Hi everyone!

We are brand new DVC members as of this past summer (BCV) and are still waiting for the 11-month window to open for our 1st reservation.

I want to purchase another small resale contract at VWL (same UY and deeded same way as BCV contract so that we can combine the points at 7-months). I am working on a spreadsheet so I can show DH how we can use the points without leaving any on the table.

My question (since I don't have experience of making a DVC ressie yet) is can I stipulate, either online or via a call to MS, which contracts and point "buckets" to use for the stay?

As an example, if I have both BCV and VWL points available and combine them at 7-months for an AKL stay, can I tell them:

93 current BCV points
7 borrowed BCV
8 banked VWL
9 current VWL

Sorry if this is confusing (or maybe it just is to me)! Thanks for the help!

The system is supposed to use banked points first. Then current points and if you need them you can borrow points.

In the past MS has some how messed up and not use our banked points first so you need to keep track of you points yourself.

When booking online you will see a message advising you to use your banked points first.

The issue is when you cancel a reservation using banked or borrowed points. You really need to keep track.

Thanks Bill!!

I don't know how people keep track of multiple contracts since my head is spinning trying to figure out how we would manage adding just a small one. :upsidedow

I appreciate the information and advice!

I use Caskbill's DVC tracker. Bill the author passed away a couple of years ago but his wife Peg has been keeping it going. You download the program to your computer and keep your contract, point, and reservation info at home.

We have 4 different contracts - same use year, different resorts. What you are trying to do will be hard if you want to use only a certain amount of points from each contract - at least it has been for me.

When you book online, you have to specify which contract you want to use first. The system will then use all of the banked points, then all of the current points before moving to points from a different contract.

When I have tried to use only banked points from multiple contracts for a reservation at the 7 month mark, a supervisor had to be involved. Disney's IT system wanted to use one contract's banked points, then it's current points before moving to anther contract's banked points. The system had to be totally over-ridden to use ONLY banked points from multiple contracts. The supervisor said the computer system was programmed to use current AND banked points from each contract.

I'm sure there are other ways that points can be allocated, but it has been my experience to keep your requests with MS very simple. The simpler, the better - less chance for a catastrophe to happen :)

Thanks Bill for the link - I will have to give this a try later on since I am not on my home computer...:rolleyes1

Thank you also cvjw for the info and sound advice! I was "assuming" that I could use all banked points first (from all contracts) and then move onto current...then borrowed. It sounds like you have had success doing so with a phone call with MS which probably raises the anxiety level when you are trying to get that 7-month reservation.

Definitely something to continue to think about - whether I should add on a small to current resort or go for VWL as a second so I can get 11-month advantage in November.

BTW - first multi-quote post so I am making progress!

Thank you both for all the help!

This may have been true in the past when trying to do it by phone, but that's not how the online booking works. When you get access, try a sample booking (you don't have to go all the way through with it) and there's a little demo video that explains it very well. Now, all this applies to only one membership, so if you have two different use years, that's a different matter. But I have 9 subcontracts. I choose which ones I want to use, in which order (say, 1, then 2, then 3). The system then takes all leftover previously borrowed points (maybe from a cancelled reservation) from contract 1, then 2, then 3. Then it takes all banked points from contract 1, then 2, then 3. Then it takes current points from 1, then 2, then 3. Then I think it borrows from 1, then 2, then 3, if you've told it to borrow.
