We are thinking of trying Mama Melrose for the Fantasmic Package.

Any reviews or menu suggestions?

Thanks!

It has been a while. We ate there on ur trip January 2009. The food was VERY good...but not amazing. I would eat there again...especially for the Fantasmic package. Fantasmic is a great show!!!

I've never been, but some friends of ours had lunch there last week and enjoyed it.

We have always had a good meal there. On the DDP I usually order a virgin pina colava then either the tomato/mozzarella salad or antipasta platter for two as an appetizer (even though the antipasta platter says it's for two, if you are on the DDP one person can order it). For the entree I like their steak or Spaghetti Fra Diavolo, then usually order the cheesecake for dessert.

Mama Melrose is the only option I would pick for the Fantasmic package, personally.

The chicken or shrimp with pasta in cream sauce (maybe orrichetti?) was really good. the chicken parm is so-so. Overall I would say it's olive garden quality. To some people, that's a good thing. To others, it's not. It is what it is...

Mama Melrose is in the category with Macaroni grill and Olive Garden--but not as good as either.

My friend and I went there and didn't care for it. We enjoyed Tony's a lot, but Mama Melrose is not on our list to do again. Tony's doesn't help with the Fantasmic package of course, but that is the only place we ate at Studios.

This place is hit or miss in terms of the food and service. The first time we went there the service was great but the food was practically indelible. We swore never to go back but after reading many good reviews we decided to give it another chance and the food was very good but the service was lacking. Last year we ate there for the third time and the food was good but there were only a few waiters covering a crowded restaurant.

Is MM kid-friendly? I know that most places in DW are, but this is relatively speaking. We'll be doing the Fantasmic DP with DS6 DS4 and DD2.If the customers are mostly people there to enjoy a nice, quiet meal, I'd rather bring my kids to Hollywood and Vine where they can be as disruptive as they want, even though the food quality may be lacking ;). Actually my kids are pretty good, but we know that with a 2 year old, dinner behavior is a crapshoot.

I went for the first time on our last trip. We had a quick luch and both ordered a specialty flat bread. My friend got the fresh mozzerella one and I had a chicken and ?? one. Both were delicious and filling. Especially when eatten with their free fresh bread/oil "appetizer." It cheap as far as theme park food goes. The atmosphere of the resturant is not as "fun" as 50's Prime Time or the SciFi but it was still a nice pleasant place to eat. I would deffinetly do it again especially if I was paying OOP and just wanted a quick meal. If I had newbies with me who really wanted to experience a theme resturant or I was on the DDP and didn't care about the bang for my buck I might choose 50's or SciFi instead.

Neither 50's or Sci-Fi are on the Fantasmic package. I would pick either of them over Mama Melrose, but using the F! package, MM would definitely be my pick.

the chicken parm is a must try!! so delish!!

we had the calimari and it was good too!!! it was our first time ever trying it!

We've eaten there probably four times and always had good food. The flatbreads are very good and I had the shrimp pasta dish which was also very good.

Here is what we had;

Mama's Antipasto for Two - selection of meats, cheeses, and marinated vegetables $14.99---very good, especially marinated mushrooms

Crispy Calamari for Two - topped with peppers and onions, served with a side of spicy marinara sauce $12.99---wonderful, tender and delicious

Clams Oreganatta - Oak-fired Clams cooked in Oregano Butter with Italian Sausage over Toasted Foccacia 10.99---My favorite of the appetizers-the BEST flavor

Charred Strip Steak
Italian Roasted Potatoes and Cipollini Onions, Aged Balsamic-Shallot Butter, and Chianti Wine Reduction 28.99--Extremely tender, cooked perfectly, and with a great flavor. My husband thought it was better than the fillet at Narcoossee's

Goat Cheese-filled Ravioli
Poached in an Herb-Tomato Broth served with a Sweet Onion-Balsamic Relish 16.99---this was just wonderful. The onion-balsamic relish really made this dish.

Chicken Pipette
Wood-grilled Chicken over Pipette Pasta tossed with Artichokes, Peas, Roasted Peppers, and Sweet Onions in a Basil Four-Cheese Cream Sauce 17.99---This was also very good, but more ordinary, and so the least favorite of our meals. But still good, and HUGE!

Mama’s Tiramisù
Tiramisù-flavored Gelato over Freshly Brewed Espresso, topped with Amaretto Zabaglione and Ladyfingers 5.99--Not your traditional tiramisu, but after a big heavy meal, a perfect finish.

Chocolate Amarettini Cheesecake 5.49---just delicious

Crema Limone No Sugar Added Lemon Custard topped with
fresh Whipped Cream and Berries 6.99---good, but nothing special.

We had read mixed reviews of this place, and had not reserved it before for that very reason. Then, with 3 days left till our trip, a Fantasmic package opened up. I just thought that having that would make things less complicated timing-wise, so I booked it. And boy am I glad we did. I really have to say that I think it was our best meal of the trip. But oh soooo much food. Will definitely return.
