My dd has a basketball tournament in Hartford CT (school is in Glastonbury). We will be there all weekend. Are there any malls or restaurants around that you would recommend? We will have a lot of downtime in between games.

Westfarms Mall. Haven't been there in years. (we used to live outside of Waterbury CT)

West Farms Mall in Farmington is nice. they have a PF Changs, California Pizza Kitchen, and Brio, they also have our one and only disney store.
There is also a Trader Joes in the area, as well as several other restaurants.

Then there is Buckland Hills Mall and Evergreen Walk in Manchester. Several restaurants there as well. Ted's Montana Grill, Johnny Rockets, and Moe's are at Evergreen Walk. Shops like Eddie Bauer, Brookstone, Potterybarn etc....

Blue Black Square in West Hartford is a place we love love love to go. You can park in the parking garage and walk around the square. Loads of shopping and food. Our favorite place to eat is The Counter (build your own burgers), there is also a Cheesecake Factory. Shopping consists of Barnes and Noble, Crate and Barrel, a tea shop, REI, Whole Foods, and other independent retailers.

The Buckland Hillls Mall in Manchester is closer to Glastonbury than the WestFarms mall in Farmington/West Hartford.

Honestly though, if I weren't from this area and was at an event in Glastonbury, I'd drive down route 2 and hit the casinos rather than going to a mall :thumbsup2

Glastonbury itself has some great shops - both chain and independent.

I rarely go to the casinos. The last time I went it was to see the Titanic exhibit, which was well worth the trip. The problem with the casinos is that the common areas are not smoke free. It isn't just annoying, it is noxious.

I don't think that the kids' parents would appreciate me taking them to the casino but thanks anyway! I've always wanted to go to one but never seem to be able to get away without kids! I thought the mall because the girls are of "shopping" age.

I grew up 15 minutes from Glastonbury, and I'd recommend Westfarms over Buckland any day. Its not much further distance wise then Buckland and I think the dining and shops are far better.

In Glastonbury itself, I know there is a Bertucci's, Chili's, 99 Bar and Grill for the chain restaurants, Cold Stone Creamery if you want a snack.

Is the rainforest Cafe still open at Westfarms? if so could be a little Disney moment too!

You could go to the new shopping development they had opened a few years ago they have a cheesecake factory and little shops as well, Hoping someone will know they name of it I just know it was near Kingswood Oxford.
