You guys helped me out with Biergarten vs Rose and Crown decision (we opted Biergarten) and now I'm wondering which is better between Mama Melrose or Hollywood and Vine at DHS? I know that neither are super fantastic, but if you HAD to choose? ;)

Thanks!:goodvibes

You're pretty much going to get replies stating that H&V is the worst ever, that was not our experience. We did it for the Fantasmic package in Aug 2007. It wasn't our best meal, but it was good and I would return.

Another way to decide is to think about whether you want a buffet or served meal. Then your choice falls out from that decision.

My assumption is that you are doing this for dinner. If its lunch and you have little ones I'd probably go for Play 'n Dine at H&V with the Playhouse Disney gang. That character meal gets really good reviews.

Mama Melrose was just okay for us (although DH and I both thought that the desserts were our favorites of our trip). The food wasn't terrible, but it didn't blow me away either. However, Mama Melrose is a very interesting, pretty place to eat, and I always prefer a entree option versus a buffet, so I guess from that standpoint, if I had to pick one, it would be Mama Melrose again. Good luck with your decision. :goodvibes

You could not pay us to eat at H&V ever again. We made the mistake of giving it two tries--should have stopped after one (I didn't think it could get worse). We've always had good food and good service at Mama Melrose!

If you're doing lunch and have little ones, Play N Dine at H&V can be very fun for them. IME, food was . . . meh. I'd say it was the worst of that particular trip, but we didn't starve either. All 9 of us managed to find enough of something to keep us happy enough. And my girls, then 1.5yo and 4.5yo, had a BALL.

If you're doing dinner (when H&V doesn't have characters), IMO it's no question - Mama Melrose!

I know it isn't a fave around here, but we've always had a very nice experience. It's not the absolute best food I've had, but it's good and we've always had GREAT service there. Case in point: last Sept's trip, my Dad couldn't decide between 2 desserts and asked the waiter's opinion, he said they were both good, my Dad pondered a bit more before deciding on one . . . well, the waiter ended up bringing him BOTH at no additional charge so he could try them both!

I've been to H&V once, and while I didn't hate it, we won't be back anytime soon. We've done MM's every trip and I don't see it disappearing from out list of stand-by's anytime soon either!

Hey, you learn faster than we do. It took us four times of really, really bad food and even worse service before we marked Hollywood and Vine off of our list.:rotfl::rotfl: We've always received good food and good service at Mama Melrose. To be fair, we booked Hollywood & Vine the first time because we didn't know any better. The second, third, and fourth time we did just because we couldn't get Mama Melrose for the Fantasmic pkg and didn't want to pay the Fantasmic price for Brown Derby. Next time we'd pay the price for Brown Derby.:rotfl:

I KNOW SOME PEOPLE DO NOT LIKE MAMA MELROSE, BUT A FEW YEARS AGO WE ATE THERE AND LOVED IT, JUST MY OPINION, BUT WE ARE BOOKED AGAIN FOR THIS UPCOMING TRIP. :rolleyes1

We did Mama's for dinner. The food was good, but the portions were VERY small. (I think I got 2 oz of spagatti w/ my chicken). We also did H&V for the character b/fast. That was EXCELLENT. The food, service & character interaction was excellent.

Excuse me! You are steering me toward a resort infested with killer alligators and killer bobcats full of drunk conventioneers.:scared1: I can't wait, by the way!:rotfl::rotfl:

Hi, Mark. The cost is right, what you get to eat is right. You do NOT get your Fanstamic ticket when you check in--but when you are seated in the restaurant. I don't know about the seating. When we were there in September, they still had the separate entrance to go into Fantasmic. My understanding is that now everyone, including the Fanstasmic Package guests, all enter at the same entrance, but you then turn in your ticket and are shown to the area reserved to the right.

We have always enjoyed Mama Melrose and had good food. I was a little disappointed in my meal last year, but I think a lot of it was due to the fact that it was our first night there--it was very hot and I was overtired--we had been up since 4:00 that morning for our flight, plus I had not slept well the couple of weeks before because my dad had died the week before our trip. So I think it was more me than the meal...because my DH and our friends enjoyed theirs immensely. I've had the Fourcheese flatbread, DH has had the Penne Alla Vodka, Oven Baked Chicken alla Parmesan, Wood-Grilled Salmon and the Pork Marsela--all very good. I really liked the Calamari, but wish they'd put less peppers in it. Let me know if you want a link to our dining reviews from this past September--they have pictures too.
