We are doing the Fantasmic package in August. We are on the DDP and I'm torn between Mama Melrose and Hollywood & Vine...I've heard negative things about each one :confused3 We are not going to do Brown Derby since it is 2 table service credits. So, if you had to choose between Mama Melrose and Hollywood & Vine - which would you choose and why?

Thanks!!!

EDIT: The youngest in our party is 15 years old so character meals aren't something we are worried about.

What are the ages of your party? Depending on the age and appetite of your group my response will vary. In my opinion they have two very different feels. I think H&V, because it's a buffet, seems more casual. You get what you want, when you want and are out the door. MM reminds me of an Applebees or a BJs Brew Pub. Dining casual and but your tied to the pacing of your server and the kitchen. Take a look at the menus and see if one jumps at you. If you're still tied and you have young kids or varied food preferences I'd say H&V. If you want to relax and don't mind about time then go with MM.

You're doing the Fantasmic Dining Package, but you have no ADR's for it yet??? Um....I'd first check to see if there's ANY availability for ANY of the restaurants on the day(s) you are planning for DHS. These packages generally go incredibly fast at the 180 day mark.

IF you can take your pick between late lunch/early dinner, go for the late lunch and then have a quick CS late supper after the show.

For me, either one is a tossup: neither one of these places are noted for their fine cuisine, although I think H&V is pretty dismal for their food quality. You're really paying the big bucks (or TS credits) for the reserved seating at the show that night.

Good luck, and if you can't get anything right now, book a TS dinner and keep trying in the coming weeks for a F package. Cancellations can free up spaces at any time.

Maybe I should have been more specific, I do currently have it booked for Mama Melrose but I was wondering if I should change it.

Mama Melrose is great. We love it and are doing the package in October. We love the Chicken Parmesean. If you like chicken parm then definetly do it. My DS when he was younger got an individual 4 cheese flatbread. The Sirloin steak is decent as well MIL had that last year but it is only available at dinner. The spicey italian sausage over rigatoni is awesome as well. Just one more thing, if you enjoy buffets, H&V is one of the better ones. We try to stay away from buffets as much as possible, especially dinner buffets. Alot of people give MMR a bad rating, but we love it and will continue to go.

I say Mam Melrose, at times it is a hit or miss with the food, but I think it's like that at a lot of the places. The food was never terrible, we would just walk away saying, it was better last time. With that said, we have eaten there maybe 5 times and I only wasn't crazy about the food in Nov. when we were there, but the Mocha frozen drink was great for dessert. My DH isn't crazy about it but 9 other people that go with us always like it. We will be going there again in August.

Easy decision for us....MM all the way! We have been to both and HV is on our "never again" list. Dirty, dirty restaurant, bad food and service. MM we have been to twice and are returning to this October. We have had very nice meals here. DH loved the chicken parm and I really enjoyed the calamari app and the chicken flatbread.

I would stick with what you have.

Good luck:goodvibes

I'm with the Mamma Melrose People. I have eaten there several times with no complaints (other than the deserts always arrive melted-Warning: DO NOT ORDER THEM WITH YOUR DINNER..WAIT UNTIL AFTER DINNER AND THEN ORDER--) Also, everyone I go with can't stand their Teriamsou (SP?).

I did not care for H&V at all-was dirty, and the food was really bad.( even bad compaired to general buffet bad).

If I were you I would stick with what you have!:thumbsup2

stick with MM, food is decent. H & V is just vile & nasty, dirty, noisy, lousy food & service, absolutely no redeeming qualities to justify its existence!!!! Can you tell I don't like it there?

We're going with MM as well on our honeymoon. I've heard too many bad things about H&V on here and I'd rather not take my chances.

We love MM, the food is very good but no the calamari (it is limp and so greasy)

You could not pay me to ever set foot in H&V again. I would rather eat a hot dog or something

If you have 8/23 I'd like to give you some bad advice and tell you to cancel MM and try to pick up HV - I have 4 in at MM but still need a table for 5 and you could help.

STAY at MM! We've been to H & V twice and will not return. So-so food and bad service, as well as very loud...not worth it, IMO>

We've been to MM several times on the F! package and love the food. Only complaint there is we've had very slow service last 2 out of 3 times. Not bad, just slow. But they book you so early for the F! package the slow service made no difference. The food was definitely worth the credit.

Besides, I'd be very surprised if you could switch at this point anyway since that's just over 3 months away.

Our last (and I mean that the sense that it was our most recent and last ever) visit to H&V was horrid. Worse than some crap roadside no-name buffet restaurant on the bad side of town where everything is served on paper plates with ice cream scoops. I would avoid it like the plague (though at least you don't have to pay for the plague, which makes it better than H&V).

I don't know where you are staying...but if you have access to a fridge and microwave I WHOLE HEARTEDLY recommend MM!

We got to the park at rope drop and toured the park up until our reservation at MM. We took the first reservation of the day at 1:30pm which gave us a 9pm F! pass

You get an appetizer, main course and dessert with each F! meal at MM. It was SO MUCH FOOD! We were full after the appetizer. We ended up boxing up most of the meals and taking them with us. We left the park after eating to relax/swim etc..(loaded with fast passes for our return that night), took our food with us and warmed them up later in the day for dinner. We even had food left over from that, and at that the next day!

We are going to do the same thing in June! Got almost 3 meals for the price of 1 ;)

I have heard waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more positive reviews of Mama Melrose compared to a largely negative feedback from H&V visitors.

I choose the F! package myself, and we will be eating at Mama Melrose. I haven't myself eaten here but every time I have walked past it a delicious aroma was coming from the restaurant!!!

We've been to MM several times on the F! package and love the food. Only complaint there is we've had very slow service last 2 out of 3 times. Not bad, just slow. But they book you so early for the F! package the slow service made no difference. The food was definitely worth the credit.

this was our experience the last two times we ate at MM as well. Service was soooooooooo sloooooooooooooow. And while it doesn't make you late to Fantasmic or anything, it makes all of us antsy when we want to get back out in the parks before the show and it's going on hour 2 of the meal!

Some 10 years ago I put H&V on my never to do list again and from what I've read here it's gotten worst. At $33.00 plus tax per adult I expect something better then Kennel Rations.
