Man dies on Big Thunder Railroad

Because it might be a low chance "maybe". Most rides warn about motion sickness and neck problems. In my case, I know what kind of motion causes sickness. I suspect a lot of people are like me- they assess the risk and decide whether it's worth the unlikely chance something will happen.

He may have ridden it dozens of times before with no ill side effects.

The unfortunate thing is this sort of thing happens all the time in parks all across the world. You get people of all different walks of life together and unfortunately things like this will occasionally happen

The reports always make it sound like the ride did it. I mean a woman died after riding IASW due to a preexisting condition but people report the off feeling to the ride CM and it gets logged as being from the ride. His true cause of death was probably written as something like xyz condition exasperated by theme park ride if that at all.

If you read the article it looks like Disney needs to ban all of us over 50 from riding anything. Their insurance folks must groan when they see us approaching the rides.

...you have no idea
The lawyers want you to go back to your $750 room and take a nap...

...the suits want you only at the gift shop registers with magic bands armed.

There have been multiple deaths at Disney. They're all public record. You should go look it up. It's pretty interesting.

I feel sad for the family but the media is making a big deal of it. It happened two months ago and it was just a preexisting condition which triggered the accident. They're making it sound like it's a lot worse

I don't think they're making a "big deal" of it at all...it's a fairly normal/common occurrence at wdw and will continue to be...

...not the "healthiest" of places and these things happen.

I was also taken back by this post. All the reports say he died after riding the ride. So if I drop dead after driving home from work it's the car or Highway Administrations fault?

They have always reported fatalities occurring after park visits this way...it's been going on for decades...not just in Orlando.

You have to decide for yourself how much of a factor it really is. Obviously they think there is a medical correlation but there's really no way to know for sure.

I agree 100% with it having to be reported and its always been the case. News media loves reporting anything negative at Disney. Call it what it is.... Love to see how they would of reported it if he passed away after getting off Prince Charming Carousel.

I've heard some stories of a lot of people who pass away while at disney that are never on these reports because they are not injuries. Some people who know they are at the end of their life do choose disney as their final place to be to enjoy what's left. The gentlemen might have decided that BTMRR was worth 1 more ride.

As far as why do people still go on with warnings. I am dealing with high blood pressure and I've been through a few tests to look into if the thrill rides are safe. I was cleared by my doctor but that doesn't mean I can ignore the signs that i'm riding them too much.. So pre-existing doesnt' mean you need to avoid them. The warning sign is just to clear disney of liability if you do hurt yourself and are not diligent with your medical needs and a description of what to expect on the ride if you don't know it.

Personally I don't know why anyone pregnant goes near any ride. It's pretty violent when the emergency brakes get hit to stop the ride as close to a on a dime as possible.
