It will just be the two of us. I like the look of Mama Melrose, but am interested in the food. I had thought about doing Palio, but now it will be closed. I am concerned that it looks like there is no atmosphere at Portobellos for the $. We like to be at a table for 2, not in a long line of tables jammed together. Your thoughts?

I'm not sure I've heard of Portobello's, is it offsite? We did Mamma Melrose last year and enjoyed it both the food and the atmosphere The resturant itself is really nice inside I think. We are only two but came early for our ressie and got a booth under the twinkly lights.

One place I hated hated was L'Originale Alfredo di Roma Ristorante in Epcot !! We went there for lunch and besides being more rushed than I have ever, ever been in a resturant before they put canned mushrooms on my muchroom pizza .

I love Italian food and have a difficult time finding it in WDW. Personally I don't enjoy the food at either Mama's or Alfredo's. Doesn't do anything for me. Portabelo's over at DTD has good Italian. I would go back there. The atmosphere was nice. BF and I had lunch there on our last day and it was relaxing and delicious!

I like the atmosphere at Portobello's. It's not themed like other WDW restaurants, but it is elegant and nice. We had one of our nicest meals during our honeymoon here.

Mama Melroses is good too, especially for pizza and salad.

I'd chose based on $$ and location (depending on your plans for the day/evening).

IMO, Portobello's food is much better than Mama Melrose. Not that Mama's has bad food, just not as good as Portobello. So I'm really recommend Portobello Yacht Club if you're looking for a delicious Italian dinner. (And it's a little more out of the way since it's not in a park, so it's not usually as crowded; always nice for a romantic evening.)

I echo MadamMM comments with one exception. Some of the two tops can be fairly close.

Have you thought of eating there at lunch. It is hardly croweded for lunch and you can order off of the dinner menu at lunch. Though there are two items you can't get at lunch, unfortunately I don't recall what they were.

These are two very different restaurants. If it is great food you are looking for, definately Portobello.

I've never been to Mama Melrose but we eat at Portobello's our first night every trip. You will love it - wonderful food, great atmosphere! :thumbsup2

We have never been to Mama Melrose, but love Portobello's. We go every trip.

YES, boo-hoo, we love PALIO too, it's our favorite ITALIAN on property (actually the only one we really like) and they are remodeling it beginning next month. Rumor has it they will also have a new chef so not sure what it will reopen as...I'm sure it'll be good, whatever it will be, but I'll sure miss the "old" PALIO!

We didn't care for the food at MM at all. The atmosphere is great, but the food was pretty bad. I don't think we will be heading back there.

I hope they don't change Palio too much. It's excellent as is. Been to Portabello once and thought it was pretty good also. After reading some reviews we've always been afraid to try MM or Alfredo's. We're from RI (and very Italian). Between Federal Hill and the North End in Boston, we're very picky about our Italian food!!!

I don't think you can even compare the food at Portobello's to Mama Melrose. Its much much better at Portobello's.
