i was wondering, is it possible to make a reservation even if you don't have enough points to fulfill that ressie?

for example: if you used up all your 2002 points; and if you are supposed to get 150 2003 pts in April, and you're planning on borrowing another 150pts from 2004, BUT, your ressie dated December 2003 will require 400pts total. (you will only have 300pts)
so, you were planning to rent the rest of the necessary points (100pts) from another member (transfer points into your acct in exchange for cash payment) in time for the ressie.

what happens in that case? are you still allowed to make the ressie? how far in advance can you make it? do regular rules apply?

is there a timeline, for ex. will DVC cancel the ressie if they see that there is no way you will meet the points requirement for the ressie?

DVC will not make the reservation unless you have the points available in your account. You will not be able to use the 100 possible rental points until they are physically in your account.

You will be able to book as many nights as the 300 points will get you.

First of all, you cannot even make a ressie if you will not have enough points in your account on arrival day to cover it.

If you were planning to buy/rent points from another member to complete a ressie, the points would have to be in your account before you could make the portion of the ressie that used those points. Unless the transferred points were from your home resort, you could not use them to make a ressie that requires the 11 month window.

It might be easier to rent points from another member, but have him/her make a reservation for the additional nights you cannot cover on your own.

so, am i understanding correctly that in my example above, you could book anything (within the appropriate 7mo or 11mo timeframe) that any combination of borrowing and banking could support?

but not if you expected any addition to your point balance coming from any outside source?

so 300 is the maximum# of points in the above example that a ressie could be made for?

how about waitlisting? (if there is a waitlist, that is)

There is a waitlist but you can only go on it if you have the points at the time you call and if there are no rooms available.

That is correct. Only what you have and can support at the time of the call. According to your example that would be 300 points.

I did just what you are asking. I rented 18 points from a member so I could make my Christmas resrvations. Since I had a resrvation for March, it didn't matter what the use year was because I could the transferd points first. Here is how it went. First I got all the info, like use year for the points I was renting, from the person that I was renting the points from. I then called MS and explained exactly what I wanted to do. Make sure you get that CM name!( just in case) When I knew for sure that it was all going to work, I then had the other member fax me so I had it in writing exactly what they were going to do once they got the money. After they were paid, they faxed both DVC and me the letter stating the details of the transaction. On that letter, it had both my member number and theirs. It will take a day or two for the transaction to go through. When DVC first transfered the points, they put them in the wrong use year. I had to explain to them what happened, and that is was in writing where they were to go, and they had it fixed by the end of the day.

Good Luck,
Rob
