I believe there's a fairly nice mall along I-5 in Tacoma, but I don't think there's any mall that stands out as nice or large (20+ years living in Vancouver, WA).
Well I know there's a outlet mall in Centralia also Tacoma has a pretty good sized mall I believe there is a mall in Olympia but I want to think that it's not really great at all. Seattle has Northgate and Southgate which are pretty awesome I know there's Nordstroms and such at both of those malls my personal favorite is the Alderwood mall in Lynnwood they have alot of high end stores there hope this helps
I personally prefer Southcenter in South Seattle (where the I-5 and I-405 meet). I don't know of anything farther south than that, though - the Tulalip Outlets are pretty good, but a long freaking way from Olympia.
if you are going to be close to the washington/oregon border you may wish to do as many washington residents do-travel to oregon and take advantage of their zero sales tax (in washington state, depending on how much the local government(s) tacks on top of the state rate-you can be paying up to 9.5% in sales tax for your mall trip).
with allot of items it's much less expensive for me to purchase over the internet (esp. if it's a free shipping/handling deal), or i wait and go to the outlet stores when i visit family in california (the outlets near us at stateline are a joke).
