making reservations with a credit card

I see that quite a lot of restaurants now require a CC .. I am new to this and have never done this ... since quite a lot of reservations are made way in advance .. from your experience .. was it easy to get your credit back on the CC... of course making sure the reservations was cancelled the day before ??

I don't know if what I've experienced is typical, but this is what's happened with my ADRs for our trip in July

For the places that require a CC guarantee (ie Ohana, Chef Mickey's Akershus, etc) we just had a $1 pending charge show up for a few days on my card, and then disappeared (probably just to make sure it was a valid card). When we cancelled or made changes to this there was no need to refund anything because they hadn't actually charged us

For places like CRT that require prepayment they charge the full amount to your CC at the time of booking. If you cancel that they credit your card and it takes the typical amount of time (I think 1-2 billing cycles) for it to get to you- ours showed up within the month no issues

yes... thanks for the info.... just wondering if you do cancel according to the rules since reservation made well in advance .. if there is a problem.. you have been helpful !...

As long as you cancel according to the rules (1 day for most places I believe) there are no issues and you won't be charged
