I grew up in Florida from the time I was 8 years old. I never understood why the foriegn tourists got so crazy at our malls. My brother is home from Germany for vacation. He is stationed at the major base in south germany. His wife has been going bonkers about the malls.

I guess I always thought that the malls were an international thing. I grew up spoiled in that aspect. My SIL was completely amazed with the selection of maternity clothing she even saw in just Babies R Us yesterday.I think our selection of maternity clothing is sad. To not have pretty out on the town evening maternity wear would break my heart. To have even less selection of maternity clothing would bring me to tears.

Apparently Germany is lacking in clothes stores in general. Their idea of a mall just does not compare with Orlando's idea of a mall.

I guess no more funny looks from me towards the foriegn tourists getting excited over a rack of barely worthwhile (in my eyes) sales clothing.

While I was in the Florida Mall last week I overheard a Brit talking to the clerk as he rang in some pants and shirts and he said that he would have had to pay more than double for them in UK. So I guess they like the bargains that they can get also.

Yeah apparently some cultures also like American brands which they get ripped off for over in their homeland. Kind of like how we favor european brands and get ripped off for them here. I bet they laugh at what we pay for their brands here.

After going to Orlando area for now 18 years 3 times yearly, we never went to any of the malls, seriously, why?! We were on vacation........
In Feb we went to the FL Mall to take the kids to the M & M store, frankly with the sales tax for everything in FL, we shop before we leave MA (Taxachusetts), but for people that live in UK/Oversees, everything's double for them, and sales tax and all, it's much cheaper for these travelers.....at least they seem to think so...........;)

FL has so many different sales tax brackets, with Key West being the worst
18% sales tax............
But what place doesn't have it's downside right?!:3dglasses

Happy Shopping!:wizard:

psps we do pay our share of FL taxes we own a 2nd home there (no condo):rolleyes1

I suspect our sales tax has become so high because our state has no income tax. Most of the Orlando area is about 7%-8% but food and other NEED items like medicine are not taxed. It all kind of events out really.
