Mama Melrose or Sci Fi? Please give your opinion...

I've not been to either but I kind of wanted to check out Sci Fi however, I'm just going for lunch with one other person (also an adult).

I've heard that Melrose is good for lunch....

Any opinions?

We thought the Sci-Fi was way overpriced for lunch but we really enjoyed the atmosphere so on each subsequent trip we always stop in there in the late afternoon to grab milkshakes and onion rings! Yum! I think that is the best way to enjoy the atmosphere.

Haven't been to Mama's, but I agree with Becka. Sci Fi is SO MUCH FUN...almost like an attraction. Go there for drinks/shakes. Don't go for a delicious meal. Actually, I had a pasta dish there that, if it wasn't so salty, would have been quite good. Had tons of garlic in it....mmmmmmm.

My son and I really enjoyed Momma Melrose and my daughter and I liked SciFi. I think that the SciFi is over priced, it is a neat place to stop for a snack though. The milk shakes are the best!

We have done MMR several times and have loved it every time - try the sangria! We just went to Sci-Fi on June 24th for the first time and I agree with the previous posts - it is overpriced for lunch but the theme is enjoyable. Definitely better for a snack than lunch.

You really can't go wrong.... if you want a burger, fries and milkshake, definitely hit SciFi. Anything else, head to MM.

Sci-Fi of course has a really cool atmosphere but the food is not that wonderful, I don't know why. They do have good milkshakes though but thoses aren't hard to make are they. Mama Melrose's is great. Inside is like a small family restaraunt in Little Italy and the food is wonderful. Prices were not too bad either.

Another vote for MM. Food is good at MM (edible at Sci-Fi).

Well, I guess I'll be the odd one here, cause we LOVE the food at Sci-Fi. As a matter of fact we ate there on our last trip June 21-27, it was the best meal of our trip!

We did eat at 4:30pm though, so that may have been the dinner menu.
I had the pork medallions in a brandy glaze served with mashed potatoes. Great!
DH had the new york strip served with maple dipped potato and seasonal veggies.
He said this steak was better(more tender) than the one he had at Le Cellier!
We both shared the spinich and artichoke dip, and like it alot too.

Sci-FI is a must do for us....without the burgers,fries and shakes.
Well, maybe just the shake.

I'm torn. I think I might try both (LOL!)

Maybe I'll do the lunch at Melrose and try the milkshake and (or) dessert at Sci-Fi.

Personally, for quality of the food for the price, I would choose Mama Melrose.

We enjoyed Mama Melrose's very much. It was very quiet, kind of dark and layed back. A much needed break from the heat.


We spent a long while in there. My DD fell asleep, in the booth, and we just let her finish her nap, while we sipped drinks. It was great.

Have fun whatever you decide. We haven't eaten at Sci-fi, but my DH picked it for our next trip.

I have eaten at both restaurants many times and both are good and definitely have their own unique atmospheres, but if I had to pick solely based on food quality it would have to be Mamas. Sci Fi is fun and we enjoy basic sandwiches or desserts there but Mamas is the place to go for a meal. The atmosphere is just like being in a little Italian restaurant in "Little Italy" in NYC and the food is very good. I love the flatbreads, the fried calamari and the eggplant. Also don't forget the wine!
