Man arrested with two hand guns at DLP Hotel

Very helpful. Out of curiosity, if you parked at Hotel New York and decided to go into the park, would you go through 3 security checks? Looks that way from the map, but seems extraordinary.
.

You would go through 2 security checks.
1.At the carpark side of Hotel New York.
2.Then you walk through the hotel and over to Disney Village, where there is another security check.

On the other side of Disney village there are barriers and railings. People can either go to the parks or out of Disney property to the train station. To get back in from the train station you have to go through a security check again.

Definitely glad we have metal detectors at DL and WDW here!

According to the news articles I saw, the guns were in their luggage, in suitcases, not handbags or anything like that. Wdw and dl have never allowed suitcases into the park, afaik, so it isn't like those would have gotten into the parks here either - even before the new security measures.

They were going into one of the Disney onsite hotels, Hotel New York, thats why their luggage was screened and the guns found. They were not at the main park entrance, going into the French version of Magic Kingdom

I am aware of that. I was responding to someone else who said they were glad that wdw and dl had metal detectors now. All that was mentioned in this thread was that the guns were in a bag..which could be any kind of bag. I was pointing out they were in suitcases to illustrate that the likelihood of that event happening in at wdw or dlr where they have the new metal detectors is slim to none, as suitcases were never allowed to go through those points anyway. So the new security measures would not really play a part in preventing this particular event at wdw or dl...the security measures they already had in place would have done so.

Even if they had been in a hand bag at wdw, as others have pointed out the bags aren't being put through the new metal detectors. Bags are still just being inspected as they always have been at bag check, so even there the metal dectors would not have played a part.

I believe France is still in a state of emergency from the terror attacks a few months ago. And I believe France has strict gun control laws. ??? I can't speculate on what exactly he was under arrest for, but I'm guessing those things come into play here. I'm also not aware of Disneyland Paris' policies on weapons on property, but I'm sure they're looking at that too. We'll have to wait and see when more info. becomes available.

... but everyone had said Disney security was for show only???
You do realize that the security in Paris is totally different than the security that is starting to happen at WDW, right?

At WDW, no bags are going through x-rays. In fact, only certain people are being checked. From what I have read, it is for show.

That said, I am glad no one is going through my bags as I go into my hotel.

lol...

The reason this is news is because they French don't understand why anyone would bother to have guns at Disney...they get it...which means they don't get that.

And wdw security - for one - is largely just for show.

False equivalencies flowing on this one...

The French don't allow the transport of guns except under strict conditions by those who are legally entitled to possess them. I don't think private firearms are allowed anywhere, not only at DLP, except locked up at home or club.

I prefer getting my bags x-rayed instead of someone digging through them by hand. Hand searches vary by screener (some security people take one peek inside and wave you along, others want to see every nook and cranny in the bag while holding up the rest of the line behind you... real fun when you're rushing into the park at rope drop). X-rays are more efficient and fairer for everyone. I wish the WDW parks had them. (I like wearing lots of pockets and using clear vinyl bags now.)

Although I think DLP having all those checkpoints is a bit of an overkill. Universal guests only go through one checkpoint wherever they enter Citywalk, but the parks themselves don't have any extra checkpoints. (and someone just going to a hotel for a dinner reservation there doesn't have to go through security either)
