Let's get this started, with yesterday. We had some minor changes to our trip on Saturday. Instead of it just being DH and the dogs and stopping at Ocala North like in Dec, we caravanned down with my in laws. I drove the car with FIL and DH in the rig with MIL and dogs. We were helping them get set up for their winter in Floruda at the villages.

My goal was to get out by 8 am. We prefer to get to campgrounds when it is light. I thought we would be slow, so aim was 8, knowing I needed to be out by 9 in order to get to CG before dark. We leFt at 8:18. I was very pleased. We had a few stops but got to the CG around 4.

We are staying at Souther Oaks RV resort. I would recommend it. Nice people, decent internet it seems, flat grassy pads with a picnic paved area. Only issue is it is not quick on/off to 75. It is close to the villages which is what we were going for.

Got in law all setup and back to home at 9 ish. Fed and walked dogs, out some stuff away and hit the hay I was beat.

Am up early this morning as I want to keep myself accustomed to early up and early bed. On Saturday and Sunday will have to be up about 2:30.

Will be posting on lots of threads am sure. We have a few people there with trip reports. I will try to keep this thread with pics of mallory and yeti. We should arrive today we have less than a 2 hour drive. While we are here a full week before the marathon we are working remotely.

Hope everyone is having or has a safe ride down.

Have a safe second leg of your trip. Thanks for another TR and pictures. It's gonna be cold and cloudy North of Fl so we need sunshine pics.

I feel like we're all living a slow motion version of the old 70s movie "Cannonball Run"... :happytv:

Lots of folks all headed to the same destination.

With some of us we could probably write a pretty good movie script based on our true experiences to the Fort :lmao:

Good luck on the second leg and looking forward to some posting.

We are here. We left the villages or southern oaks rv resort at 10:30 and got to the fort just past noon. We had a site ready and are all set for the two weeks. I had separate ressies but all connected. Took some time to setup camp did some extra things but finally done. It's hot. Hopefully will not be so hot next weekend.

Need to walk some dogs and then shower and head to dinner. We have narcose planned. I thought we might want something nice to start the trip. We plan to cook this week the rest of the nights.

Will get some pics and post them soon.

A few pics of the dogs and the site. We are set up just need showers and dinner. I am exhausted, hope food helps.

The next few days won't be too exciting. We worked. Take a look at my office for the day.

And my two helpers. After work we went for a walk. We saw jbrostek spot but he was not there. We then had a romp in the dog park. Now making dinner and enjoying wine outside.

It looks like an episode straight out of "The Office", Kris!. :happytv:

It sure does Ed. Actually yesterday my helpers were more awake. Today was the same deal, DH worked from the dining table and I sit outside. It was cool in the morning so I had the heater going. It's a table top propane bought it just before the trip it is awesome. Used it a few times and will use it for the next few nights. It will be cold in fl . The dogs were more tired and slept a bit outside. Plus yeti gets the bark collar and that makes him sad. When I take it off he barks so he just gets to be sad.

After work went for a walk. We talked to jbrostek. He was on his way to yachtsman. If you are reading I think your best transport would be boat to MK then bus to yacht club, I think DTD is a wreck and would not do it. Could not come up with that when we were chatting:confused3. Mallory lives the attention though.

Dh then cooked on the grill.

We had a cupcake and went to bed. Plan is to wake at 5 am tomorrow. Walk and then walk dogs and work. Will hit the expo when we finish trying to start early and end before 5.

It was great to meet Everyone last night as we where getting ready to leave for dinner. Hopefully we can catch up at a better time.

Sorry it's been so long for an update. I was trying to get some other pics up but having a time of it. So we have gone around meeting people. I have talked to Ed, J, John, and Mike. The last few days have been cold. I did not work outside at all yesterday. I might get outside after this.

Went to trails end last night for dinner. Lots of runners there. I have to say it's goid meal but with it so cold we had to wait 15 min past our ressie. It was fine we finished dinner just in time to watch the fireworks. The beach was not very crowded because of the cold. Got back and went to bed.

Had a little extra sleep this morning afraid I wont sleep much tonight. Waking tomorrow at 2:30.

Doing some laundry today. Working and then cooking dinner. Yes I am freaking out about the races this weekend. Severely undertrained. At least I have done it before.

Will get some pics up soon.

Good luck runners,

Hi Guys, Good luck tomorrow and Sunday. It was great meeting the parents and finding out just what a small world we live in. Will see you soon...Mike

Kris-Great meeting you-all. Been too cold for us to venture out other than for the races. It is really cool seeing the pictures.

How'd the racing go?????

I survived. :confused3 I think...will find out tomorrow.

McFlurry John

Hi john. I understand about the cold, we have been inside except to walk dogs.

Well I am still standing. I was slow for me but based on how my training or lack of training has been I finished.

I was good first 3 miles then the knee started talking at the 10k I just felt like crap all over. At the point the knee was hurting. I finished up right. I am planning on heading to the start for tomorrow. I am hoping I can eek it out.

I did bail on my ice bath today. I was freezing with teeth chattering. It did not seem like a good idea.

We walked the dogs after showers which I am sure helped. The I got tangled with Mallory and we both hit the ground. It was not too bad but was not super good for that elbow.

Wearing compression hoping it helps with some of the soreness.

Congrats all the fort runners, john and ed!

Dang it Kris.....I've heard people say something like....If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all, doesn't mean you have to go out and try to prove it true.

Rest, rest and rest some more tonight. Best of good luck for tomorrow.

McFlurry John

Gòod luck tomorrow John and Kris. I am planning to be a spectator in the MK in the morning.

Bama Ed

I will post some pictures later. I did take some but they are on my phone and it charging inside. I am out sitting with dogs, my feet up, and beer, so pictures will wait.

I finished. My knee hurt from yesterday but I started. I was slow but I ran. I actually finished better than I thought I would. My feet started aching at mile 10. I knew at mile 20, I would definitely beat the ballon ladies, so I slowed down quite a bit, that was due to lack of training. Thankfully I have done it before so I was able to dig deep inside to keep going. Once you hit the boardwalk you only have 2 miles to at that point you just keep going to get done with. It did rain on me at mile 19ish, and the finish. Other than that the weather was good.

John, did you get your mc flurry. I checked your time and I finished just a few minutes ahead of you. Congrats but I know you have more to go. I am so glad I am done!

Kris-again, great job. I changed my plans to a 0330 start tomorrow instead of the 0300, so if you want me to wake you just let me know and I'll knock on the door. ;)

McFlurry again John

Let's get back on track. Saturday was the half. My DH ran and my running buddy, who was going for a sub 2 half and did it. We had no problems with the internal or race buses. We were up at 2:30 and it was cold out. I took throw away clothes but only tossed my sweatpants, I had tights on. DH was bummed just missed a PR. The weather was in his favor but not his stomach. I felt the knee at mile 3. I had not run in 3 weeks so at the 10k I felt pretty bad, took a walk break and gel and said I was not quitting. I managed to finish with just under an 11 min mile, normally run about 9:30s but in light of my training was content with that.

Sunday, well 2:30 again but much less cold. Took the buses again all was good, but we had a rental car and could have driven to the front, wish we had for the trip back.

Pic of MK was better. The tree was up.

I finished my knee hurt the whole time but got a good cushion in the beginning and did 12:50 minute miles.
