I came thisclose to hitting one the other day.....some how the Hondamobile came out unscathed and I missed the sucker. Sorry about your car.

I'm so sorry you hit the deer but your description of the claims person is hysterical. :rotfl: :rotfl:
I've hit a couple of deer in my life and husband still busts my chops about killing Bambi (really small fawn). :sad2:

Glad to hear you 'n the kids are fine.
Wait til the mornin' and talk to your agent,
make life easier on yourself.

I'm sorry to hear this... deer are beautiful and it's sad when one is hit but they are a nuisance in some areas

Get your car taken care of ASAP, and don't let the kids look at it. DH hit a deer years back and I can still remember the fur stuck to the damaged areas as well as the smell... :guilty:

That stinks, but I am glad you were all ok, many people are seriously injured in car accidents that involve a deer.

Hitting deer is pretty common around here, but that doesn't make it any less scary when it happens to you.

Hope it is all resolved soon!

:grouphug: First I want to say that I am glad everyone is Ok. I have seen a few bad accidents involving deer. It can be scary :grouphug:

OMG!!! There are tears running down my face....that is hysterical!!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I am sorry about your accident and glad everyone is ok.

This reminds me of years ago when I was driving and hit a patch of ice and then ran into a telephone pole. I called the police to report the icy spot so the road crew could salt it. Did they ask if I was alright?? No. They did want to know if the pole was ok though.

Ever since we moved here to Northern MI, about 2 yrs ago, I have been afraid we would hit a deer. I worry about my DH cause he drives home late at night and has had several close calls.

I am sorry that it happened to you. I'm glad you and the kids are ok though, and hope the car is repaired quickly.

Here, our fear is running over and killing skunks.

I did hang onto the "omigod" handle in the rental car when I was in Estes Park two weeks ago though.

The ELK!

I thought those things were deer-sized! They're freaking horses with antlers! And they're everywhere! Even at the ATM.

See?

Word of advice from one who has hit a few.

Do not clean the car off until the inspector inspects.

It is easier for them to prove it was a deer with the hair on it. First time I cleaned it off and they tried to tell me I hit a tree. (hitting a tree would cause my rates to rise, hitting a deer would not)

OMG, you were in Estes Park? That is my family's favorite vacation spot! (We live near WDW, or else that statement would be heresy, lol! :teeth: ) We've been to Estes Park at least 20 times in the 18 years I've been alive; we lived in Colorado Springs for 6 years and went up to RMNP every year. Once we got stuck in traffic while a herd of about 40 elk crossed the road. It would have been a bother but I love the Colorado wildlife. :)

I glad that everyone is ok, but I have to tell you, the way you told it, made me laugh.... :rotfl: :rotfl:

Yikes, glad you and the kids are ok! I've never laughed when reading about a deer being killed, but your description was funny. :) Hitting a deer is a big fear of mine since we have so many around here and our roads are so narrow and curvy, with woods close to the roads. I'm always scanning for them, but they can dart so fast into the path of a car that it's hard to avoid.
