Making reservations without a credit card

I am one of the few and far between who do not own a credit card and use only a checking account. After checking with several different sites on companies that book reservations, are there any out there that don't require a credit card for booking? All I want to do is make my reservation and then immediately mail in a check to cover the deposit. Does anyone know of a company that will let me do this? Thanks!

I bet you would need to book directly w/ the hotel unless any of the websites do the "Check by Phone" thing.

EDIT: thought of something - could you buy one of those prepaid MasterCards and use that? I've seen them in stores.

Are you staying in a Disney Resort? When I booked my room I was not required to give a credit card number. I mailed a check. This was for a room only reservavtion, don't know if that makes a difference.

Does your bank offer a MasterCard Debit Card? We use ours all the time for everything & I have never had a problem with it.

Along the lines of what the previous poster said, a pre-paid MasterCard may be a good idea. I don't know much about those.

If you are staying at a Disney Resort and making your reservations directly through Disney (either Central Reservations for "room only" or Disney Travel for a package) you can submit your deposit by check. I think you have 21 days from the time the reservation is made until they must have received the deposit.

Also, a package must be paid for a certain number of days in advance of arrival. Room only will ask for payment for the entire stay on arrival.

I'm not sure how they would handle "incidentals" (such as phone calls) without a credit card. I know that you can get the room key/resort ID without charging privledges.

I am sure if you made a deposit of money you could still have charging to your room key. We use our Check card with no problems.

I know the cruiseline wont take check over the phone, my dc wouldnt work for them at all so had to fedex a check to them for deposit...well didnt have to but i wanted it there yesterday,....=D
