Making reservation at the California Grill

I was calling earlier to make dining reservations for our rescheduled trip. Besides being on hold forever, I was told that in order to make a CG reservation for a party of 3+, I would have to call the restaurant directly. Did I miss the memo on this somewhere? lol. I had ressies for our March trip that we rescheduled, and I know that I did that reservation through 407-WDW-DINE. We are a party of 5, 4 adults and one child.

Feeling very frustrated because I spent so long on hold, then the rep took nearly 10 minutes to tell me that I had to call T-rex restaurant directly to make that reservation (apparently what took so long is that he was trying to get the phone number, but didn't tell me that- I would have told him nevermind!), then after I make my Chefs de France reservation I find out that I can't make a CG ressie through then. I had been on the phone nearly 40 minutes of my lunch break, and then had to put off making the rest of my reservations because I had to go back to work. I never did get the CG direct number because I was already running over on my lunch break.

Vent over! I'll try again another time. :)
 
Are you staying at a WDW resort? That might have something to do with it. When I made my reservations last year, I called WDW-dine and made all my reservations at once, including Cali Grill. We did stay at the GF.

Good luck. We are hoping to be there in July at WDW and the Cali Grill

I'm afraid you were in touch with a CM who gave you wrong information. You must book CG through Disney Dining. Just call back and try again. You will not be able to make the reservation by calling CG.


However, T-Rex is correct, you must call them directly.
 
Yes, we are staying at All Star Music. However, when thinking back on the conversation, I don't recall him actually asking me what resort I'm staying at. I know that when I've made ressies in the past, the CM asked me that.

There was something really weird about the whole conversation. I am a very patient, understanding person, and tried giving him the benefit of the doubt (maybe he was new?).

The way it went was I called around 12:20 (central), I finally got the rep at 12:40. I first asked about T-rex. My mistake. I was sitting at my work computer, watching the clock because my lunch hour is over at 1:00, and it was seriously 12:51 before he told me that I would have to call T-rex directly. He had kept saying every few seconds "still processing" or "still searching" something like that. What he was doing, unknown to me, he was waiting on his supervisor to give him the phone number to T-rex. I didn't know that until about 12:50. OK, that I understand. But if he would have told me earlier, I would have said nevermind.

Then I booked Les Chefs de France. Took a few minutes for that because he first searched for the wrong month (July instead of June). Ok, no biggie, mistakes happen.

Then I asked about California Grill (it's now 12:57, and I'm starting to sweat it, lol). He punches it in, and then after a couple minutes he said the computer says that parties of 3 or more must contact the restaurant directly to make a reservation. I asked him if this was something new, because I had made reservations for the same size party in March through the WDW-DINE #. He had no idea.

At that point I told him I needed my CdF confirmation number because I had to go back to work.

I know that when I made my ressies in January for March (spring break), I had a wonderful CM who handled everything quickly. I know that they just upgraded their system, but it still annoyed me that I allowed 40 minutes of my lunch break to book these, and only walked away with 1 reservation, and an oddball feeling about the whole exchange. I'm going to call back at another time to verify CdF and make my others.
