So who has been and which island resort would you recommend?

Claire ;)

Claire, we have stayed at Banyan Tree and absolutely loved it. A true paradise island. The villas are breathtaking, with all the mod-cons and the resort facilities are excellent. They have their own dive centre if you are divers, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. We had never dived before when we first went, so did their PADI course and it was taught brilliantly. The island's spa is expensive, but truly cannot be faulted - having a massage on the beach at dusk whilst overlooking the lagoon was one of the most peaceful and special moments I can remember. It really is a paradise island and the staff wait on you hand and foot. The beaches are immaculate as you would expect, and the sea life is incredible - we even saw baby sharks and sting rays (which you can feed). The food was good - breakfast & lunch were buffet-style but the quality was outstanding and so much of it was fresh local produce. The restaurants are quite informal compared to some of the other resorts, so this is either a + or - depending on your tastes (we, personally, loved it). A member of the hotel staff greets you at the airport personally, which is a nice touch.

We've also used our Hilton Club points at the Conrad, but it was nowhere near as nice as Banyan Tree and we probably won't return..

Let me know if you'd like any other info on either of these two islands. When are you planning to visit? :)

Frances thank you for the reply, not too sure really but it will either be next February or February 2012.

I went there on honeymoon almost 14 years ago so doubt my advice would be very up to date but I will say it's beautiful but watch out for the coral as my DH cut his legs open on it whilst we snorkelled. He still has the scars :rotfl:

clients of mine highly recommend Thudufushi and the Kurumathi blue lagoon, personally I don't think you can go far wrong, all the islands are stunning - it just depends on how many facilities you want as some are very sparse

We want somewhere with a spa or massages available, plus internet and more adult orientated, oh and maybe all inclusive would be better. So far like the look of Meeru. Then it is just the flights as would want to upgrade on such a long flight, but scheduled business is a bit too expensive.

if you can go to all inclusive Clare, I would, many clients of mine go halfboard or b&b and then get a fright when they see their bar bills

That is what I was thinking as you are a captive audience!

true, and also because the islands are totally non productive, a cheapo bottle of wine still has to be brought in from si lanka so can cost a fortune

We went in Feb 98, I was pregnant with my eldest DD, so wasn't feeling at my best to be honest
We'd already had a week in Sri Lanka and then had our last week at the Maldives based at Lohifushi :goodvibes, don't think we'd return here as I'd love to try somewhere else if we ever get the opportunity to return ;)

We went to the Maldives for our honeymoon on 4th April 1999, :lovestruc so my advice would be out of date too.;) I have to say, it is the most magical place but it totally spoils you, as no beach will ever compare! Wherever we have been since, DH land I ook at each other and say, 'It's not the Maldives though, is it?"

I was worried about being a captive audience as I am a fussy eater - I need not have worried - the food was fabulous. We were hb and didn't spend that much tbh. One of the things I really enjoyed was night fishing - I would thoroughly recommend this. Also, sitting on the beach in the middle of the night, watching a tropical storm out to see - breathtaking. You will love it.:goodvibes

I had a fleeting visit to the Maldives when I worked on the Crusie ships, I cannot remember the name of the island (or hotel) but whichever it was it was beautiful the sea is just amazing there.

My sister is going to an all inclusive resort in the Maldives in a couple of weeks, I'll let you know what she thinks of it when she gets back ;)
