Maleficent for a non Sleeping Beauty Fan?

Please no spoilers for Maleficent!

I am one of the few Disney fans who doesn't enjoy Sleeping Beauty at all. I find the story dull, the music forgettable, characters one dimensional and the animation so lacking it could be Hanna Barbera.

Despite this I am thinking of going to see Maleficent, is it still worth going to, or is it just for fans of the Sleeping Beauty film?
